"Cell's Disaster!! The Destruction of His Perfect Body" is the one hundred and eighty-seventh episode of the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Z. The episode first aired in Japan on Fuji TV on 26 May 1993, receiving a ratings share of 20.1%. It was written by Katsuyuki Sumisawa and directed by Kazuhito Kikuchi.
Synopsis
Gohan fights the frantically angry Cell, and overwhelms him! Cell fires a Kienzan and a Makankōsappō, but they have no effect against Gohan. Finally giving in to fear, Cell shoots a full-power Kamehameha from up in the air! But on the ground, Gohan fires a Kamehameha, knocking it back and blowing away Cell's arms and legs!! After the frenzied Cell has regenerated his body, Gohan hits him even harder. But as he does, he induces a change in Cell's body, and Cell spits No. 18 out of his mouth!
Summary
Part A
Son Gohan and Cell stare at each other across the battlefield, both fighters surrounded by glowing yellow auras. Cell is hurt and breathing heavily, while Gohan remains calm. Nearby, the ZTV reporter asks his cameraman to hurry up with the repairs, even if just the microphone. Cell will be defeated soon and he wants to capture the moment. Gohan slowly walks over to Cell, but his poise only seems to make the Artificial Human angrier. He lunches out at Gohan, but each attack is blocked easily. He yells at Gohan for mocking him, but Gohan simply kicks him into the dirt. Cell stands up again and fires kienzan discs at Gohan, but the boy catches them! Kuririn is shocked to see his signature attack countered, but even Trunks and Vegeta are impressed. Cell tries a makankosappo next, but Gohan blocks it. Cell follows with a ki barrage, but Gohan simply ignores it.
Mister Satan announces that he will make Gohan his number one pupil at Satan Dojo, upsetting Karoni and Piroshki. The ZTV reporter tells Satan that, as far as he can tell, the "bento salesman" (Gohan) is more powerful than he is. Satan agrees that he is strong, but claims that Gohan's fighting style is sloppy and that he could be even better if he trained in his care. The cameraman turns his back to Satan dismissively.
Gohan advances on Cell again, the latter shaking in terror and disappointment. The narrator reveals that at moment, Cell regretted drawing out Gohan's full power. Cell flies up and throws a full-power kamehameha down towards Gohan: if he dodges it, the Earth will be destroyed; if he doesn't, he will be killed. Cell laughs as the rest of the fighters look on, preparing for the worst. Gohan doesn't do either of those things, instead of fires his own kamehameha which pushes back Cell's blast. Cell looks on as the giant ball of ki rebounds towards him.
Part B
Shockwaves from the two ki blasts colliding causes the earth around Gohan to crumble and for all of the spectators to be pushed back. Goku and his friends manage to hold their positions, but Mister Satan and his entourage are sent flying. The combined blast strikes Cell and then rockets into space. As Goku and his friends extricate themselves from the sand and debris caused by the shockwave, they realize that Cell is still alive. With one severed arm and both legs blasted off, Cell holds his position in the sky above Gohan. Gohan, showing emotion for the first time since transforming into Super Saiyan 2, smiles.
Goku remembers back to his and Gohan's training in the Room of Spirit and Time. The pair grappled with each other as Super Saiyans until Gohan collapsed in exhaustion. Goku congratulates Gohan on his mastery of ki control, but Gohan sneaks a punch into his father gut. Almost instinctively, Goku lashes out with a kick that sends his son flying. Goku is so terrified that he may have hurt his son that he drops out of Super Saiyan. Gohan, also back at his base form, tries to stand. As Gohan stands, he is surrounded by a yellow aura and lightning. "Are we done already?", he asks his father. Once Gohan stands, something isn't right. He's still in his base form, but his eyes have changed and he's still surrounded by the yellow aura. Goku realizes that his son's ki has come to far exceed his. Gohan screams, becoming a full Super Saiyan 2 for just a moment, before collapsing into the floor.
Piccolo shouts that Cell can still regenerate. Goku shouts to his son to finish the job, but something has come over Gohan. He won't kill him, he says, because he needs Cell to suffer more. He continues smiling. Goku urges his son to attack, but he ignores him and watches Cell regenerate his body. Cell comes in for another attack, almost blind with rage. He transforms, becoming larger and bulkier with bloodshot red eyes. He continues attacking Gohan without realizing that his new form is slower than what came before. Gohan dodges easily. The boy kicks the much larger Cell in the stomach and watches his recoil and retch. Cell's ki drops and Piccolo realizes that he is struggling to maintain his perfect form. Moments later, a still-intact Artificial Human 18 emerges from his mouth and lies unconscious on the ground. With No. 18 no longer part of Cell, what will happen to his Perfect form?
