Piroshki is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball universe by Akira Toriyama. He was one of two anime-only contestants introduced for the Cell Games and a pupil of Mister Satan, with his major contributions in an episode scripted by Sumio Uetake. Piroshki is a martial artist but lost quickly to Cell during his Cell Games.
Biography
Little is documented about Piroshki. By Age 767, he had come to train with Mister Satan and became his #2 pupil behind Karoni. He, like Mister Satan and Karoni came to have their martial arts career managed by Pizza. In this time he also became famous, won many martial arts tournaments, and even shared a helicopter with his name on it.
At the Cell Games, Piroshki made a surprise appearance with his comrade Karoni and volunteered to be second to face the Artificial Human. He attempted to charge at Cell, but could not even break through a wall of Cell's ki. He is eventually pushed back and disqualified by ring-out. Piroshki remains to watch the remainder of the Games and even participates in Mister Satan's victory parade. During the battle, Piroshki comes to understand ki-based fighting and realizes how little he knows, compared to Mister Satan who continued to delude himself even as the battle raged beyond human limits.[1]
After the Cell games, Piroshki is not seen fighting again. He is not seen to participate in the 25th Tenka'ichi Budōkai, although he remains by Satan's side and is seen occasionally in the background of scenes involving his sensei.
Name
Piroshki is one of three members of Mister Satan's entourage to get food names. In his case, he is named for a variety of Eastern European/Russian filled bun. Karoni is named for "macaroni", while Pizza's name is self-explanatory.
Production
Due to the production schedule inherent in producing a weekly anime series based on a weekly comic, the writers of Dragon Ball Z interjected anime-only material both as a means of extending the runtime and to flesh out the Dragon Ball universe. Piroshki and the rest of Mister Satan's entourage were developed initially in an episode by Sumio Uetake and used to provide additional point-of-view characters to comment on the Cell Games, as well as to underscore just how powerful Cell was compared to the greatest "regular" martial artists on Earth.
Notable Skills
Piroshki, despite being below Mister Satan's level, is likely a formidable martial artist by human standards. He is particularly gifted at strength-based attacks and wears a costume resuming an elephant. He is capable of crushing metal with his bare hands and even eating it, but his strength is nowhere near a match for Cell.
Performance
Piroshki is played by Hisao Egawa in all of his appearances to date. Egawa played many bit roles throughout the series but may be best known as the voice of Spopovitch.
Notable Appearances
- Dragon Ball Z Episode 176 - Piroshki is introduced and fights against Cell.
