Esuka is a fictional character in the Japanese animated series Dragon Ball GT. Esuka makes his debut in episode 5, which debuted on Fuji TV on 06 March 1996.

Biography

As Goku, Trunks, and Pan run from the police on Planet Imegga after having broken into Kia Palace to retrieve their spaceship, they fall through the roof of a house. It turns out to be the house of Esuka and his wife Riruka. Riruka recognizes them as the wanted criminals whose faces have been broadcast all over Imegga, and she brandishes a mop to ward them off while Esuka hides behind her. At that moment, the Earth trio's Wanted posters come on the television, while a voice warns that they are dangerous criminals and advises the residents of Imegga to contact the police if they are seen. Pan starts to explain the situation, but Trunks stops her, shaking his head. He tells Riruka and Esuka that they will be leaving now, and Goku apologizes for busting up their roof. Pan apologizes too, and as they head for the door, Goku's stomach growls. Pan chastises him, but he says he cannot help it; he is hungry. Riruka and Esuka look at each other, and then Riruka tells the "boys" to wait, withdrawing her mop. She admires their guts for breaking into Don Kia's palace; no one has given those scoundrels this much trouble in many years. Esuka agrees; they had it coming, and they don't seem like dangerous criminals to him; they are actually nice, well-behaved kids.

A notice about wanted criminals comes on the TV.

Riruka decides that she likes them, and tells them to at least eat something before they go. Esuka tries to protest, but Riruka shuts him up with her mop, and insists that they eat. As the trio eats, they tell Riruka and Esuka the story of their stolen spaceship. Pan is still angry about it, and cannot believe they got put on the wanted list for taking back what was theirs. Riruka explains that it is prohibited to have a spaceship on Imegga; otherwise everyone would just go somewhere else. Esuka adds that Don Kia sees the people on Imegga only as tools to make him rich. Pan asks if there are others like them who have had their spaceships stolen and are stuck on Imegga, and Esuka tells her that yes, he and Riruka are among them. The entire city is inhabited by people who have had everything taken from them by Don Kia. She insists that they are not discouraged, though; one day, love will make those scoundrels pay. Pan thinks they should just team up and get rid of him; Trunks chastises her for her rudeness, but Riruka explains that they would love to do just that, but Don Kia has a bodyguard named Redict; if not for him, Riruka would personally take care of Don Kia. Goku realizes that Redict must be the guy who deflected his Kamehameha in the palace.

Riruka pats Goku on the head, apologizing that she has no more food to give a growing boy; she only made enough for two. Pan realizes that Riruka gave them the last of their food, but Riruka tells her not to worry about it; they can skip a meal no problem. She tells Esuka to back her up, punching him on the shoulder; he coughs and then agrees with her. Pan grows angry, and decides it is time to leave; Trunks calls after her as she walks to the door, but she tells him she has made up her mind; she is going to let them capture her; they cannot get parts for their spaceship as long as they are wanted, anyway. They have to go to Don Kia directly. She tells them to come on, so Goku and Trunks get up to go after her. Riruka calls out to them, but Pan tells her not to worry; they are really strong.

After Redict is defeated, Pan forces Don Kia to give her the rental contracts for all of the Imeggans; Riruka and Esuka watch from their window as the trio delivers the contracts to the slum, and then they join the crows. Pan tells everyone that their spaceships will be returned, and Riruka calls out to Pan, who winks at her.[1]

Name

Esuka's name, only given in the credits, is an anagram of kaesu (返す or カエス), meaning "to return" or "to pay back". This name pun follows Planet Imegga's money theme.

Production

Nakatsuru design.[2]

Esuka was designed by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, the head character designer for Dragon Ball GT.

Performance

Esuka is voiced by Kōichi Kitamura in his only credited role for the Dragon Ball franchise. In the Funimation English dub, Esuka is voiced by Sonny Strait, best known as the voice of Kuririn.
