Peru is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Peru makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as the Kaiōshin of Universe 2.
Biography
Peru works out to build his physique, and heart his burns for the battles of Universe 2's maidens of love.[1]
Tournament of Power
Peru learns that the participation of his universe in the Tournament of Power is required when he attends the Zen Exhibition Match with Souwa and Helles, the Angel and God of Destruction of Universe 2. The Great Priest reveals that the Gods of Destruction and Kaiōshin of the participating universes will be erased along with their universe should they fail to win, while the Angels will be spared.[2]
Name
Peru's name pun is unknown, but many Kaiōshin appear to have been named after deities, and Perun (ペルーン/Perūn), the god of thunder and lightning in Slavic mythology, is a likely source for his name. The character name drops the last character of the katakana used to write "Perun" in Japanese. Note that Perun is one of many mythological deities (such as Perkūnas, Persephone, Perseus, etc.) whose name begins with "Per" and is written with ペル (peru) in Japanese.[3]
Performance
Peru is voiced by Kōzō Shioya, the voice of Majin Boo. Shioya also voiced Gurd in Dragon Ball Z, and several minor roles going back to the original Dragon Ball series. In the Funimation dub, Peru is voiced by Charlie Campbell, who voiced several minor roles in Dragon Ball Kai including North Kaiōshin.
