Vermoud is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Vermoud makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as the God of Destruction of Universe 11.

Biography

Vermoud has a strong sense of justice and never forgives evil. He gets fired up about the Pride Troopers' efforts to punish evils in Universe 11.[2][3]

Tournament of Power

Zen Exhibition Match

When the Great Priest informs the gods of each universe about the upcoming Tournament of Power, he invites them to attend the Zen Exhibition Match to sate the curiosity of the Omni-King from the future, who has never seen a martial arts tournament. Vermoud attends along with his Angel Markarita and Cae, the Kaiōshin of Universe 11. The Great Priest creates an arena in a void that appears to be located beneath the Omni-King's palace, and brings in the gods from all the other universes to observe the match. When Goku speaks casually to the Omni-Kings, calling them "Zen-chan", Cae worries that Universe 7 might have upset them.[4]

Name

Vermoud's name is likely derived from vermouth (ベルモット/berumotto), an aromatized, fortified wine flavored with various botanicals. The character name adds a diacritic sign to the last syllable of the katakana used to write "vermouth" in Japanese, altering its pronunciation from "to" to "do". Vermoud's name pun follows the theme of Gods of Destruction and Angels being named after alcoholic beverages.[5]

Performance

Vermoud is voiced by Masami Kikuchi, the voice of Monaka. In the Tournament of Power, Kikuchi also gives his voice to Dr. Rota. In the FUNimation dub, Vermoud is voiced by Markus Lloyd in his first major role for the franchise.
