On the Serpentine Road, Son Goku pushes Kaiō to go faster so that he can meet the masters of the Afterlife. Kaiō scolds him for being so direct, especially as they are to meet one of the most important people in the cosmos, the Dai Kaiō. Kaiō explains that the Dai Kaiō stands above him and his three counterparts of the South, West, and East galaxies. He is also a fan of martial arts and allows for great fighters of justice to keep their bodies in the Afterlife and train with him. In his excitement, Goku rushes off ahead and nearly pushes Kaiō off the platform, until the master remembers that he can fly! Goku rushes back to ask how to get to Dai Kaiō; Kaiō responds that you have to take an airplane. Goku rushes off again before returning to ask where he can get an airplane. Kaiō clarifies that there is an airport near King Emma. Goku rushes off a third time. He rushes back again, grabs Bubbles and Gregory and teleports them all rather than taking the long way on the Serpentine Road.

He grabs Kaiō, Bubbles, and Gregory then just teleports them all... over Kaiō's objections.

They arrive at King Emma's castle as he is busy judging the souls of the dead. They exchange pleasantries, but Goku leaves quickly to locate the airport, surprising one of the ushers who had never seen someone gifted with their own body in the Afterlife before. At the airport, spirits bound for Heaven board a plane. Goku is given an old and rundown plane for the trip to Dai Kaiō's and fly away, with Bubbles and Gregory waving them off.

He surprises Yama, an oni office worker, who is startled to see someone with a "free pass" and their own body in the Afterlife. A short time later, Goku and Kaiō arrive at Dai Kaiō's Planet. Goku remarks that it is smaller than he thought, but larger that Kaiō's Planet. As they walk to his palace, Goku spots numerous fighters training in the courtyard. Kaiō spots some former pupils from the North Galaxy and says hello; he trained them 2300 years ago.

Kaiō delivers Goku to the home of the Dai Kaiō and instructs him to be respectful. Goku is excited to meet someone so strong and Kaiō admits that even he has never seen Dai Kaiō fight. While they wait, Kaiō catches sight of the Dai Kaiō's fancy car and runs over to it. As he compliments the car's beauty and sty;e, Goku stands off to the side very confused.
Finally outside the Dai Kaiō's palace, Kaiō once again reminds Goku to be respectful. Goku is just excited to meet someone strong, but Kaiō admits that even he has never seen Dai Kaiō fight. While they wait, Kaiō discovers a classic car in Dai Kaiō's driveway and goes nuts for it. Goku stands off to the side looking confused.

Suddenly, West Kaiō calls out in shock and anger at seeing the North Kaiō. They immediately stare each other down while Paikuhan, who arrived with West Kaiō, stands stoically. West Kaiō demands to know what North Kaiō is doing there; he himself was just visiting Paikuhan, who has been training on Dai Kaiō's planet. West Kaiō claims that Paikuhan is the West Galaxy's greatest fighter. He suddenly notices Kaiō's halo and bursts out laughing at his "friend"'s misfortune. Kaiō tries to explain what happened, but Goku claims that it is his fault. Kaiō introduces Goku to the others, explaining that he is an exceptionally strong fighter from North Galaxy. West Kaiō is defensive and claims that Paikuhan is actually the stronger one. The pair argue and Kaiō suggests that they have Paikuhan and Goku fight it out. They push their protégés to fight, but before Goku and Paikuhan can do anything they hear a voice: it's Dai Kaiō!
From across the courtyard, a voice calls out in shock and anger at seeing the North Kaiō: it is West Kaiō who has come to visit the strongest fighter from his own galaxy, Paikuhan. West Kaiō suddenly notices Kaiō's halo and bursts out laughing. The North Kaiō is dead! Kaiō tries to explain what happened and Goku takes responsibility. Kaiō reveals that Goku is an exceptionally strong fighter from his own galaxy, leading to West Kaiō claiming that Paikuhan is the stronger one. The pair of Kaiō argue with both Goku and Paikuhan seemingly embarrassed to be there. Kaiō suggests that Paikuhan and Goku fight it out to see who is stronger, but just then the Dai Kaiō'd voice rings out. He is here!

Dai Kaiō appears in a blast of light and smoke. When the dust settles, Dai Kaiō reveals himself as a casually-dressed, boombox-listening, old man. Goku is speechless. He asks Paikuhan for help: something has happened in Hell. Cell has recently appeared there, found Freeza, and is wrecking the place. Paikuhan leaves immediately and Goku follows him, much to Kaiō's embarrassment that he did not ask permission. Dai Kaiō doesn't seem to mind. As they fly to Hell, Paikuhan is perturbed that Goku had come uninvited. Goku responds that he does not realize how powerful Cell and Freeza are and that he will need his help.

Summary

Part A

On the Serpentine Road, Son Goku prods Kaiō to go faster so that they can meet the martial arts masters of Afterlife. Kaiō scolds him for being impatient, but also reminds Goku that he must be on his best behavior when he meets one of the most important people in the cosmos, the Dai Kaiō. Kaiō explains that the Dai Kaiō stands above him and his counterparts of the South, West, and East galaxies. Dai Kaiō is also a supporter of martial arts and he allows great fighters of justice to keep their bodies in the Afterlife to train with him on his planet. Goku nearly bursts with excitement and races down the road, nearly knocking Kaiō off the edge in the process. (Kaiō flails for a moment on the brink of falling down to Hell, until he remembers that he can fly!) Goku rushes back to ask how to get to Dai Kaiō's planet; Kaiō responds that they need to take an airplane. Goku rushes off again, only to return to ask where they can get an airplane. Kaiō clarifies that there is an airport near King Enma, at the start of the Serpentine Road. Goku runs off yet again, but quickly returns a third time. He grabs Kaiō, Bubbles, and Gregory then just teleports them all... over Kaiō's objections.

The four arrive at King Enma, hard at work judging the souls of the dead. They exchange pleasantries, but Goku is impatient and leaves quickly to locate the airport. He surprises Yama, an oni office worker, who is startled to see someone with a "free pass" and their own body in the Afterlife. At the airport, spirits bound for Heaven board a plane with the help of two other oni, Suenaga and Shimoto. Goku and Kaiō board an old and rundown plane for the trip to Dai Kaiō's as Bubbles and Gregory wave them off.

A short time later, Goku and Kaiō arrive at Dai Kaiō's Planet. Goku is unimpressed, finding it smaller than he expected, until he sees martial artists sparring in the courtyard. Kaiō spots former pupils from the North Galaxy and says hello; he tells Goku that he last saw them 2,300 years ago.

Part B

Finally outside the Dai Kaiō's palace, Kaiō once again reminds Goku to be respectful. Goku is just excited to meet someone strong, but Kaiō admits that even he has never seen Dai Kaiō fight. While they wait, Kaiō discovers a classic car in Dai Kaiō's driveway and goes nuts for it. Goku stands off to the side looking confused.

In Hell, Goku can see that the place is wrecked. He finds Gozu and Mezu and they beg for their lives, before realizing that it is Goku and not Cell. They recognize Son Goku and reveal that they had been hiding from Cell. After Goku reveals that they are there to defeat Cell, Mezu allows himself to be recaptured. He is tormented by Cell, now joined not only be Freeza but also King Cold and the four dead members of the Ginyu Special Force: Reacoom, Butta, Jheese, and Gurd. Just as Cell tosses him into a mountain of spikes, Goku comes to his rescue.

Freeza is pleased to see that Goku is also dead and sends the Ginyu force after Goku, but he defeats them all with no effort. Freeza and Cold are shocked at Goku's new strength until Cell reminds them that he was that one that killed Goku, after all. Cell charges in to attack Goku, but he is stopped in his tracks by Paikuhan and knocked into the lake of blood. Goku marvels at his speed as Paikuhan takes out Freeza and King Cold in one hit apiece. Paikuhan begins to spin, somehow sending Cell and all of the other villains flying out of the lake of blood and into the spikes. A short time later, they are all in a prison cell in Hell. Cold claims that it is Hell to be beaten and not even be able to die.

Goku is pleased that Cell and the others have been put away. Paikuhan smiles at Goku, finally breaking a bit of his cold exterior. Goku is just excited to learn that there are so many strong fighters in the Afterlife.

Goku's New Transformation

During the development of the Afterlife Tournament arc, the writers initially intended Son Goku to become a Super Saiyan in this episode. Some or all of the episode was animated that way and the form was included in the next episode preview in the previous episode. However, they changed the art late in the process to keep Goku in his base form, albeit one with a yellow aura and spiky hair. This may have been to allow Son Goku to keep his transformation secret from his new rival, Paikuhan.
