Planet Yardrat is home to the Yardratians, a race of aliens capable of peculiar techniques such as Teleportation.
General Overview
Yardrat is a planet outside of the Galatic Patrol's jurisdiction[1] with yellow skies, tall structures,[2] and weak inhabitants who employ a number of strange techniques. The Ginyu Special Force had planned to invade Yardrat, but due to Freeza's urgent need of their services on Planet Namek, the operation was shelved.[3] The planet is about a week away from New Planet Namek[4] and ten days away from Earth[5] by way of Iriko's Galactic Patrol spaceship.
Yardrat is first mentioned in Dragon Ball chapter 334 when Son Goku reveals to Trunks that he has learned how to teleport. When Goku reveals to Vegeta that he escaped to Yardrat in one of the Ginyu Special Force's space pods, Vegeta remembers that the Special Force had been meant to conquer Yardrat, and that the planet's coordinates must have still been in the pod's systems.[6]
In Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta travels to Yardrat seeking to learn a technique capable of defeating Moro.[7]
Yardratians
"Yardratian" (ヤードラット星人; yādoratto-seijin) is a term which describes the inhabitants of Yardrat, and does not refer to a specific single race. At least two different species exist on Yardrat:[8] a tall and wrinkly species which appeared in Dragon Ball Z and a small and pudgy species which debuted in Dragon Ball Online. Both versions of Yardratians appear in Dragon Ball Super.
Though they lack strength, all Yardratians are capable of utilizing Spirit Control to perform many strange techniques. In Pybara's view, all Yardratian techniques are one through Spirit Control. Though the nature of this ability is unclear, Yardratians seem able to know information without acquiring it naturally and can sense the spirit of those far away.[7]
Learning Yardratian techniques requires the pupil to balance their body and mind, and includes activities such as stabilizing oneself on a fine point, which Son Goku is said to have done for about 150 days.[9] Vegeta trains on Yardrat for about two months,[10] magnifying his power by finding spiritual balance.[7]
Yardratian techniques which employ the use of Spirit Control include the following:
- Teleportation (瞬間移動; shunkan'idō): One of Goku's signature techniques which he learns after defeating Freeza on Planet Namek. By focusing on someone's ki, the user is able to teleport to their location in an instant. Mastery of teleportation takes a while, but it is possible to pull off the technique in a pinch having only learned its principles. Yardratians are forbidden from teleporting off-world, but it seems as though this rule may be broken during emergency situations.[5] Pybara considers teleportation to be a basic technique which he generally teaches first.[1]
- Gigantification (巨大化; kyodaika): A technique in which the user becomes larger. Pybara appears to be the only Yardratian regularly using this technique.[7]
- Multiplication (増殖; zōshoku): A technique to make multiple copies of the user which Hatsuka uses to keep others from looking down on him.[7]
- Recovery Technique (回復の術; kaifuku no jutsu): One of Pybara's special techniques which he considers to be quite advanced.[1]

The following are Yardratians who appear by name in the anime and manga of Dragon Ball Super.

Dragon Ball Online
The Yardratians in Dragon Ball Online do not have specific names and serve the specific roles of transport and banking duties. These Yardratians feature a starkly different design compared to their Dragon Ball Z counterparts, which Toyotarō incorporated into Dragon Ball Super beginning with chapter 52.
Name
Yardrat and some of its inhabitants appear to be named after various kinds of rodents. Yardrat itself a simple combination of the English words "yard" and "rat". Pybara and Hatsuka likely owe their names to capybaras and 二十日鼠 (はつかねずみ; hatsukanezumi), the Japanese terminology for house mice.
It is assumed that Jimizu gets his name from Misuji (ミスジ) to match the naming scheme of beef cuts that his fellow Universe 2 combatants during the Tournament of Power seem to follow. Coincidentally, his name (ジーミズ) can also be interpreted to follow along with the pun style of his Universe 7 counterparts, as his name shares most of the syllables from 地鼠 (じねずみ; jinezumi), the word for a kind of Japanese shrew.
The two Yardratians from North American-exclusive video game Dragon Ball Z: Sagas, Soba and Yaki, source their names from the classic Japanese dish yakisoba.
Production
Neither Yardrat nor the Yardratians appear in the original manga, but Dragon Ball Z staff prepared designs for both the planet and its inhabitants to be used in the anime. Dragon Ball Online featured its own Yardratians, notably different in appearance from their anime counterparts.
Toyotarō used Dragon Ball Super as an opportunity to reconcile these two designs by featuring both of them as cohabitants of Yardrat. His landscape designs are largely reminiscent of how Yardrat appeared during Dragon Ball Z.
