Crocodile is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball anime series. Crocodile makes his debut in episode 3, broadcast on 12 March 1986 on Fuji TV, as an interloper at Kame House.
Overview
Crocodile is a Toei-original animal-type character. The "Racial Groups" section of Daizenshuu 4 distinguishes "animal-types" (動物型; dōbutsu-gata) from normal "animals" (動物; dōbutsu). "Animal-types" are characters that "look like animals, but they speak, use weapons, express human emotions, and behave just like humans".[1]
Biography
Crocodile is sunbathing in the Turtle Hermit's lawn chair, rubbing suntan oil on his chest, while the Turtle Hermit visits Goku and Bulma on the mainland. The Pilaf Gang arrives to search Kame House for the Turtle Hermit's Dragon Ball, not realizing that he has the ball on his person.
Pilaf finds Crocodile outside and threatens him with a switchblade, promising to turn him into a handbag (ハンドバッグ handobaggu) unless he tells Pilaf where to find the Turtle Hermit. Crocodile informs him that the Turtle Hermit went to the mainland beach with Turtle that morning. Then the crocodile points to the ocean, where Turtle and Turtle Hermit are fast approaching. Crocodile is never seen again.
Performance
Crocodile is voiced by Masaharu Satō, who has given his voice to a long list of characters including Assistant Black of the Red Ribbon Army. After the death of Kōhei Miyauchi 1995, Satō would eventually go on to voice the Turtle Hermit himself in Dragon Ball Kai and Dragon Ball Super.
Crocodile is not individually credited in the Funimation dub.
