"Yamcha's Hard Struggle! The Terrifying Saibaimen" is the ninth episode of the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Kai. The episode first aired in Japan on Fuji TV on 05 April 2009, receiving a ratings share of 9.3%.
Synopsis
Vegeta and Nappa emerge from the two space pods and Nappa wipes out East City with a single blast. They then fly off towards the island where Piccolo and Gohan are in search of the Dragon Balls. Kuririn arrives first, and the three face off with Vegeta and Nappa. Piccolo learns for the first time that he is a Namekian when he is told so by Nappa! At Vegeta's order, Nappa plants seeds in the ground, and from them six ferocious Saibaimen are born!! Tenshinhan, Chiaotzu, and then Yamcha fly in to join in the battle. Vegeta suggests they have a game of one-on-one, and Tenshinhan faces off against a Saibaiman first. The Saibaiman shoots acid from his head, but he is soon defeated by Tenshinhan and because of this he is annihilated by Vegeta! Next, Yamcha fights in place of Kuririn, and the Saibaiman he defeats latches onto him and self-destructs, infuriating Kuririn!
Episode Notes
- When Yamcha dies, there is a scene from Kame House where everyone is watching the battle on the television. This is a remnant of Dragon Ball Z filler. All of the scenes with Yajirobe and the reporters in helicopters are removed in Dragon Ball Kai, so there is no explanation for why the battle is being broadcast on TV in Kai. In the manga, their only indication of what is happening on the battlefield is through the scouter that was reconfigured by Bulma, as seen in Dragon Ball Chapter 230.
