The Farmer is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama. The Farmer makes his debut in chapter 195, published in the 1988 #45 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump.
Biography
The Farmer is forking hay into the bed of a Chevrolet pickup truck as ostrich-like creatures graze nearby when a space pod crashes into an adjacent field. Wondering whether it is a meteor or a UFO, the Farmer gets in his truck and goes to investigate. When he reaches the crater, he sees that the projectile was not a meteor, and indeed, Raditz emerges from the pod and flies up to land in front of him. Raditz complains that the inhabitants of this planet are still alive, cursing Kakarrot. The Farmer points his gun at Raditz and demands that Raditz identify himself, but Raditz reads the Farmer's battle power on his scouter. The Farmer has a battle power of 5; Raditz is unimpressed with Earth's natives. The Farmer warns Raditz to stay back, but Raditz ignores him, and the Farmer shoots in a panic. Raditz catches the bullet and flicks it back at the Farmer at great speed, killing him.

• Chapter 195 establishes this as five years since the 23rd Tenka'ichi Budōkai. Chapter 204 says the Saiyans will arrive in one year. However, Chapter 209 says Goku takes six months to reach Kaiō's Planet while in Chapter 211 Kaiō says the Saiyans will arrive in 158 days, putting the exact figure at about 11 months, 8 days. In keeping with that, in Chapter 212 the Turtle Hermit and Piccolo note that the Saiyans are arriving a month sooner than expected. Daizenshuu 7 dates Raditz’s arrival as October 12th and sets Vegeta and Nappa’s arrival as November 3rd, roughly 13 months instead of 11.
