Lime is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball universe by Akira Toriyama. Son Gohan encountered Lime in Age 767, eight days before the Cell Games, as a young girl whose parents had been killed by Cell during his initial rampage. Her only appearance is in a single episode written by Katsuyuki Sumisawa.

Biography

Prior to the arrival of Cell, Lime lived with her parents in Chazke Village. In Age 767, Imperfect Cell attacked the village to gather energy for his attack against the androids. During this attack, Lime's parents were killed but she was saved by her grandfather Lao Chu, a martial arts master. After Cell departed, the village was visited by Bourbon, a criminal boss, who encouraged the survivors and other scared people from around the world to build and live in his Shelter Dome constructed just outside of town. Lime and her grandfather chose to remain in the town, to live out their remaining few days peacefully, rather than aid Bourbon and his men.

Eight days before the start of the Cell Games, Lime fell from a tree while gathering apples and landed in a fast-flowing river. She nearly drowned but was rescued by Gon Gohan who was on a shopping expedition. While being rescued, Gohan mistakenly touched her breast; Lime called him a pervert and fled into the wilderness. A short time later, Gohan happened to arrive at the shop where Lime and her grandfather worked which was being threatened by Burbon's men. Not realizing that Gohan could handle the situation easily, she cried out that "Cell is here!" in the street to lure the men away from the shop and back to the protection of their dome. After spending a few hours chopping wood, she took Gohan to see the opening of the Shelter Dome and once again called out that Cell had arrived. This time, she caused a stampede as the paying customers demanded to get inside while Burbon locked them (and many of his own men) outside. This stampede caused Burbon's hired assassin to attack, but she was protected by her grandfather and then by Gohan. After Gohan destroyed the Shelter Dome to demonstrate how weak it was, she returned to the town to live with her grandfather.[1] Although not depicted on screen, Lime was presumably reunited with her parents after all the people that Cell killed were brought back by the Dragon Balls.[2]

Name

Lime's name comes from the Japanese word for lime, ライム (raimu). Many of the characters introduced during this section of the anime are given alcohol-related names including Bourbon, Lao Chu (a type of Chinese alcohol), and Vodka. Lime is commonly used in mixed-drinks and may play off the idea of using lime with bourbon in some cocktails.

Production

Due to the production schedule inherent in producing a weekly anime series based on a weekly comic, the writers of Dragon Ball Z interjected anime-only material both as a means of extending the runtime and to flesh out the Dragon Ball universe. Lime and her related adventures were written by Katsuyuki Sumisawa to flesh out how Cell's attacks and the waiting period before the Cell Games affected society.

Notable Skills

None.

Performance

Lime is played by Yuka Koyama, a Japanese voice actress who plays smaller roles in several anime series. This is her only appearance in Dragon Ball to date.
