Geen is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Geen makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as the God of Destruction of Universe 12.

Biography

Geen carries out the minimum necessary destruction mercilessly but without discrimination. Before the Tournament of Power, he had grown bored because he was running out of things to destroy.[2]

Tournament of Power

Geen learns that his universe is exempt from the Tournament of Power when he attends the Zen Exhibition Match with Martine and Ag, the Angel and Kaiōshin of Universe 12. The Great Priest reveals that the Gods of Destruction and Kaiōshin will be erased along with their universe should they fail to win, while the Angels will be spared.[3]

Name

Geen's name is likely adapted from "gin" (ジン/jin), a juniper-flavoured spirit made by either redistilling ethanol of agricultural origin or adding approved natural flavoring to a neutral spirit of agricultural origin. The character name adds a vowel elongation to the first syllable of the katakana used to write "gin" in Japanese. This name pun follows the theme of Gods of Destruction and Angels being named after alcoholic beverages.[4]

Performance

Geen is voiced by Yūsei Oda, who has played several minor roles in Dragon Ball Kai and Dragon Ball Super. In the Tournament of Power, Oda also gives his voice to Anat, the Kaiōshin of Universe One, and Catopesra of Universe Three. In the FUNimation dub, Geen is voiced by Reagan Murdock in his first role for the Dragon Ball franchise.
