The Moginans are a group of four-armed and four-eyed aliens that live on Planet Mogina in Universe 7, which appear follow a single "leader" that possesses increased strength available through a powerful transformation. The entire race is seemingly eliminated when their planet is destroyed by Beerus.

Appearance

The Moginans appear exclusively within the second episode of the Dragon Ball Super television series as it was originally produced and broadcast in 2015.

The aliens did not appear in the original 2013 theatrical film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods that the early Dragon Ball Super story arc adapts, nor do they appear in Toyotarō's manga adaptation of this story arc within the Dragon Ball Super manga. It is currently unknown if the aliens will appear in the condensed Dragon Ball Super: Beerus cut set to debut in 2026.

The general population of aliens appear to have green skin and sport four eyes and four arms. Though their hands appear somewhat blobby in shape, opposable thumb-like extensions allow them to hold weapons in their hands. This general population appears relatively weak, at least in opposition to a much larger dinosaur. There does exist, however, a Monginan leader with yellow skin and a slightly larger stature, still with the trademark four eyes and four arms. This leader is at capable of a form of grumbling speech (which Whis appears to know and be able to fluently converse in), and sports a transformation that increases his size and overall body structure, as well as changing his skin hue to purple.

Name

モギーナ星人 used for the first time in IC Carddass

The モギーナ星人 (Mogiina-seijin) are written with Mogiina in katakana with an elongated middle syllable of gii, all followed by the standard suffix of seijin indicating that they are the "people" (or "race") belonging to that planet. This is a standard format used to describe aliens or races from a specific planet (see also: namekku-seijin for "Namekians").

The alien race/planet is not actually named within the episode itself, and the character who uses his "combat-mode" against Whis and Beerus is simply referred to as "Leader" (リーダー Riidā) in the episode's ending credits.

Select cards from a 2016 expansion to IC Carddass (namely BT3-004 and BT3-019) identify the alien race by its name of モギーナ星人 — these cards act as the first appearance for this name.

Any underlying name pun or reference is unknown.

Production

No specifically-attributed design work has been released for the Moginans, though the Dragon Ball Super episode in which they appear was directed by Masato Mikami and storyboarded by Naotoshi Shida. The Moginans do not appear to have any teases in 2015's Dragon Ball Super: Super Start Guide, despite appearing early on in the series.

For the 104th entry in his "Special Project: Toyotarō Drew It!!" monthly column on the Dragon Ball Official Site, Toyotarō provided a drawing of and comment about the transformed Moginan leader:

These are a race with four arms and legs but a pretty cool transformation! They got wiped out at the very beginning of the Dragon Ball Super anime along with their entire planet, but I never forgot that they existed in Universe 7 at one point!
