When the Great Priest informs the gods of each universe about the upcoming Tournament of Power, he invites them to attend the Zen Exhibition Match to sate the curiosity of the Omni-King from the future, who has never seen a martial arts tournament. Vermoud attends along with his Angel Markarita and Cae, the Kaiōshin of Universe 11. The Great Priest creates an arena in a void that appears to be located beneath the Omni-King's palace, and brings in the gods from all the other universes to observe the match.

Cae asks Toppo what he thinks of Goku, and Vermoud thinks that Goku is not the kind of person that Toppo would tolerate, but Toppo wishes to reserve judgment until after he has seen Goku fight to the fullest. When Goku powers up to Super Saiyan Blue during the fight, Cae immediately recognizes the pressure of divine power, and Vermoud is agape.
Vermoud learns that the participation of his universe in the Tournament of Power is required when he attends the Zen Exhibition Match with Markarita and Cae, the Angel and Kaiōshin of Universe Eleven, and Toppo, the leader of the Pride Troopers and his apprentice. After the third match concludes, the Great Priest takes a moment to explain the rules of the Tournament of Power. When he is finished, Toppo excuses himself to his gods and jumps down to the ring. Toppo apologizes for being discourteous and begs forgiveness as he removes his cloak, telling Goku that he would like to speak to him. He introduces himself as the Warrior of Freedom, leader of the Pride Troopers and protector of Universe 11, and challenges Goku to a fight. He proclaims that if Goku has evil intent, then Toppo's fist will be his ruin.
Vermoud is impressed with Toppo's sense of justice, but Markarita wonders whether it is correct to call Goku evil. Cae tells Vermoud that they should view this fight as an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of their universe and show that they will be the ones to survive the Tournament of Power, and Vermoud agrees. Cae asks the Omni-Kings to forgive their rudeness. He introduces himself and explains that he gained an admiration for Goku through his performance in the match with Bergamo, and asks the Omni-Kings to allow Toppo, who has accompanied him as his bodyguard, to fight Goku. He and Vermoud both bow. The Great Priest asks the Omni-Kings whether they will allow the fight, and they are happy to oblige.
During the fight, Toppo grabs Goku in a hold from behind, which Vermoud names the Justice Rear Naked Choke. Cae says it is Toppo's ultimate finishing hold, and Markarita says that he will not let go until all of his opponents bones are broken. She recommends that they surrender, and Whis recommends in turn that she stop saying "desu masu yo" at the end of all her sentences. ("Noble sirs" in the English dub.) The gods all watch stoically as Goku screams, and Toppo announces that it is time to end this. Vermoud cheers him on, telling him to crush Goku, but Goku breaks free from the hold. When the fight heats up, the Great Priest calls it off, telling them to save it for the Tournament of Power. Cae congratulates Toppo for a job well done, and Toppo apologizes for being unable to defeat Goku, but Vermoud assures him that his fights are always entertaining. Vermoud is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Vermoud makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as the God of Destruction of Universe 11.

Biography

Vermoud has a strong sense of justice and never forgives evil. He gets fired up about the Pride Troopers' efforts to punish evils in Universe 11.[2][3]

Zen Exhibition Match

Vermoud's character design for the Tournament of Power.[2]

When the Great Priest informs the gods of each universe about the upcoming Tournament of Power, he invites them to attend the Zen Exhibition Match to sate the curiosity of the Omni-King from the future, who has never seen a martial arts tournament. Vermoud attends along with his Angel Markarita and Cae, the Kaiōshin of Universe 11. The Great Priest creates an arena in a void that appears to be located beneath the Omni-King's palace, and brings in the gods from all the other universes to observe the match.[4]

When the second match ends, Vermoud and the other gods learn that losing universes will be erased in the Tournament of Power.[5] Bergamo of Universe 9 asks the Omni-Kings to reconsider their plans if he wins his match against Goku, and the Omni-Kings agree. Cae asks Toppo what he thinks of Goku, and Vermoud thinks that Goku is not the kind of person that Toppo would tolerate, but Toppo wishes to reserve judgment until after he has seen Goku fight to the fullest. When Goku powers up to Super Saiyan Blue during the fight, Cae immediately recognizes the pressure of divine power, and Vermoud is agape.[6]

Toppo thanks him, and Vermoud asks if he thinks he can beat Goku at the Tournament of Power. Toppo says he is not sure, but if he fails, there is always Jiren. Justice will never yield.[7]

Recruitment

After the Zen Exhibition Match, Champa calls a video meeting of all the Gods of Destruction from his location in the Universe 6 Kaiōshin Realm. He tells them that the Kaiōshin have just had a meeting, and asks the other Gods of Destruction whether they are planning anything shady for the Tournament of Power. Rumoosh scoffs, and Helles says they would never do anything so ugly. Sidra seems angry, Vermoud laughs, and Quitela says that of course they will not cheat; if the Omni-Kings were to find out, they would be erased. With Camparri interpreting, Mosco asks why they have not invited Beerus, and Helles seconds his question. Champa does not want to answer, but Quitela surmises that Beerus was not invited because Son Goku is from his universe, and the tournament was his idea.

Vados reminds everyone that they are in Goku's debt; if he had not proposed the tournament, then all of their universes would have been erased; Goku has given them a chance to survive. Sidra is unconvinced; watching Goku at the Zen Exhibition Match irritated him greatly. Rumoosh agrees; Goku's irreverence with the Omni-Kings was unforgivable. Even still, Helles finds Goku to be very attractive. Vermoud laughs again; he believes that Universe 7 is no match for the warriors of Universe 11, like the Pride Troopers and their leader Toppo.[8]

Tournament of Power

Name

Vermoud's name is likely derived from vermouth (ベルモット/berumotto), an aromatized, fortified wine flavored with various botanicals. The character name adds a diacritic sign to the last syllable of the katakana used to write "vermouth" in Japanese, altering its pronunciation from "to" to "do". Vermoud's name pun follows the theme of Gods of Destruction and Angels being named after alcoholic beverages.[9]

Performance

Vermoud is voiced by Masami Kikuchi, the voice of Monaka. In the Tournament of Power, Kikuchi also gives his voice to Dr. Rota. In the FUNimation dub, Vermoud is voiced by Markus Lloyd in his first major role for the franchise.
