Iwen is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Iwen makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as the God of Destruction of Universe One.
Biography
Iwen's body conceals intense emotions which are contrary to his cuddly appearance.[2]
Tournament of Power
Iwen learns that his universe is exempt from the Tournament of Power when he attends the Zen Exhibition Match with Awamo and Anat, the Angel and Kaiōshin of Universe One.[3]
Name
Iwen's name is likely a rearrangement of the Japanese transliteration of "wine" (ワイン/wain), an alcoholic beverage made from fermented grapes. His name pun follows the theme of Gods of Destruction and Angels being named after alcoholic beverages.[4]
Performance
Iwen is voiced by Yasuhiro Mamiya, whose credits include the King of the planet half-destroyed by Beerus in Dragon Ball Super Episode 1, along with several roles in the Tournament of Power: Sidra, Jimizu, Roselle, Napapa, and Rubalt. In the FUNimation dub, Iwen is voiced by Josh Martin, best known as the voice of Majin Boo.
