Gowasu is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Gowasu makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 53, broadcast on 31 July 2016 on Fuji TV, as the Kaiōshin of Universe 10.
Biography
Gowasu is a naïve Kaiōshin who likes tea.
Tournament of Power
Gowasu learns that the participation of his universe in the Tournament of Power is required when he attends the Zen Exhibition Match with Kusu and Rumoosh, the Angel and God of Destruction of Universe 10. The Great Priest reveals that the Gods of Destruction and Kaiōshin of the participating universes will be erased along with their universe should they fail to win, while the Angels will be spared.[1]
Name
Gowasu (ごわす) is an archaic Japanese verb meaning "to be", often used to show gratitude, respect, and humbleness toward another speaker. As Gowasu was introduced prior to the Tournament of Power and shares a similar naming scheme as Zamasu, his name does not follow suit with the other Kaiōshin names.[2]
Performance
Gowasu is voiced by Tetsuo Gotō, who had previously voiced a secretary in Dragon Ball Super Episode 15. In the FUNimation dub, Gowasu is voiced by Garrett Schenck in his first role for the Dragon Ball franchise.
