Zarbuto is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Zarbuto makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 96, broadcast on 25 June 2017 on Fuji TV, as a member of the Universe 2 team.

Biography

In the Tournament of Power, Zarbuto fails at fusing when his helmet prevents him from putting on the Potara.[1] He engages in combination attacks with Zirloin and Rabanra.[2][3]

Tournament of Power

Zarbuto's anime character design for the Tournament of Power.[3]

Zarbuto is transported by the Great Priest to the World of Void along with his teammates.[4] When the Maiden Squadron takes the stage to show their transformations, and Ribrianne calls the Universe 2 team to attend them. Zarbuto and the other remaining members of Universe 2 participate in a call-and-response ritual as the girls transform; when No. 17 interrupts their transformation with an attack, they are forced to start over from the beginning. When the transformation is complete, Zarbuto and the others cheer; they continue to participate in call-and-response as Ribrianne attacks.

Name

Zarbuto's name is likely derived from Zabuton (ザブトン), a flavorful cut of meat from the rib cage area. This name pun follows the theme of Universe 2 warriors being named after cuts of meat.[5]

Production

The Universe 2 team was supposed to have a Tsufruian.[6]

In the October 2017 issue of V-Jump, an infographic stated that the Universe 2 team included a Tsufruian.[6]

Female warriors are at the center of this universe, and they transform in battle!! There's actually a Yardratian and a Tsufruian warrior too!

This detail was never mentioned in any other source, but Zarbuto's resemblance to Doctor Myuu and Doctor Lychee prompted speculation that he could be the Tsufruian.[7]

Performance

Zarbuto is voiced by Yasuhiko Kawazu, who voiced several minor roles in Dragon Ball Z and took over the voice of Mister Popo in Dragon Ball Kai. In Dragon Ball Super, Kawazu also gives his voice to Rumoosh, the God of Destruction of Universe 10. In the FUNimation dub, Zarbuto is voiced by Mark Stoddard, the voice of Doctor Brief.
