Rabanra is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Rabanra makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 96, broadcast on 25 June 2017 on Fuji TV, as a member of the Universe 2 team.

Biography

Rabanra worships Ribrianne as a goddess. In the Tournament of Power, he fought fiercely for the survival of Universe 2 with Zarbuto and Zirloin.[1]

Tournament of Power

Rabanra's anime character design for the Tournament of Power.[1]

Rabanra is transported by the Great Priest to the World of Void along with his teammates.[2] Shortly after the tournament begins, he is seen fighting Paparoni of Universe 3. After this, he approaches Jiren of Universe 11, but Jiren is able to intimidate him with only a glare.[3]

Rabanra approaches Universe 11's Jiren at the Tournament of Power.[3]

When the Maiden Squadron takes the stage to show their transformations, and Ribrianne calls the Universe 2 team to attend them, Rabanra and the other members of Universe 2 (except for Harmira and Prum) participate in a call-and-response ritual as the maidens transform. When No. 17 interrupts their transformation with an attack, they are forced to start over from the beginning. When the transformation is complete, Rabanra and the others cheer; they continue to participate in call-and-response as Ribrianne attacks.[4]

After Caulifla and Kale of Universe 6 use the Potara to fuse, Peru realizes that they have no chance of beating someone like Jiren or Goku unless they use the Potara, so he suggests they have Rabanra and Zarbuto fuse. Helles agrees, taking his Potara earrings and throwing them down to Rabanra and Zarbuto. They catch them, and Peru orders them to put them on. Rabanra puts his on his left ear. Zarbuto tries to do the same, but he has trouble. Rabanra angrily tells him to take his helmet off, and put the earring on his right ear. Before he can manage it, they are attacked by Kafla, who knocks them flying, destroying their Potara earrings.[5]

Rabanra and Zarbuto attempt to fuse with the Potara earrings.[5]

When Goku is exhausted after defeating Kafla, Helles speaks to Ribrianne and Roasie telepathically, telling them she has a secret strategy for Universe 2. Elsewhere, No. 17 and No. 18 observe Roasie balancing atop Ribrianne's Ball of Fire technique, headed toward Goku. They are joined by Zirloin, Rabanra, and Zarbuto. Goku remarks that they are ganging up on him, but Ribrianne tells him that love is always a surprise attack. Helles tells them to put the exhausted man out of his misery, and Sanka cheers them on. Beerus objects; that is unfair! But Helles knows they must do whatever it takes to eliminate Goku.

Ribrianne and Roasie jump up on a rock and announce their impending attack. Zirloin, Rabanra, and Zarbuto pose and cheer them on with praises. No. 17 and 18 interrupt their Love Symphony attack, so Ribrianne orders the men to watch over Goku while they fight the interlopers. In unison, the men agree to take this task. After the fight begins, Goku laments his lost stamina, and Rabanra asks the others what they should do with Goku. Zarbuto asks what he means, and Zirloin says that, though Ribrianne asked them to watch over Goku, they could easily take him on themselves if they teamed up. Zarbuto worries about ignoring Ribrianne's orders, but Rabanra reminds him about their failed Potara fusion. This could be their only chance to shine and recover their honor. Zirloin thinks that Ribrianne will praise them, but Goku thinks he can take them on despite his condition. Rabanra asks the others how they should deal with him, but they are not able to figure it out before Ribrianne and Roasie are eliminated. Helles tells them that they should win no matter what, even if it's not that beautiful. Rabanra says he understands; Zirloin says she can leave it to them; Zarbuto promises her victory.[6]

Rabanra has fans back home in Universe 2.[7]

Back in Universe 2, a large crowd is gathered to watch the tournament, and people are wearing t-shirts featuring their favorite members of the team, including Rabanra. They are distressed that their goddess Ribrianne has fallen, and worry that their universe is finished. Brianne assures them that it is not over yet, and they call out to her. The Elder Kaiōshin and Whis are surprised that Universe 2 was so bold as to broadcast the tournament back home, when normally it would cause mass hysteria. Brianne tells them that even though she was defeated, the light of love has not yet been lost, and she encourages everyone to cheer on the remaining warriors all the way to the end.

Rabanra and Zarbuto attack Goku together. Rabanra tells Goku they are the last hope of Universe 2, and Zarbuto tells him they will attack him even though they might be battered and mocked for being ungainly. Zirloin drops in from above, telling Goku as he attacks that they will fight to the end for love. Goku briefly goes Super Saiyan Blue to blow them all away. Shin worries that Goku is tired from continuous fighting, but the Elder Kaiōshin believes he is doing it on purpose to challenge himself. The Turtle Hermit thinks this is dangerous in a three-on-one battle; one wrong step and Goku will be eliminated.

Rabanra, Zirloin, and Zarbuto transform in the aspect of the Maiden Squadron.[7]

Zirloin, Rabanra, and Zarbuto surround Goku, while Brianne rallies the Universe 2 people to raise their glowsticks in support. Zirloin and Rabanra can hear their voices, praying for their victory. Zarbuto realizes that they bear the weight of the hopes of everyone in their universe. Rabanra says the weight is too heavy, but it is also love. Zirloin suggests they turn that weight into power. The warriors absorb the weight of the love of their universe, and Brianne tells the men to recite the incantation of love. The men mimic the transformation ritual of the Maiden Squadron; Zirloin transforms in the aspect of Ribrianne, Rabanra as Kakunsa, and Zarbuto as Roasie. "Ran-ran. Ra-ban. Ran-raban!" "The howl of the wild! The roar of love!"

Peru is thrilled, and Helles pronounces a miracle; here, a new beauty has been born. Nos. 17 and 18 join Goku, and No. 18 says they will see their inseparable relationship with Universe 2 through to the end. Zirloin tells them to face the punishment of love. No. 17 accepts the challenge, announcing himself as the warrior who defeated Kakunsa and Roasie. Kuririn cannot believe that No. 17 has gotten into their act, but then No. 18 announces herself as the goddess who defeated the goddess Ribrianne. Goku awkwardly finishes with, "I'm Goku!"

The Universe 2 men attack, promising that love will win. No. 18 thinks they should finish this quickly, and Goku agrees. Goku faces off against Zirloin, No. 17 against Rabanra, and No. 18 against Zarbuto. When Goku finds himself in trouble against Zirloin's Ball of Fire, Nos. 17 and 18 abandon Rabanra and Zarbuto to help him out, but they follow their targets, and then take the opportunity to coordinate a Love Symphony attack against all three Universe 7 warriors.

Rabanra, Zirloin, and Zarbuto create a Pretty Black Hole.[7]

When this attack fails, the Universe 2 men regroup atop a tall rock. Zirloin compliments the Universe 7 warriors on their strength, and yes, even their love. Rabanra says they will reciprocate with all their strength and ultimate love. Zarbuto tells them to take all that they have. Together, they pray that all of their emotion will reach their opponents, and they combine their power to create a giant black heart. No. 18 tries to attack it, but the giant black heart merely absorbs her attack. Whis explains that it is the weight of their love focused into one point to make a mass of gravity. Helles recognizes it as a legendary attack that even the Maiden Squadron could not pull off, forged from love that is too heavy to bear. It binds and tortures, but those who have mastered love and can control its weight can unleash this secret technique. The warriors call out "Pretty Black Hole!" as they drop the heart on top of the Universe 7 warriors.

Goku says it is heavier than even Bulma's Gravity Room. He cannot even use teleportation to escape. Zarbuto says that it is a cage of love from which not even light can escape. Rabanra says that it is so heavy that it will eventually sink through the fighting stage, carrying the Universe 7 warriors out of bounds. Goku is impressed with the Universe 2 warriors, and he says he finally understands the power of love...but he prefers guts. Goku transforms into Super Saiyan Blue and breaks through the Pretty Black Hole with a Kamehameha, eliminating all three Universe 2 warriors.

Universe 2 bids farewell as they are erased by the Omni-Kings.[7]

The Great Priest announces that Universe 2 will be erased. Peru congratulates the men for a job well done, and back home, the inhabitants of Universe 2 wave their glowsticks. Helles tells them to accept their fate gracefully and beautifully. Brianne calls "Formation!", and as Ribrianne, she thanks everyone for cheering them on. Kakunsa tells them that even if Universe 2 is erased, their love will live on inside of them. Roasie tells them to finish it off with the usual: Love! Ribrianne tells everyone "Bye-Bye!", and they all disappear. No. 18 is amazed they were like that until the end, and thinks that after everything, they were cool.[7]

When No. 17 uses the Super Dragon Balls to restore all of the destroyed universes, Rabanra is seen with Helles, Peru, and the rest of the team back at home in Universe 2.[8]

Name

Rabanra's name is likely derived from ばら肉 (baraniku), the Japanese word for the less meaty part of the ribs section, often from cattle or hogs, which is cooked as a slab. The character name is a rearrangement of the katakana used to write baraniku with the last syllable dropped and the third syllable’s vowel dropped.[9]

Performance

Rabanra is voiced by Masakazu Morita, best known as the voice of Whis. In the Tournament of Power, Morita also gives his voice to Il, the Kaiōshin of Universe 8, and Kunsi of Universe 11's Pride Troopers. In the FUNimation dub, Rozie is voiced by Derick Snow in his first credited role for the Dragon Ball franchise.
