Summary
Part A
Kuririn celebrates his win over Bacterian with Goku. The tournament announcer praises his strength and his performance in the first match, while the tournament spectators comment on how good he is for such a little guy. Goku wonders aloud whether the Turtle Hermit was watching, but Kuririn looks around and does not see him anywhere. Goku asks Bulma where he went, but she does not know; he went off somewhere. Pu'er tells him that he was gone before the match began. Goku wonders if he went home, but Kuririn does not understand why he would do that without watching their fights. Goku sniffs, and says the old man's scent is around somewhere. He looks toward the Budō Temple's main hall where the other finalists are waiting.
At the doorway of the main hall, Lan-Fan freshens up her makeup while Jackie Chun watches. He approaches her, asking what her name was again. She tells him it is Lan-Fan, and it is nice to meet him. He introduces himself, and asks who her opponent will be, and she tells him it is that serious guy over there, pointing at Namu, who is meditating before the match. Jackie Chun approaches Namu, professing his jealousy, but Namu ignores him, concentrating on his duty to his village.

It is a dry land with dead trees under a baking sun, the air distorted by the extreme heat. Namu's little brother complains that he is thirsty. A woman tries to draw water from a well, but it is completely dry. An old man pulls a wilted carrot from the ground, telling a little girl that it is no use; they cannot raise crops in this drought. Namu tells his little brother that the rainy season will come in two more months, and that until then, he will have to buy water from the city. The woman tells Namu that the crops are already wilted, and they do not have enough money for two month's worth of water. Namu declares that he will win the Tenka'ichi Budōkai and use the prize money to buy water. He believes that the timing of the tournament shows that God is looking out for them.
Back in the present, Namu thinks to himself that he cannot lose. He tests out an attack, and then goes back to meditating, while Jackie Chun and Lan-Fan look on with wide eyes. Jackie Chun admires his determination. In the ring, the announcer tells the audience that it is time for the second match. Goku and Kuririn come up behind him, looking around for the Turtle Hermit, who is still nowhere to be found. The announcer tells them they should go to the waiting room, and Goku tells him they will.
The second match is between Jackie Chun and Yamcha! The announcer asks them to enter the ring. As Yamcha passes Goku and Kuririn, Goku wishes him luck. Then Jackie Chun compliments Kuririn on his kick against Bacterian. As he leaves, Kuririn tells Goku that he feels like he has met this guy somewhere before.

In the waiting room, Giran eats while Namu meditates. Giran tosses a bone aside that still has a good amount of meat on it, and Namu thinks this waste is sacrilege. Goku and Kuririn enter the room; Goku spots the food and gets excited, digging in. Giran begins to eat faster, and the pile of legs rapidly disappears. Kuririn wonders how they can eat before a match. Back in Namu's village, a man presents him with a bag of money pooled from everyone in the village to cover his travel expenses. Giran and Goku continue to eat, and then Goku hears Namu's stomach growling, so he takes the plate of legs over to Namu, offering it to him, but Namu declines. Giran hits Goku over the head and throws a tantrum, breaking his table, so Goku confronts him, but then Namu asks them to stop. Giran grows angry at this, but then they are all distracted by the noise of the crowd. The second match has begun!
The tournament announcer introduces Yamcha; Oolong and Pu'er wish him luck, but Bulma wonders what kind of gentleman this Jackie Chun is. Oolong reminds her that Yamcha is her boyfriend, but she says if she falls for someone else, that is her business. The announcer introduces Jackie Chun, who throws peace signs at the crowd; the spectators wonder if this old man will be able to fight. Bulma is disappointed that it's just a shabby old man, so she cheers for Yamcha. Meanwhile, Yamcha wonders why he has never heard of this man, if he is good enough to make the tournament finals. What kind of technique will he use?
The announcer calls the beginning of the match. Yamcha takes a stance, while Jackie Chun stands normally. This unnerves Yamcha, and on top of that, he cannot feel the man's ki. He must be pretty sure of himself. Yamcha remembers Chun's easy victories in the preliminaries. He attacks, and Chun dodges a punch and a kick easily. Bulma is impressed. Jackie Chun observes that Yamcha cannot seem to hit him. He compliments Yamcha on his fighting skills, but criticizes his wasted movements. Yamcha gets angry and attacks again, but he still cannot hit Chun. Goku tells Kuririn to come watch; this old guy is really good. The announcer says that Yamcha attacks with amazing speed, but Chun has no problem dodging, showing impressive footwork for an old man.

Yamcha decides he has no choice but to use his Rōga Fū-Fū Ken. Kuririn remembers that Goku told him Yamcha was really strong, and Goku confirms; he was faster than Goku could see when they fought, and incredibly strong. They realize this means the old man is a lot stronger. Oolong is worried about Yamcha, but Pu'er nervously reminds him that Yamcha still has the Rōga Fū-Fū Ken. Yamcha attacks, but Chun is unperturbed. He easily dodges and uses the wall to rebound, getting behind Yamcha. Then he flips in front of Yamcha again and, lifting a hand, says he will gift him with a refreshing breeze. He puts his hands together and then gestures at Yamcha, knocking him out of the ring. Bulma, Kuririn, and Goku are all shocked. Chun asks Yamcha if the breeze was nice and cool. The announcer declares Chun the winner by ringout. The crowd cheers, and Chun flashes the peace sign. The announcer says this match was like having a dream in broad daylight, Chun displayed such frightful strength, he won without ever touching his opponent. Yamcha cannot believe he lost to an elderly man. Goku cannot believe it either; Kuririn realizes that the old man's next opponent will be...him!
Part B
Goku observes to Kuririn that, since the old guy beat Yamcha so easily, he must be really good. Kuririn is not looking forward to fighting him in his next match. Just then, Yamcha walks their way; Goku goes to greet him, but Kuririn stops him, suggesting it might better to leave him alone right now. Yamcha turns to Jackie Chun, acknowledging that Chun beat him soundly; he was powerless against him. Chun tells him he is still young and he will get stronger as time goes on. Yamcha asks him if, by chance, he might be Muten...

The announcer interrupts Yamcha, announcing the third match between Namu and Lan-Fan, who is refreshing her makeup behind the screen. Jackie Chun runs off to greet her, so Yamcha turns to the boys, asking Goku where Muten Rōshi is. Goku does not know; he went off somewhere. Kuririn tells Yamcha that he disappeared before his match started. This just strengthens Yamcha's suspicions; he looks over at Jackie Chun, who is hovering around Lan-Fan as she puts on lipstick. She winks at him, and he is smitten. While Yamcha mulls over his suspicions, Chun approaches Namu, who is meditating, and wonders why he is so serious. He can sense a fierce resolve in him that seems out of place at a fun event like the Tenka'ichi Budōkai, so he decides to find out why, entering into Namu's mind where he sees Namu's memories of his drought-starved village. As Namu and Lan-Fan approach the ring, he thinks to himself that this explains why Namu does not seem to fit in a "gag anime". Yamcha looks at him, determined to figure out who he really is.
The announcer tells the audience that it is time for the third match. Lan-Fan winks at Namu, asking him to go easy on her, and the announcer tells them to begin. Manu takes a stance, and Lan-Fan winks at him. Namu blushes, distracted, and Lan-Fan attacks with a kick, following up with a blow to the head. She tries to kick again, and Namu dodges, jumping back to gather himself. He attacks with a chop, and Lan-Fan screams in fear. Taken aback again, Namu gently chops her on the arm, and she falls to her knees, crying. Namu asks her if she is okay, and Jackie Chun asks Namu why he made the pichi-pichi gal cry. Too late, he realizes his mistake and covers his mouth; behind him, Yamcha's suspicions grow.

Namu approaches Lan-Fan, and sensing a weak moment, Lan-Fan aims a punch at his chest, causing him to double over in pain. She laughs and aims another punch, but he catches her first. He tells her he will no longer thinking of her as a woman, and fight her as a man and a sworn enemy with all of his power. The announcer tells the audience that Namu is getting serious now! His gaze is utterly stern! Lan-Fan tries winking at him again, telling him not to be mad, but he tells her that her act is not going to work on him anymore, attacking. She dodges, and then attacks, but he easily blocks all of her blows. She decides to use her last resort, removing her shirt and then her pants. Namu is frightened, but Jackie Chun cheers before suffering a nosebleed. Posing in her lingerie, she asks Namu what he thinks. He turns bright pink, and Lan-Fan laughs, teasing him for not being able to look at her, while Chun cheers for her, encouraging her to take everything off. Yamcha takes this as confirmation of his suspicion that Chun is Muten Rōshi, and realizes he never had a chance against him.
Lan-Fan continues to advance on Namu, pushing him toward the edge of the ring as he backs away from her. Goku does not understand why he is backing away, and Kuririn tells him it is not something a child would understand. Namu finally reaches the edge of the ring, and the announcer declares that he has nowhere left to go! Goku calls out encouragement to him, and Namu reminds himself about the water and his obligation to his village. Lan-Fan thinks she has won, and she charges for her final attack. Namu gets the bright idea to close his eyes; when she attacks; he dodges easily, landing behind her to chop her on the neck. Goku cheers, and Chun is distressed. The crowd cheers while the announcer counts to ten. When he is finished, he finds Jackie Chun molesting Lan-Fan's unconscious form, and asks him to please stop. Next up, Goku's turn!
