Dr. Rota is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Dr. Rota makes their debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 96, broadcast on 25 June 2017 on Fuji TV, as a member of the Universe 6 team.
Biography
Dr. Rota seems to have a unique ability characteristic of a doctor, however, before he can show off his true ability in the Tournament of Power he is defeated by Vegeta.[1] In the manga continuity, his ability is magic spells. He is eliminated by an unknown person, appearing on the sidelines just as Champa is mocking Beerus for having lost Kuririn.[2]
Tournament of Power
Dr. Rota is transported by the Great Priest to the World of Void along with his Universe 6 teammates.[3] As Gohan and Piccolo are recovering from their earlier battle with Obni and Rubalt, Dr. Rota approaches them, acknowledging their skills. He asks them to allow him to show them why he is called Dr. Rota. Gohan and Piccolo watch with great anticipation as he announces, "My ability is—" before being shot off his rock by an unseen attacker. This attacker turned out to be Harmira, using Prum as a rebound.
Tenshinhan goes to check on Dr. Rota, and notices that he does not appear to have any wounds. He joins the fight, eventually eliminating Harmira while Goku and Vegeta corner Prum. When Prum tries to run away, Dr. Rota intercepts him, mocking him for thinking he had defeated him before. He promises to show Prum why he is called Dr. Rota. He says, "My ability is—" but Vegeta tells him to shut up and blasts them both over the edge before Dr. Rota can finish speaking. The Great Priest announces Dr. Rota's elimination, and the Omni-Kings tap him out on their GodPads.[4]
Name
Dr. Rota's name might be derived from Rotavirus (ロタウィルス/rotawirusu), a contagious virus known to cause gastroenteritis.
Performance
Dr. Rota is voiced by Masami Kikuchi, the voice of Monaka and Vermoud. In the FUNimation dub, Dr. Rota is voiced by the pseudonymous Rico Bonet.
