"The First Doomed Universe" is the thirty-fourth chapter of the Dragon Ball Super manga series written and illustrated by Toyotarō, with supervision and guidance from original Dragon Ball author Akira Toriyama. It was first published in Japan in the May 2018 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump, with a sale date of 21 March 2018.
Summary
Having been abandoned by their more individualistic Universe 7 teammates, Gohan, Kuririn, Muten Rōshi, Piccolo, and Tenshinhan hang back, sticking to their original teamwork plan. They are soon attacked by Magetta of Universe 6, who breaks up their defensive circle with a punch to the arena floor. Then Kuririn is attacked by Frost and eliminated as Gohan calls out for him. When he appears in the stands, Beerus angrily chastises him for not doing anything before being eliminated, calling him "Kurin". Kuririn corrects him. Champa mocks Beerus for having already lost a fighter, but then Dr. Rota appears in the stands next to him. Champa berates him, reminding him that his magic was supposed to prevent this, but Dr. Rota says he did not have time to cast any spells. Shin observes that many fighters from other universes have been eliminated, too.
Back in the ring, Frost battles Tenshinhan and Muten Rōshi, telling them they are next. Gohan notices this fight and rushes to help them, but he is intercepted by the Trio de Dangers. Bergamo thinks that Universe 7 is falling apart, and Basil challenges Gohan to a fight with Universe 9. Gohan fights all three at once, frustrated that they are ganging up on him. Meanwhile, Piccolo battles Hyssop, Sorrel, and Roselle, also of Universe 9, while Muten Rōshi battles Frost. Tenshinhan attacks Frost with a Kikōhō, and Muten Rōshi jumps out of its path. The gods and Kuririn watch from the stands, and even Goku and Vegeta turn around from their battles with Kunsi of Universe 11 and Mulithim of Universe 10, respectively. Tenshinhan is out of breath, and Muten Rōshi warns him not to overdo it. Kuririn asks if it worked, and Beerus says that it did not, telling him to look: Frost took the attack head-on without taking any damage.
Frost asks Tenshinhan if that was really his full power, musing to himself that Freeza was right; those three (Kuririn, Tenshinhan, and Muten Rōshi) truly are weak. Frost says it is time for them to go, attacking Tenshinhan with a punch to the gut, eliminating him. Frost then tells Muten Rōshi that he is next. In the stands, Tenshinhan apologizes for not being able to do more, and Kuririn wonders why Frost is only going after them. In the arena, Frost and Freeza confer, and Kuririn realizes what is going on. Beerus is upset, and Shin wonders if Freeza is leaking intel about their fighters. Beerus is angry about this betrayal, but Whis seems to suspect something else is going on. Kuririn shouts to Goku, telling him to take out Frost, and Goku, who is fighting Kunsi, Kettle, and Vuon, wonders what Kuririn is doing in the stands. Then he notices Tenshinhan is there too, and asks how they managed to lose already. Tenshinhan apologizes, but Kuririn reminds him that Muten Rōshi is Frost's next target. Goku assesses the situation.
Frost asks Rōshi if he is ready to take a dive, but Rōshi tells him that he has another think coming if he thinks he is just a harmless old man. Frost says bluffing will not work on him, and he is not going to waste any more time. He attacks, and Goku appears to block his punch. Frost is not happy at this intrusion, but Goku tells his old master that they can fight him together. Muten Rōshi is annoyed, reminding Goku that he wanted to face Jiren, and telling him to get on with it. Meanwhile, Frost asks Freeza about Goku, and Freeza confirms that Goku will be too much for him to handle, telling Frost to pull back for now; he will deal with the Saiyans eventually. Goku is disappointed when they take off to focus on the other universes. Freeza asks Frost if his true form is his final form, and Frost confirms that it is. Freeza tells him that he has one more transformation, suggesting that Frost fight at full strength for the remainder of the first half, at which time he will take over. Frost likes this plan.
Roselle of Universe 9 has Piccolo in a headlock, and Sorrel encourages him to drop Piccolo out of the ring. Gohan, still fighting the Trio de Dangers, uses a kiai to get them off his back and then flies up to assist Piccolo. Seeing Gohan approach, Piccolo frees himself from Roselle's arms, and Gohan kicks Roselle out of the ring. Piccolo shouts as Gohan almost falls out too, but he uses a Kamehameha to propel himself back into the ring. Then Hop uses her claws to rescue Roselle, and he thanks her. Gohan and Piccolo realize that Universe 9 is a formidable opponent. Just then, all ten Universe 9 fighters appear before them, and Bergamo challenges Gohan and Piccolo to take them all on. Gohan realizes he will need to use his full power for this, but Piccolo warns him to save that for later.
Just then, Frost flies between Gohan and Piccolo and attacks Universe 9, eliminating Oregano and frustrating Bergamo. Then Hyssop attacks Frost from behind, punching him into the ground, but Frost pushes his fist upward, grabs his hand, and swings him around until he has the momentum to throw him out of the ring, taking Roselle with him. Then Frost eliminates Cheppil and turns his attention to Sorrel. Vegeta looks up from his fight with Obni of Universe 10, surprised that Frost is going all-out so soon, and Goku looks over from where he stands with Muten Rōshi, observing that Frost will not be able to keep this up for long. Frost eliminates Sorrel and Hop, shifting his focus to Comfrey, who thinks Frost is getting too cocky. But Frost defeats Comfrey with a kiai, stunning him so much that he falls over backwards and out of the ring.
The Trio de Dangers decides to retreat, and then Freeza approaches to congratulate Frost on a job well done. Frost points out that three of them escaped, but Freeza says it does not matter; he will take over now. Before leaving, he seems to remember something: he forgot to give Frost an important piece of advice. Frost asks what it is, and Freeza grabs him by the neck, telling him that he should trust no one. Freeza then throws Frost out of the ring, eliminating him. Champa is shocked, and the Universe 7 observers realize this was part of Freeza's plan all along. Freeza thanks Frost for taking care of so many troublesome fighters while Frost seethes. Kuririn is not happy to be a pawn in this plan, but Shin is relieved that Freeza is still on their side. The Elder Kaiōshin never thought he would be grateful for Freeza's brand of treachery.
Meanwhile, Gohan and Piccolo are attacked by the Trio de Dangers. Piccolo suggests that they split up to counter the Trio's advantage. Bergamo volunteers to take Piccolo, telling Basil and Lavenda to take Gohan. As the two younger brothers leap to attack Gohan, Freeza cuts in, easily eliminating them with a two-fingered blast, observing that only a fool would take to the air so near the edge. Gohan thanks him, but Freeza tells him to save it; first, they must win and survive, and then he will take care of the Saiyans.
As Lavenda and Basil appear in the stands, Sidra asks who is left, and Sorrel tells him only Bergamo, shocking him. Piccolo has Bergamo trapped at the edge of the ring; he suggests Bergamo jump and save himself some pain, but Sidra shouts at him, telling him that if he loses, they are finished. Bergamo tries to bargain with Piccolo, suggesting they can find a way for every universe to survive, but Freeza cuts in, kicking him out of the ring and admonishing Piccolo for his hesitation in this game of survival; apparently he is the only one who understands the stakes.
Everyone realizes that Universe 9's fighters are all eliminated. The Omni-Kings observe that Universe 9 lost, and the Great Priest announces that they will therefore be eliminated. All the fighters pause and watch as the Omni-Kings raise their hands, erasing Universe 9 and leaving Mohito alone in the stands. The Great Priest tells them that all of the universe's planets, organisms, and gods have been erased, and Shin is shocked to learn that the gods have been erased too. Whis uses his staff to confirm this development, and the Great Priest tells everyone to resume fighting; the "clock" is ticking. Beerus tells his remaining fighters that they had better not lose, or he will kill them all. Goku is amused to hear this, since they will be dead either way.
