Kettle is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Kettle makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 96, broadcast on 25 June 2017 on Fuji TV, as a member of the Pride Troopers.
Biography
Kettle is a warrior who manipulates points of light. He showers opponents with a rapid-fire attack in which countless points of light rain down from the sky. He was shot off the ring by Caulifla and Kale's energy wave.[1]
Tournament of Power
Kettle is one of the ten Pride Troopers chosen to represent Universe 11 in the Tournament of Power. When the battle royal begins, Kettle is briefly seen facing Shosa of Universe 4.[2] After Universe 9 is erased, Kettle and several others including Magetta, Cabba, Casserale, Dyspo, Cocotte, and Zoire are seen standing near each other in shock, having forgotten about their own battles.[3]
After Jiren ends Kale's berserker rampage,[4] Goku tries to attack Jiren, but Toppo steps in, burying Goku under the rock with Justice Flash, and says he will assign five Pride Troopers to take care of Goku while he and Jiren preserve their stamina. Goku emerges from the rock near Kale and Caulifla, and the five assigned warriors appear to confront him: Casserale, Cocotte, Zoire, Tupper, and Kettle. Goku recognizes their uniforms and concludes that they must be from Toppo's universe; Casserale confirms this, and they introduce themselves with special fighting poses. Tupper recognizes Kale as the one who eliminated Vuon; Casserale vows to avenge Vuon; on Toppo's orders, they will eliminate all three Saiyans.

Kettle fights Caulifla while Zoire and Tupper fight Goku. Caulifla becomes frustrated that Kettle is just dodging her, but he retreats to a rock formation and tells her she should pay less attention to him and more attention to her surroundings. He has her completely surrounded by points of light, which he then begins to launch at her. When Caulifla gets hit, Kale tries to go to her, but Cocotte traps her inside a Cocotte Zone, leaving Caulifla at Kettle's mercy. Casserale thinks it is a waste to use five Pride Troopers on three opponents, but then No. 17 and No. 18 arrive, making the fight even.
Meanwhile, No. 18 has managed to eliminate Tupper; after Zoire informs Casserale, he decides they should join forces with Kettle and Cocotte to focus on what they see as the two easiest targets. Casserale tells Cocotte to make a dome over their battle to keep the others from interfering; she performs Cocotte Zone Max to create a barrier around them. No. 18 tries to force her way in, and No. 17 tries to blast it, but they are unsuccessful.
Caulifla is winded from Kettle's barrage of attacks; Casserale orders Zoire to finish her, and he attacks with Justice Spin. Kale cries from inside the smaller Cocotte Zone but she can do nothing to help. Caulifla vows to protect her protegée; she tries to attack Zoire but gets blown back. Kale becomes emotional and uses her frustration to gain control of her Super Saiyan power; she bursts through the smaller Cocotte Zone and knocks Zoire away. Casserale tells his troops not to worry; her hair only changed color; they attack together using United Justice Stream. Caulifla and Kale return fire; Kale reaches deeper for her full power, which she can now control; their beam combines, blasting the Pride Troopers out of the arena, except for Cocotte who manages to protect herself temporarily. The Omni-Kings tap out Kettle, Casserale, and Zoire on their GodPads.[5]
When Jiren is defeated at the end of the tournament, Kunsi and the other Pride Troopers look on as Jiren apologizes to them for treating them with contempt during the fight. Universe Eleven is erased, but they are revived back at home in their own universe shortly thereafter by No. 17's wish. Kettle and the others watch a shooting star cross the sky while Jiren and Toppo reflect on the lessons of the tournament.[6]
Name
Kettle's name is a katakana transliteration of the English word "kettle" (ケットル/kettoru), though ケトル/ketoru is a more common transliteration. This name pun follows the theme of the Pride Troopers being named after items found in a kitchen.[7]
Production
An interview with Dragon Ball Super producer Sakoru Takami and director Ryōta Nakamura published near the end of the anime's broadcast run gives some detail about the development of the Pride Troopers:[8]
Were Universe 11‘s Pride Troopers part of Toriyama-sensei‘s designs?
Nakamura: They weren’t in his designs, but since Jiren and co. all wore the same red and black suits, he allowed us to flesh it out like that. [...] Toriyama-sensei‘s background for Toppo included that he was a candidate for God of Destruction, so we fleshed that out a bit. We wondered what to do with Dyspo, but then once Bin Shimada was cast, he naturally took shape as a cocky character. With the concept for those three settled, we came up with the other members to match up with them.
Kettle's character design for the Tournament of Power was provided on Toei Animation's official website on 05 October 2017.[1]
Performance
Kettle is voiced by Yūsuke Numata, best known as the voice of Baby in Dragon Ball GT. Numata also voiced Ikose, Idasa, and Jewel in Dragon Ball Z, Avo in the 2008 JSAT Special, Gregory in Dragon Ball Kai and Dragon Ball Super, and other minor roles across these series. In the Tournament of Power, Numata also gives his voice to Quitela and Koitsukai.
