Zoire is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Zoire makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 96, broadcast on 25 June 2017 on Fuji TV, as a member of the Pride Troopers.

Biography

Zoire can turn into a tornado by rapidly rotating his tiny body. In the Tournament of Power, he was shot off the ring by Caulifla and Kale's energy wave.[1][2]

Tournament of Power

Zoire is one of the ten Pride Troopers chosen to represent Universe 11 in the Tournament of Power. When the battle royal begins, Zoire is briefly seen fighting near his fellow Pride Trooper Dyspo and Zirloin of Universe 2.[3] After Universe 9 is erased, Zoire and several others including Magetta, Cabba, Casserale, Dyspo, Cocotte, and Kettle are seen standing near each other in shock, having forgotten about their own battles.[4]

After Jiren ends Kale's berserker rampage,[5] Goku tries to attack Jiren, but Toppo steps in, burying Goku under the rock with Justice Flash, and says he will assign five Pride Troopers to take care of Goku while he and Jiren preserve their stamina. Goku emerges from the rock near Kale and Caulifla, and the five assigned warriors appear to confront him: Casserale, Cocotte, Kettle, Tupper, and Zoire. Goku recognizes their uniforms and concludes that they must be from Toppo's universe; Casserale confirms this, and they introduce themselves with special fighting poses. Tupper recognizes Kale as the one who eliminated Vuon; Casserale vows to avenge Vuon; on Toppo's orders, they will eliminate all three Saiyans.

Zoire and Tupper take on Goku while Kettle fights Caulifla. Tupper encases his body in rock, increasing his body weight, while he holds Goku immobile, and Zoire attacks with Justice Spin. Eventually, No. 18 attacks Tupper from behind, forcing him off Goku. Zoire then tells her to prepare for his Justice Spin, but she is tired of hearing about justice and she launches a volley of small energy attacks at him. Zoire asks Tupper to join him, so Tupper turns himself into a wheel. They call this the Double Pride Spin, but No. 18 is unimpressed; she picks up the Tupper wheel and throws him toward the edge of the arena, where his weight causes the edge to crumble, carrying him over the edge.

Zoire desperately calls after Tupper, but Goku warns him that he is next, so he uses Justice Spin to retreat. Zoire informs Casserale that Tupper is down; Casserale curses and tells his team that they should focus on the two they know they can handle: Caulifla and Kale. Casserale tells Cocotte to cover their battle with a dome to prevent the others from interfering; she creates a maximum-size Cocotte Zone, shutting out Goku, No. 17, and No. 18. Casserale says he doesn't like using such tactics, but he feels they have no choice. He tells Zoire to finish Caulifla, so Zoire launches Justice Spin. Caulifla tries and fails to counter his attack; this causes Kale to be overcome with emotion and she transforms into a normal Super Saiyan, breaching the Cocotte Zone and saving Caulifla from Zoire's attack, blowing him back.

Casserale insists that Kale's hair has only changed color and he orders his team to attack together. They attack with a United Justice Stream, and Caulifla and Kale respond with beams of their own. Casserale orders everyone to use max power, but Kale powers up into her buff, full-power form, which she can now control. Their beams combine, and Cocotte protects herself with a Cocotte Zone while Casserale, Kettle, and Zoire are blasted out of the arena. The Omni-Kings tap out Kettle, Casserale, and Zoire on their GodPads.[6]

When Jiren is defeated at the end of the tournament, Zoire and the other Pride Troopers look on as Jiren apologizes to them for treating them with contempt during the fight. Universe 11 is erased, but they are revived back at home in their own universe shortly thereafter by No. 17's wish. Zoire and the others watch a shooting star cross the sky while Jiren and Toppo reflect on the lessons of the tournament.[7]

Name

Zoire's name is likely derived from 冷蔵 (れいぞう/reizō), the Japanese word for "refrigeration". This name pun follows the theme of the Pride Troopers being named after items found in a kitchen.[8]

Production

Zoire's character design for the Tournament of Power[1]

An interview with Dragon Ball Super producer Sakoru Takami and director Ryōta Nakamura published near the end of the anime's broadcast run gives some detail about the development of the Pride Troopers:[9]

Were Universe 11‘s Pride Troopers part of Toriyama-sensei‘s designs?
Nakamura: They weren’t in his designs, but since Jiren and co. all wore the same red and black suits, he allowed us to flesh it out like that. [...] Toriyama-sensei‘s background for Toppo included that he was a candidate for God of Destruction, so we fleshed that out a bit. We wondered what to do with Dyspo, but then once Bin Shimada was cast, he naturally took shape as a cocky character. With the concept for those three settled, we came up with the other members to match up with them.

Zoire's character design for the Tournament of Power was provided on Toei Animation's official website on 05 October 2017.[1]

Performance

Zoire is voiced by Yukiko Morishita, who has voiced several minor roles for the Dragon Ball franchise, including Pizza in Dragon Ball Super. In the Funimation dub, Zoire is voiced by Aaron Dismuke, who voiced Minoshia in Dragon Ball Z Movie 13.
