Synopsis

As Shin eyes Spopovitch warily, Spopovitch and Videl enter the ring for their match, Videl waving to the crowd which is chanting her name. Videl thinks her opponent is gross; Kuririn thinks he is rather absorbed with the match. Just then, Shin returns to the contestant area, gaining the attention of Goku, Vegeta, and Kuririn. Shin goes to the back of the area to confront Piccolo, who just forfeited their match in fear.

Erasa shouts encouragement to Videl, while Shapner believes that Spopovitch will be no challenge for Videl. The Satan City police force chants for Videl, and Chi-Chi is surprised to learn Gohan's girlfriend is so popular. While Bulma watches the ring with intense concentration, Yamcha says he did not realize Videl was Gohan's girlfriend. Chi-Chi tells him that Videl is quite wealthy; she seems to see this as a favor Gohan has done for his mother. Bulma points out that she is Mister Satan's only child but Yamcha doesn't think this matters.

The Tenka'ichi Budōkai announcer tells the crowd it is time for the third match, and they cheer. Videl and Spopovitch face off. In the contestant area, Piccolo asks Shin if he is the Grand Kaiō; Shin says he is not; he is the Kaiōshin. In the ring, Videl attacks Spopovitch; the announcer observes that Videl is not giving him any time to strike back. Shin asks Piccolo to keep his title to himself; he does not want anyone else to know just yet. Piccolo thinks to himself that he knew there was a Grand Kaiō above the four cardinal Kaiō, and while he had heard rumors of a ruler over all the Kaiō, he apparently was not sure these rumors were true. Piccolo thinks it is no wonder Shin's power was in such a different dimension than their own. Goku approaches and asks Piccolo if Shin was talking smack to him, and offers to put him in his place, but Piccolo begs him not to say anything. Kaiō himself watches from his own world, thinking that he has never met Kaiōshin himself; he wonders why he would be on Earth.

Videl delivers a kick to Spopovitch, knocking him down; the announcer prepares to count, but Spopovitch gets back up quickly. He attacks Videl, but Videl still seems to have the upper hand. From the sidelines, Killa comments to Jewel that Spopovitch has gotten better at taking a beating; Jewel says that apparently his appearance is not the only thing that has changed. Killa agrees, saying he did not even recognize Spopovitch when he first saw him. Videl knocks him down again, but again, he gets back up. Yamu hovers on the sidelines, watching, while the announcer compliments both fighters. Videl grabs Spopovitch, trying to throw him out of the ring; he goes down again, but once again gets back up.

Gohan and Kuririn watch from the contestant area; Goku asks how Videl is going, and Kuririn says she fights well; Gohan says she has the upper hand in ability, but Vegeta is not impressed with this low-level fight. Videl knocks Spopovitch down yet again, and the announcer tells the audience it is clear Videl is the better fighter. Erasa, Shapner, and Chi-Chi cheer her from the crowd; Bulma says she is a perfect girlfriend for Gohan, and Chi-Chi agrees; she says she will do whatever she must to make sure they get married. Yamcha cannot believe she is really Mister Satan's daughter; Gohan asks his father, isn't she a great fighter? But as Spopovitch gets up yet again, Goku realizes something is wrong. The announcer compliments his toughness, and Videl is starting to get frustrated. Even Vegeta has taken notice now; he looks at Goku, and gets his attention; they communicate silently that there is something strange going on here.

Spopovitch charges Videl, frustrating her with his persistence, but he is still no match for her. Videl lands a good kick, and Gohan thinks the match is over; the announcer even calls it, but Spopovitch gets up again, shocking everyone. Goku tells Gohan that Videl should drop out of the match; something is not right with Spopovitch; Gohan and Kuririn question this, since Videl clearly has the upper hand in skill.

Spopovitch goes on the offensive, slapping Videl to the ground; Erasa cries out for her, and Shapner tells her not to worry; Videl is just giving him a bit of sport. Chi-Chi yells at her to keep it together; she cannot marry Gohan if she fights badly. Bulma tells Yamcha that it looks like Chi-Chi will be a nag of a mother-in-law. Videl gets back up, but then Spopovitch kicks her out of the ring; the audience panics, but she stops herself from touching the ground with her ki, surprising everyone. She flies back into the ring, and the announcer tells everyone that, thanks to this, she is still in the match. Shapner and Erasa are shocked; Gohan boasts to his father that he taught her the Bukūjutsu technique, but Goku says it might have been better if she had just fallen out of the ring; something is wrong with Spopovitch; he is too composed for the amount of damage he has taken, and Goku cannot sense his life force at all. Gohan wonders what this means, but Goku says he does not know.

Meanwhile, Satan has been informed that Videl is losing; he tells the monk that there must be a mistake; Satan beat Spopovitch in the first round of the previous tournament, and Satan knows Videl is far more skilled than he. The monk says he has improved a great deal since then, but Satan insists that it is all just for show, an entertainment tactic that Videl must have learned from him. The monk seems skeptical, but Satan insists this is true, slamming down his wine glass which falls to the floor and shatters.

Videl is struggling for breath and dodging Spopovitch's attacks; she then delivers a kick to his head that twists his head around completely. The announcer screams and informs the audience that Spopovitch's neck is broken; Gohan despairs that she has killed him. Spopovitch falls over, and the audience reacts in horror; Yamcha covers Marron's eyes. Videl falls to her knees in despair; the announcer informs the audience in morose tones that, according to the tournament rules, Videl must be disqualified for killing her opopnent, but just then, Spopovitch gets up, twisting his head back around as everyone watches in disbelief. Goku's serious expression has not changed throughout. The announcer communicates his confusion to the crowd; Videl is shaking in fear, now, as she wonders what is wrong with Spopovitch. He kicks her in the head, knocking her down and breaking her nose. Kuririn concedes that Goku is right; Spopovitch is not normal and Videl should quit. Videl takes to the air to avoid Spopovitch. Gohan shouts encouragement, complimenting her for this smart move; he tells her to stay up there and wait for her strength to recover, but Spopovitch follows her upward, to the shock of Gohan, Videl, and the announcer. Spectators wonder whether flying has just become normal now; Jewel notes that Spopovitch was not able to do this before; Killa also cannot believe it. Videl wonders how he can be flying too, and then Spopovitch attacks her with a ki blast, sending her flying toward the ground, shocking Kuririn, Gohan, and even Vegeta. She recovers herself in time to control her landing. She wonders again what kind of guy this is. Kuririn is amazed that Spopovitch could use a ki attack, even if it was weak; Vegeta interjects that he made it weak on purpose because he does not want to kill her and lose. Gohan wonders what is going on; Goku says it looks like he got power that goes beyond his natural abilities; he should not be strong enough to handle flying or ki attacks. Gohan wonders what this means; Goku says he does not know, and wonders how he got this much power.

Videl resolves that she does not care what Spopovitch's deal is; she is Videl, daughter of the man who defeated Cell, and she will not lose. She attacks again, knocking Spopovitch's head back and forth, but he seems unaffected. He attacks her again, and she falls on the ground prone. The announcer wonders whether this was the deciding blow, but she gets back to her feet; the announcer compliments her tenacious spirit. Videl scoffs at the idea that she would ever give up.
