Bergamo is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Bergamo makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as one of the chosen representatives of Universe Nine in the Zen Exhibition Match.
Biography
Also known as "Crusher Bergamo", he is the eldest brother of Trio the Dangers. Bergamo is capable of taking his opponent's techniques and turning it into his own power.[1]
Zen Exhibition Match
Bergamo represented the Universe Nine in the third fight of the Zen Exhibition Match, versus Son Goku of Universe Seven. Bergamo used Goku's power to increase his own power but he was eventually overwhelmed by Goku's Kaiō-Ken technique combined with Super Saiyan Blue.[2]
Tournament of Power
Bergamo was one of the ten fighters representing Universe Nine at the Tournament of Power. He and he and his brothers were the last members of their universe to be eliminated.[3] They were knocked out of the ring by the Final Kamehameha of Goku and Vegeta.[1] Bergamo's universe was erased by the Omni-Kings, but they were revived by Super Shenlong thanks to No. 17's wish at the conclusion of the tournament.[4]
Name
Bergamo's name is derived from bergamot (ベルガモット/berugamotto), a fragrant citrus fruit whose extracts and skin are used to scent food, perfumes, and cosmetics.
Production
Bergamo was initially described in promotional material as the middle brother of the Trio de Dangers, whose specialty was poison.[5] This appears to have been a mix-up with his brother Lavenda.
Performance
Bergamo is voiced by Eiji Takemoto, who took over the role of Kewi in Dragon Ball Kai following the passing of Kōji Totani, and had played Namu in the 2007 video game Sparking! METEOR following the passing of Kaneto Shiozawa. Takemoto also voiced Nink of Universe Ten. In the FUNimation English dub, Basil is voiced by Marcus Stimac in his first role for the Dragon Ball franchise.
