Summary

Freeza knocks Caulifla to the ground and Caulifla wonders why this guy is only going after Saiyans. Freeza explains that he has a prejudice, though it has nothing to do with Universe 6. Caulifla decides she has no choice but to transform into a Super Saiyan. Champa is thrilled to see that Caulifla can transform, but Freeza is unimpressed. Caulifla warns him not to judge her based on the Universe 7 Saiyans, and attacks. Freeza blocks her path by using telekinesis to pull up sections of the arena floor. She breaks through and lands a punch, but then Freeza decides to get serious, burying her under a pile of rubble. Just as he starts to get cocky about his win, Caulifla appears behind him with an attack resembling a Kamehameha. Goku, No. 17, Vegeta, and Toppo look around as her blast takes out a huge chunk of the arena. Freeza is unharmed, but he acknowledges that she is much stronger than the first Super Saiyan he fought; as much as he regrets it, he will show her his ultimate form!

As Freeza begins to power up, Kale looks away from her fight with Dercori to see what is going on. Cabba, who is fighting The Priccio, reminds her to focus on her own battle. Freeza transforms into Golden Freeza, and No. 17 wonders why. Goku tells him that it's his new power-up,[a] and it means he is about to get serious. Freeza attacks, and Caulifla is quickly overwhelmed. Meanwhile, Dercori mocks Kale for being too scared to attack her, but Kale is still distracted by Caulifla's fight. When she sees that Caulifla is in trouble, she loses interest in her own fight. Dercori moves in for the final blow while Kale is distracted, but Kale punches her in the gut and kicks her out of the ring, turning her attention to Freeza.

Kale distracts Freeza with a blow to the back, and he does not even know what happened, but Caulifla takes the opportunity to recover, warning Freeza not to underestimate her. Caulifla attacks in anger, and again Kale manages to throw him off enough to give Caulifla an edge. After she blasts him again, he gets angry and powers up, grabbing Caulifla's arm and telling her it is time to go. Kale attacks again, but this time Freeza blocks her; he thought she might be the person who was interfering before. Freeza tosses both of them, and Cabba is distracted from his own fight again. He quickly eliminates The Priccio before running to help the girls. Caulifla tells Kale that it is bad manners to interfere in others' fights, and Kale apologizes. Freeza tells Caulifla that Kale's attacks hurt him more than hers did, and Caulifla asks Kale what he means. Kale insists that she was just lucky.

Freeza is happy to fight all three Saiyans at once, but Caulifla insists that she is enough for him, and she attacks. He tosses her up and keeps her airborne with his finger beams. Kale begins to grow angry, and Cabba asks her if she has been hiding her true strength. She insists that she would not, but Cabba surmises that she is hiding her power because of what she owes to Caulifla; she may think she is not as good as Caulifla, but she is probably stronger. He tells Kale that now is the time to use that power. Kale tells Cabba that Caulifla took them in when they were lost, and she is the best of all of them; that is why they follow her. Cabba tells her that none of that matters now. As Caulifla falls to the ground, Cabba rushes in to fight Freeza but he is quickly dispatched. Freeza thinks the fact that they are ganging up on him shows how weak they are. Caulifla and Cabba attack together, but they are no match for Freeza, and Champa realizes that Frost is nothing compared to his Universe 7 counterpart.

The more Caulifla is beaten up, the angrier Kale grows. Finally, she transforms into a Super Saiyan, shocking Caulifla and Cabba. Freeza is unimpressed, but then Kale attacks, dominating Golden Freeza with ease. Freeza remarks that he has never seen this type of Super Saiyan before. Gohan realizes that Freeza is in trouble, telling his father to check it out; Goku is surprised that Kale is giving Freeza so much trouble. Muten Rōshi tells Goku to go help Freeza; he and Gohan will handle the Pride Troopers (Zoire, Tupper, and Kunsi).

Kale has Freeza backed up to the edge of the arena, complaining that there is yet another variety of Super Saiyan; he cannot keep them all straight. Then Goku appears between Kale and Freeza; Goku says he will handle this one, but Freeza says he did not ask for help. Goku ignores him, transforming into "perfected" Super Saiyan Blue. He catches Kale's punch, and tells her he is impressed; she is definitely not an ordinary Super Saiyan. Goku turns the tables, kicking Kale backwards, while Freeza continues to demand that Goku stay out of his fight. Kale grows angry and attacks Goku, who realizes she is getting even stronger. Then Freeza kicks Goku out of the way, angry that he disrespected him. Goku powers down to his normal form and asks Freeza if that was really necessary; that kick hurt! Freeza tells Goku that he can handle Kale; he just needs to take her seriously. Beerus and Shin are not happy to see those two squabbling. Kale powers up again, shocking Goku and Freeza; in the stands, Champa is excited at this turn of events, but Vados tells him it is actually very bad. This is her first time using this much power, and she has lost control of her own mind in the process. Everyone is in danger, even Universe 6!

Continuity

The events of the manga and the anime diverge significantly. Below are the main differences, along with the episodes where the events of this chapter occur or contrast.

  • Caulifla complains that Freeza has been exclusively targeting the (Universe 6) Saiyans. Freeza says that this is not on purpose, but mere instinct on his part that draws him to them.
  • Kale’s personality is significantly different in the manga and the anime. While in the anime she is extremely shy and worries about getting Caulifla’s attention and affection to a fault, in the manga, she is shown to be a lot more confident in herself (though still a bit shy) and has a much healthier amount of appreciation for Caulifla. She also has a lot more confidence in her strength and fighting skills, to the point where she admits that she is a lot stronger than Caulifla, but refrains from showing it so as to keep Caulifla as the strongest Saiyan in the eyes of everyone.
  • The manga has Kale tell us why exactly she looks up to Caulifla so much: she took Kale in when she was homeless.
  • Kale’s “berserker” Super Saiyan form is considerably leaner than in the anime, where she gained a lot of muscle and even increased her height when transformed.

Viz simulpub chapters and the collected volumes (including the Japanese, print and digital) are inconsistently cropped from the original, wider V-Jump pages. Viz digital editions (simulpub and tankōbon) are often the least-cropped.

Notes

  1. In the Viz translation, Goku says, "That must be his new power-up," as if he has never seen it before, or as if he cannot see it now. Since No. 17 commented on the color, and Goku is standing right next to him, clearly he can see it. There is nothing in the Japanese to suggest this phrasing: あれがパワーアップしたフリーザの姿さあいつもついに本気出したな
