Summary

As Kale faces Goku and Freeza, Vados tells Champa she hopes that Kale can keep it together. She seems to struggle with her emotions, trying to attack Goku and Freeza but overshooting. She channels her rage into another power-up, getting the attention of No. 17, Gohan, and Muten Rōshi along with everyone in the stands as her power explodes. Maji-Kayo, Nigrissi, Shantsa, Shosa, Tupper, Kunsi, Rabanra, Zirloin, and Obmi all go flying. Zirloin and one other fall out of the ring immediately while Ganos hangs on to the edge. Toppo and Vegeta are flattened. She targets them next, but Vegeta saves himself from elimination with a ki blade (like Vegetto's Spirit Sword). Toppo is rescued by Dispo. The Gods of Destruction of the exempt universes—Giin, Liquir, Arak, and Iwen—are shocked at Kale's power, and Vegeta wonders what she might be.

Meanwhile, Kale turns her attention to Shantsa and Ganos, eliminating them easily. They were the last two contestants on their team, so Universe 4 is erased. Over in the Universe 3 section of the stands, Mule comes out of his Mosco suit to tell Paparoni to get on with the plan and fuse, much to Ea's bemusement. Paparoni calls to Koitsukai, Boraleta, and Pancea, and they fuse into Agnilasa. Goku wonders aloud whether fusion is even allowed, but then Kale attacks Agnilasa, knocking him out of the ring with one punch. Universe 3 is erased.

Ribrianne looks on in horror as Kale shifts her focus Rabanra and Zarbuto; Roasie and Kakunsa wonder what is up with this girl who did not stand out at all before. Caulifla is beginning to realize that Kale was hiding her power to spare her feelings; Cabba tries to reassure her that it was not malicious but Caulifla is not upset; she is proud of her protegée, and shouts encouragement. Zarbuto and Rabanra are eliminated, and Universe 2 is erased. Then Kale faces down the last fighter from Universe 10. In the stands, Gowasu apologizes to Obni for not focusing more on strength training, but Obni tells him that he is happy to be doing the will of his gods, and that without Gowasu's lessons of the heart, he could not have accepted their fate. He attacks, and Kale eliminates him immediately. Universe 10 is erased.

Shin mourns Gowasu, and he cannot believe that four universes were erased so quickly. Champa nervously congratulates Kale on a job well done, asking for reassurance from Vados, but Vados is still worried. Kale begins to lose control, and Caulifla asks if she needs a break, but Kale pushes Caulifla aside and charges at Magetta, her own teammate. She picks him up (while Kuririn remarks on Magetta's enormous weight) and tosses him out of the ring. Cabba and Caulifla shout at Kale, reminding her that he was their teammate, but she ignores him. Pilina and Saonel try to talk some sense into her too; surely with her strength, their universe will win! But she attacks them too, blasting them out of the ring. Champa begins to realize the problem, and Vados says it is just as she feared; Kale is on a mindless rampage.

Cabba wonders if Kale might be the "Legendary Saiyan";[a] Caulifla asks if he means that demonic Saiyan that appears once every thousand years. Cabba warns her that once they awaken, they grow stronger and stronger until they self-destruct. Caulifla is alarmed; she does not want Kale to die. She tries again to get Kale to come to her senses, but Kale is not listening. Cabba flies to Kale and tries to remind her why she is fighting, but Kale knocks him aside, nearly eliminating him, but Vegeta grabs him before he goes over the edge, tossing him down and berating him for being tossed by his own ally. In the stands, Beerus wonders why Vegeta did not just let him fall. Vegeta asks Cabba what is up with Kale.

As Cabba explains his theories to Vegeta, Kale takes on the Pride Troopers. Vegeta is somewhat relieved to learn that this transformation is just pure power; that leaves her with a lot of openings. He tells Cabba to observe her fight with Universe 11; the Pride Troopers have already figured out how to read her moves. Brute strength is not worth much if she cannot land a hit, and she is already at her limit and starting to lose power. She might die first, or get eliminated. Kuririn also observes that she is at her limit, but Whis tells him that the Pride Troopers' practiced teamwork is also playing a role here. Beerus agrees; none of them are impressive alone, but their teamwork has helped them survive this long. Vegeta does not see a need to step in; they will take care of each other. He wishes Cabba good luck and walks away, leaving Cabba wondering how to save Kale. Vegeta reminds him that they are enemies and he should not look to other universes for help, then finds Toppo to resume their fight.

Caulifla yells at Cabba to stop spacing out; they need to give it all they have to save Kale. She hitches up her pants, and two Potara earrings fall out. Cabba sees them and asks her what they are. She tells him she stole them from the fat guy with Champa; they looked valuable. Cabba recognizes them as Potara. Just then, Vados notices what is going on, and Champa inspects Huwa's ears. His Potara are indeed missing, and he had not noticed. At first, Champa chastises Huwa for being careless, but then he realizes that this is their chance. He shouts at Caulifla to put on one of the earrings and put the other on Kale. Vados is worried that the Potara might count as tools and disqualify them, but Champa tells her they have no choice; they have to try something.

Caulifla does not understand, but Champa tells her to just do as he says for once. She does not know how she is supposed to get the earring on Kale while she is berserking, but Cabba tells her to hand over the earring and leave it to him. He rushes toward Kale, but Dispo knocks him out of the way, telling him that unlike his teammates, he is a force to be reckoned with; no interfering on his watch. Cabba tries to fight Dispo, but Dispo easily overpowers him and tells him to enjoy watching from the bench. Caulifla comes up behind Dispo, trapping his arms in a lock, and tells Cabba to get on with it. Just then, Tupper manages to push Kale out of the arena. Cabba jumps up to catch her, putting the Potara on her ear and tossing her back in the arena. As he falls, he tells Caulifla to put on the other earring. She still does not understand, but she puts it on, and Cabba gives her a thumbs-up as he is warped to the stands. Once the earring is on, she and Kale are pulled toward one another, and they become one person.

In the stands, Champa celebrates the successful fusion. Kuririn and Beerus complain that this should be against the rules, but the Omni-Kings think it is cool, so they allow it. The Pride Troopers wonder what to do now, while the new being pauses to appreciate her power. She says that Kale plus Caulifla makes her Kafla, and the Pride Troopers will be her first victims. She charges and knocks out Tupper in one blow. Casserale recognizes the heightened threat and orders his men to take Formation B, with Kettle taking Tupper's place, but Kafla attacks again, quickly putting all of them on the ropes. Casserale realizes that Kafla's moves are leagues above Kale's. Champa cheers on "Caulikale", but Vados corrects him; her name is Kafla, and Vados is very impressed with her. She thinks Kafla might be unrivaled on this battlefield. Champa is happy to take the credit for this victory.

Six of the Pride Troopers appear in the stands at once; Markarita is surprised, Cae is distressed, and Vermoud is angry. Facing Kale, Dispo tells Casserale that he is not sure the two of them will be enough for her. Goku tells Jiren that his friends are in trouble; he should help them, and they can pick up their fight later. Jiren does not think that is necessary, though. When his fallen comrades ask for help, he only looks at them, and then at Kafla, who is excited to face the strongest guy, and also Son Goku. She says she will take them all out at once, aiming a blast in their direction, but Gohan jumps in the path of the blast, knocking it aside. He tells his father to handle Jiren. Kafla is his opponent. Kafla asks who he is, and he tells her that he is a Saiyan, born on Earth.

Continuity

The events of the manga and the anime diverge significantly. Below are the main differences, along with the episodes where the events of this chapter occur or contrast.

  • In the anime, Agnilasa was so strong that it took the combined efforts of Goku, Vegeta, Freeza, Gohan and No. 17 to beat him. In the manga, however, he gets easily thrown off the ring by a berserk Kale just two pages after merging.
  • In the anime, instead of being thrown out of the ring by a berserk Kale, Magetta was defeated by Vegeta, whereas Saonel and Pilina were bested by Gohan and Piccolo.
  • Apparently, the Universe 6 Saiyans have almost the exact same Super Saiyan legend as their Universe 7 counterparts, they just don’t call the resulting transformation a “Super Saiyan”, calling it “the legendary Saiyan” instead. The Universe 6 version of the myth, however, specified that the legendary Saiyan would be engulfed by their own overflowing power and ultimately destroy themselves.
  • Caulifla states in this chapter that the reason she had the Potara in the first place was because she pilfered them from Huwa, thinking she could sell them for a high price (in fact, Huwa didn’t even notice his Potara were gone until Champa made him notice). In the anime, however, Champa gives both Caulifla and Kale the Potara before the tournament itself and tells them to use them as a last resort.
  • In the anime, Kale was able to listen to Caulifla’s words of encouragement and snap out of her berserk state. In the manga, however, no one was able to reason with her and Universe 6 needed to force her to fuse with Caulifla just to get her power under control.
  • In the manga, Kafla first appears already in Super Saiyan state since Caulifla and Kale fused while also in their Super Saiyan forms. In the anime, however, she first appears in her base form, despite the fact that here, too, Caulifla and Kale fused as Super Saiyans.
  • In the manga, Vados and Champa are a bit concerned as to whether using the Potara will constitute a breach of the rules, since they could be considered a tool. Still, Champa decides to use them anyway as a last resort since Kale was going berserk and throwing even members of her own team out of the ring. In the anime, however, it had already been established that the Omni-Kings weren’t particularly fussy about following the rules so long as it was “cool”, so Champa and Vados were perfectly confident in letting Caulifla and Kale use them.
