Souwa is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Souwa makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as the Angel of Universe 2.

Biography

Souwa has an intellectual personality and is not good at working out, unlike Peru.^[2]

Tournament of Power

Souwa attends the Zen Exhibition Match with Helles and Peru, the God of Destruction and Kaiōshin of Universe 2, where they learn that the participation of their universe in the Tournament of Power is required. The Great Priest reveals that the Gods of Destruction and Kaiōshin will be erased along with their universe should they fail to win, while the Angels will be spared.^[3]

Name

Souwa's name is likely derived from Sour (サワー/sawā), a mixed drink cocktail containing a base liquor, lemon or lime juice, and a sweetener. The character name drops the last syllable's vowel elongation and replaces it with the actual vowel. This name pun follows the theme of Gods of Destruction and Angels being named after alcoholic beverages.^[4]

Performance

Souwa had one line of dialogue in Dragon Ball Super Episode 102, but his voice actor was neither credited in the episode nor on the dedicated website.^[2] In the FUNimation dub, Souwa is voiced by Austin Tindle, who also voices Dyrasen of Universe 10.
