Markarita is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Markarita makes her debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as the Angel of Universe Eleven.
Biography
Markarita always gives candid advice to her Kaiōshin and God of Destruction, who are insufficiently strict. She is characterized by her use of the odd expression "desumasu".[2]
Tournament of Power
Markarita attends the Zen Exhibition Match with Vermoud and Kai, the God of Destruction and Kaiōshin of Universe Eleven, and Toppo, the leader of the Pride Troopers and Vermoud's apprentice. There they learn that the participation of their universe in the Tournament of Power is required. The Great Priest reveals that the Gods of Destruction and Kaiōshin of the participating universes will be erased along with their universe should they fail to win, while the Angels will be spared.[3]
Name
Markarita's name is likely derived from "margarita" (マルガリータ/marugariita), a cocktail consisting of tequila, triple sec, and lime or lemon juice, often served with salt or sugar on the rim of the glass. The character name removes a diacritic sign to the third syllable of the katakana used to write "margarita" in Japanese, altering its pronunciation from "ga" to "ka". This name pun follows the theme of Gods of Destruction and Angels being named after alcoholic beverages.[4]
Performance
Markarita is voiced by Ai Sasaki, who has voiced a few minor roles in Dragon Ball Super.
