Toei has revealed the covers for the Dragon Box individual disc release for the original Dragon Ball TV series.

Personally I do not know what to think of the covers yet, though I am sure they will grow on me. I do like that they are using some of the artwork from the Dragon Box and it seems that each volume will get its very own character. As with the Z releases, each of these discs contain six episodes, covering episodes 001 thru 018, and are set to be released on 04 April 2007. You can still order any of the released Z discs or pre-order any of these discs at Amazon Japan.

Episode #0068 of the podcast is available for download! And it has a special bonus video to go along with it! No, we haven’t become a video podcast… we won’t abandon you. Besides, us sitting around computers with mics isn’t exactly enthralling to watch. No, no! What we’ve done is create a bonus video explanation (or primer, if you will) to go along with our main topic for the week!

This week, we discussed a scene from DBZ episode 101 in which Vegeta (who has just been brought back to life in a package deal via Earth’s DragonBalls) flies over and sees a newly-SSJ Goku with his own eyes, right there on Namek. In case you don’t know… this never happens in the manga. We discussed the ramifications of this scene (how Vegeta should be reacting, how it would change his outlook after coming back to Earth, etc.).

In addition to the topic, we also went over some news, some releases, and hit up a few voice mails. Definitely check it out.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0068! VegettoEX, Meri, and Julian start up a new topic series, discussing inconsistencies the anime creates. For our first discussion, we take a look at DBZ episode 101 where a resurrected Vegeta flies over and sees SSJ Goku with his own eyes… which never happened in the manga. A corresponding slide-show video shows you everything! News, releases, and e-mails round out the episode.

Episode #0067 of the podcast is available for download! This week, Meri, Jeff, and I took a look at volume two of the manga to once again look from two perspectives… those that have read it before, and those being introduced to it for the first time. How did volume two stack up against volume one? Which staples of the series do we get introduced to so early on? We also answered a ton of e-mails and finally gave away that damn boxset that people seem to want… but… don’t actually really want. Bwuahaha. Definitely check it out.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0067! VegettoEX, Meri, and Jeff review and analyze volume two of the manga. Three major staples of the series (Shenlong, Kamehameha, Oozaru) show up here for the first time! We also answer tons of e-mail and finally get rid of this “remastered” DBZ season one boxset that people want but apparently don’t REALLY want…!

Episode #0066 of the podcast is available for download! This week Meri and I took a look (and listen!) back at the original dub and re-dub from FUNimation, all the way back in good ol’ 1996. Did you know that the very first two episodes of DBZ had about a dozen lines re-recorded that you can only hear in the original broadcast? Listen in with us as we discuss these changes. You also have one more week to get in those contest entries and win that… well, we can’t say “amazing” prize… or even “good” prize… but it’s that “remastered” season one set. Yeah. That thing. You know… the one we keep talking about :P. Definitely check it out.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0066! VegettoEX and Meri discuss the dub and re-dub… from 1996! Back when FUNimation was only just getting started with DBZ, approximately a dozen references to death were re-edited and re-recorded for the dub, so we listened to and compared examples from both versions. A little discussion on the review to our DVD Season One review, our indirect Digg-ing from the last week, a couple e-mails, and our contest round out the episode!

Episode #0065 of the podcast is available for download! We finally got around to it, this week. As we’ve called it, “The Big Orange Review” is our in-depth analysis of FUNimation’s lies and deceit to fandom with their so-called “Remastered” DBZ Season One DVD boxset. If there’s anything we didn’t cover on the show, hopefully Corey’s review website will go into that further detail you were looking for (including all the images you can eat). Definitely check it out.

And because we’re nice (and because Tanooki Kuribo continues to steal things off the back of trucks), we’re giving away this damn set. We don’t want it. Maybe you do. Let’s make it perfectly clear that FUNimation has nothing to do with this contest… it didn’t come from them for us to give to you, and honestly, we don’t want you to spend your money on this garbage. Listen to the episode for full details. All it takes is a simple e-mail!

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0065! VegettoEX, Meri, Julian, and Corey discuss and review FUNimation’s remastered DBZ season one DVD boxset. The general conclusion is that it’s an insult to fandom, but listen in for our full thoughts on FUNimation’s lies. And hey, if you still want the set, we’re giving one away with absolutely no catch. A bit of news and your e-mails round out the episode.

Episode #0064 of the podcast is available for download! We had a couple audio issues with the new setup this week, but no biggie… it’s the content that counts. This week, we took a look at Norio Wakamoto’s performance of Cell in the TV series, and analyzed how his acting adapted with each transformation (in terms of general sound, grammar, noises, etc.) Super fun stuff, with lots of voice samples! Definitely check it out.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0064! VegettoEX, Meri, and Julian discuss Norio Wakamoto’s performance of Cell in the TV series, and how the voice was adapted with each subsequent transformation. Some thoughts on today’s ridiculous advertising, this week’s news, and a few e-mails round out the episode.

About a month ago we caught wind of Toei’s upcoming release of the Dragon Box individual discs for the first TV series, and since then not much has come out about it. Toei has now (finally!) opened a site for the new individual discs, similar to its Z counterpart, listing the first six volumes of the release.

As already announced, the initial release will begin on 04 April 2007. We now also know that these releases will follow suit with the Z discs and be released three at a time. The next release will be on 02 May 2007, making Vol. 4, 5, and 6 available. Unfortunately, we do not have any cover art yet.
