Kanzenshuu – The Podcast

Your one and only Dragon Ball podcast!

Our “weekly” podcast, then named Daizenshuu EX – The Podcast, began in November 2005 as a new way to reach out to our audience, extend that audience, and simply have fun with the franchise we love so much. Though we updated the name to Kanzenshuu – The Podcast in April 2012 with the launch of this website, we remain the best, most authoritative, entertaining, and only Dragon Ball podcast you will ever need!

Each episode, the Kanzenshuu staff discuss the latest news in the world of Dragon Ball from across the globe before heading into a core topic — whether it be an in-depth discussion of the way in which the story and franchise was produced, theories for in-universe scenarios and “What If?” scenes, interviews with those actually involved with the franchise, thorough reviews of video games or home video releases, we have you covered! We wrap things up with the month’s upcoming releases, questions from the listeners, and much more! We regularly have contests, broadcast live (watch our Twitter and Facebook!), and have a great time sharing our love of the Dragon Ball franchise with you all each and every week.

Podcast Episode #0227 — 28 July 2010

While we just released a regular podcast episode, we have a wacky schedule coming to a close over the next few weeks and wanted to make sure we crammed out a good amount of content for you all. In this special episode, our buddy Marc from The Fanboy Review and I take a look back over the last year and gauge where North America stands with regard to home releases of the DragonBall franchise. Last Otakon brought us an announcement of DBZ Dragon Box sets… so should we expect any spectacular announcements this year? Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.

Our buddy Hujio joins us mid-show this week to do a little preview of the panel we will be presenting at Otakon 2010 in just a couple weeks, “10 Things You Didn’t Know About DragonBall“. We only have an hour at the convention, but we have unlimited time on our own show…! Listen in for an explanation all about a guy named “Budhiyasa” and a few “Names Toriyama Forgot“.

We also covered the unfortunate stroke that veteran voice actor Takeshi Aono recently suffered, and what this means for the role of Kami-sama going forward in the franchise. Things wrap up with a great batch of releases and e-mails, including a dip back in time to an older episode about gender roles and their representation in the series. Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.

Podcast Episode #0221 — 31 May 2010

While it may not sound like the most enthralling “radio” in the world, our look at the first new art and illustration book for the franchise in fifteen years is pretty gosh darn exciting. Ōgon no Senshi (“The Golden Warrior”) was released just last month in Japan, and is a steal at around $12. We are spoiling the entire podcast by saying so, but you should really just go ahead and order the darn thing right now. Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.

Podcast Episode #0220 — 24 May 2010

We traditionally do not cover any dub of the franchise in this sort of (extreme) depth here on the website and podcast. Since we have already editorialized and pontificated upon Kai as an entity more than our fair share, it seemed like the best route to take with FUNimation’s recent release was to focus on the one aspect new to the release — its English dub. Is it truly the most accurate and faithful English dub the series has received, or is it traditional FUNimation where one little aspect somewhere holds it back from being everything it can be? Our buddy Hujio joins us for the topic, while a little bit of news, releases for the next month, and e-mails that make us think real hard about our viewpoints round out the episode! Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0220! VegettoEX, Meri, and Hujio dive in to FUNimation’s domestic release of “DragonBall Z Kai”. Having already covered “Kai” as an entity (and specifically the first story arc) extensively on the show before, we figured the best course of action was to cover the one entirely new aspect of this release – the new English dub. Is it truly the most accurate and faithful English dub the series has received, or is it traditional FUNimation where one little aspect somewhere holds it back from being everything it can be? A little bit of news, releases for the next month, and e-mails that make us think real hard about our viewpoints round out the episode!

Turns out we made a little mistake in the “Releases” segment of the show — the second DragonBall DVD box for France appears to be due out in July, and not later on this month. Sorry!

SHOW DESCRIPTION:

Our “Attack of the Saiyans” contest winner is announced and we also read out some of our favorite entries. May’s releases and your e-mails round out the show.

Podcast Episode #0218 — 25 April 2010

Way back on Episode #0078 of our podcast we reviewed Shoko Nakagawa and her new cover album which featured the lead single “Romantikku Ageru yo”, a cover on the DragonBall TV series’ closing theme. Here we are almost exactly three years later, and the cat-eating otaku idol is at it again with our favorite series.

This time she is covering “Detekoi Tobikiri ZENKAI Pawâ!”, the first closing theme to the DragonBall Z TV series, along with a TV-sized cover of “DAN DAN Kokoro Hikarete ‘ku”, the opening theme to the DragonBall GT TV series. Is the CD even worth a listen? A little bit of news discussion, releases for the next few weeks, and a nice little batch of e-mails round out the episode. Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.
