Kanzenshuu – The Podcast

Your one and only Dragon Ball podcast!

Our “weekly” podcast, then named Daizenshuu EX – The Podcast, began in November 2005 as a new way to reach out to our audience, extend that audience, and simply have fun with the franchise we love so much. Though we updated the name to Kanzenshuu – The Podcast in April 2012 with the launch of this website, we remain the best, most authoritative, entertaining, and only Dragon Ball podcast you will ever need!

Each episode, the Kanzenshuu staff discuss the latest news in the world of Dragon Ball from across the globe before heading into a core topic — whether it be an in-depth discussion of the way in which the story and franchise was produced, theories for in-universe scenarios and “What If?” scenes, interviews with those actually involved with the franchise, thorough reviews of video games or home video releases, we have you covered! We wrap things up with the month’s upcoming releases, questions from the listeners, and much more! We regularly have contests, broadcast live (watch our Twitter and Facebook!), and have a great time sharing our love of the Dragon Ball franchise with you all each and every week.

Podcast Episode #0217 — 18 April 2010

This podcast episode and “Manga Review of Awesomeness” is brought to you by exploding Cell Jr. heads:

Julian just finished moving in with the fiancee, so with all of his stuff in storage and an otherwise all-local recording, we decided to do a live broadcast of the show this week. The Cell Game has finally begun, and Goku has just as quickly turned it on over to the next fighter. Was the build-up to Gohan done as well as it could have been, and are we buying it? Was this also the last great transformation sequence in the series? Our live broadcast covers a bunch of questions from the audience, talk about the upcoming new closing theme to Kai, and so much more! Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.

Podcast Episode #0216 — 11 April 2010

This week on the show, Hujio and I go it alone! We have tons of news to catch up on and discuss, including (but not limited to!) all of the (Z) Kai broadcast shenanigans. For our topic, we dive back into the Freeza arc and closely examine Vegeta and his one-on-one rivalries. Some of them are quite obvious and receive a good amount of exposition, while characters like Dodoria and Zarbon just seem to be in his way. How does he handle all of them, and what does it tell us about his character? Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0216! VegettoEX and Hujio go it alone this week diving into all of the news. Birthdays, anniversaries, new books and video games, “Kai” updates both in Japan and the US (including Nicktoons censorship)… we have some busy times going on these days. We also discuss Vegeta’s one-on-one rivalries during the Freeza story arc, most notably with Kewi and Ghurd. April’s releases and other jabber round out the episode!

Podcast Episode #0215 — 04 April 2010

This week on the show, Hujio joins us to chillax with a bit of news from the last week. It has been a slow build-up to some domestic news coming out of conventions this weekend, but we could only hint at some prior-knowledge with a dash of speculation as we led up to it. In a nutshell, we talk a bit more about the DragonBall Uranai book that just came out in Japan, and FUNimation’s full-length trailer for DragonBall (Z) Kai. Your e-mails give us plenty to talk about, as well, though…! Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0215! VegettoEX, Meri, and Heath dive in to what little news there was this past week, but spend some extra time dissecting it all and relay stories of fandom past, present, and future. As much as we try to avoid talking about “Kai” so much, it seems we just cannot avoid it. April’s jam-packed releases schedule and some great e-mails from you all round out the episode.

Podcast Episode #0214 — 28 March 2010

This week on the show, we finally got around to taking a look at one of the more popular fan-manga out there called Dragon Ball Multiverse out of France!

It has been two years since we looked at Toyble’s Dragon Ball AF fan-comic, and it made sense for us to give the other “big” one its fair shot. Does the concept do more for us than the actual execution, or is there enough genuinely interesting story-telling going on? Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.

As you tune in, you will probably notice another huge jump in the sound quality. It made sense after five years or so to finally encode at a higher bitrate. You’re welcome!

Podcast Episode #0213 — 21 March 2010

Having reached the appropriate place in our monthly “Manga Review of Awesomeness”, it made sense to take pause and focus in on Trunks for an episode.

This week we take a look at “TRUNKS: THE STORY”, the special manga chapter that was later adapted into the second DBZ TV special, and compare the two. How do the direct contradictions between the original source and the animated adaptation affect our enjoyment? Is Trunks a genuinely interesting character, or is his world the actual interesting thing? Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0213! VegettoEX, Meri, Julian, and Jeff do a mid-month “Review of Awesomeness” and compare the “TRUNKS: THE STORY” manga chapter with the second DBZ TV special, along with all the standard analysis you’ve come to expect. The rest of March’s releases, an e-mail, a contest winner, and a bunch of other good stuff rounds out the episode.

Podcast Episode #0212 — 14 March 2010

Clearly there was a good bit of news this week, so we took the opportunity to dive into it full-force alongside some other great material we have been working on for you. Our good friend Hujio joins me for an in-depth discussion of all the recent news, including a hint of a team-up between Viz and FUNimation that our forum buddy Innagadadavida tipped us off about.

We also got a chance to speak with Amber Rosier, the founder of the “DragonBall Z Appreciation Club” at Shawnee State University in Ohio! My experiences with even uttering the name of a character from DBZ during my tenure as president of my college’s anime club seem to be the complete opposite of the awesomeness that Amber has going on, so definitely tune in to hear some great stories of fans coming together.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0212! It has been a big week with lots of things going on, so we break up the show into a bunch of individual segments to cover it all. The core trio of VegettoEX, Meri, and Julian cover the introductions, releases, e-mails, and other good stuff. Hujio joins us to talk about the news, including the Nicktoons airing of “Kai” coming this year. Podcast Episode #0211 — 07 March 2010

We are back in the swing of things! Our secondary recording rig bit the big one this week, so while we may sound a little “airy” at times, all the content you know and love is there for you. We finally picked back up with Volume 33 in our “Manga Review of Awesomeness” and have a hard time deciding if this was a natural “cool-down” period to get us where we are heading next in the story. Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe (for free!).

For the record — Cell has a tiny, pointy nose. Confirmed.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:

Some brief news, all of March’s releases, and some great e-mails from our listeners (including the on-going aspect ratio debate!) round out the show. Also… Cell has a tiny, pointy nose.

Podcast Episode #0210 — 21 February 2010

This weekend Julian was off helping out the children with an event at school, so we invited our bud Hujio to shoot the shiz with us. We are in the middle of lining up a bunch of interviews, so we took the opportunity with a little downtime to catch up on this week’s news and a bunch of your e-mails. Fret not — we are as content-packed as any other regular episode! Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:

FUNimation has confirmed more about the domestic release of “Kai”, the new “DragonBall DS 2” is announced for the US as “Origins 2”, and a whole lot more kept us on our toes this week. We also catch up with a huge batch of listener e-mails with topics ranging from more name mispronunciations to the ever-resurfacing prospect of FUNimation re-releases.

Podcast Episode #0209 — 14 February 2010

This week we took out our grab-bag of topic ideas and found one that was only moderately-interesting at first… but just got more and more fascinating as we looked into each instance. Confused? Perhaps this will help:

Throughout the series, characters mis-pronounce or otherwise mis-read another character’s name. These are usually Japanese-specific jokes penned by the author, and can be incredibly difficult to adapt in translations. This week we take a look at some of these examples from the perspective of both the original Japanese version, as well as some other languages and their adaptations. Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0209! VegettoEX, Meri, and Julian discuss jokes in the series based on the mispronunciation of a character’s name. Remember such characters as Tenka-ichi Budokai competitors Mago Gosora and Gyoza…? Domestic “Kai” release news (including some dub recasts), February’s releases, and a whole lot more rounds out the episode.

Podcast Episode #0208 — 07 February 2010

I must say that it was perfect timing to get that Yamcha episode done last week, because Kai interrupted our regularly-scheduled programming yet again…!

With an official announcement of its licensing (and Jeff sick with family coming to town), it made sense to dedicate another podcast episode to the “refreshed” version of the DBZ TV series. You may think there is not a lot to discuss just yet, but never doubt the power of talkative fans. In our three topical segments, Hujio joins us to briefly recap how this “refresh” came about and what it ended up being (along with its domestic name change), Kendamu joins us to discuss what the manga fan is looking for in a domestic release of the series, while Gozar joins us to talk about what the FUNimation dub fan is looking for. Download the show now, or head on over to the podcast page for more information or to subscribe.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0208! VegettoEX, Meri, and Julian discuss the latest news about “DragonBall Kai” before we bring in some friends to talk about specific aspects of the licensing news. Hujio joins us to give a recap on what “Kai” is in the first place and its domestic name change, Kendamu joins us to talk from the manga fan perspective, while Gozar joins us to talk from the dub fan perspective. We do not have a whole lot to go on just yet, but fandom seems braced for all the extra attention coming its way.
