Whis is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Whis makes his debut in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, which premiered on 30 March 2013 in Japan, as the Guide to Beerus, the God of Destruction of Universe Seven.
Biography
Whis is a magic man.
Name
Whis's name is likely derived from whiskey (ウイスキー/uisukii), a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash and aged in wooden casks, generally made of charred white oak. The character name drops the last two katakana from "whiskey" as written in Japanese. This name pun follows the theme of Gods of Destruction and Angels being named after alcoholic beverages.[2]
Performance
Whis is voiced by Masakazu Morita, who had previously voiced Tarble in the 2008 special Heya! Son Goku and Friends Return!!. In the Tournament of Power, he also gives his voice to Il, the Kaiōshin of Universe Eight, Rabanra of Universe Two, and Kunshi of Universe Eleven's Pride Troopers.
