Nigrissi is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Nigrissi makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 92, broadcast on 28 May 2017 on Fuji TV, as a modified warrior of Universe 3.
Biography
Nigrissi is a remodeled warrior with a trademark "~Guri" expression. In the Tournament of Power, he was dropped out of the ring by Cabba's blow.[1]
Tournament of Power
As Universe 3's greatest modified warrior, Nigrissi is responsible for retrofitting warriors for the Tournament of Power. He presents Narirama to Mosco and Ea, demonstrating his skills, including his Super Survival Mode. He then claims that other warriors are also being retrofitted for the tournament, and there are brief glimpses of Biarra, Catopesra, Boraleta, an unidentified warrior (perhaps Maji-Kayo), The Priccio, and Paparoni. Nigrissi promises that Universe 3 will be the universe to survive, and Mosco beeps happily.[2]
Nigrissi is next seen when the Great Priest transports the Universe 3 team to the World of Void.[3] After Narirama is disarmed by Hit of Universe 6 and Basil of Universe 9, Nigrissi calls out to him in distress.[4] Nigrissi is later seen briefly fighting Vegeta of Universe 7, but Vegeta moves on quickly to Obni of Universe 10 before abandoning both to help Goku.[5] Later, as Vegeta fights Botamo and Magetta of Universe 6, Cabba approaches to challenge him. Murisam of Universe 10 and Nigrissi attempt to attack Cabba, but he effortlessly knocks both out of the ring.[6]
Nigrissi is erased along with the rest of Universe 3 after the defeat of Agnilasa.[7] When No. 17 uses the Super Dragon Balls to restore all of the destroyed universes, Nigrissi is seen with Mosco, Ea, and the rest of his teammates back home in Universe 3.[8]
Name
Nigrissi's name is likely an anagram of Grissini (グリッシーニ): long, thin, Italian-style breadsticks native to Turin in the foothills of the Italian Alps. The character name is a rearrangement of the katakana used to write "grissini" in Japanese with the vowel elongation dropped from the "shi" syllable.[9]
Performance
Nigrissi is voiced by Daisuke Kishio, best known as the voice of Cabba. In the Tournament of Power, Kishio also gives his voice to Liquir, the God of Destruction of Universe 8; Boraleta, also of Universe 3, and Methiop of Universe 10. In the FUNimation dub, Nigrissi is voiced by Jon Allen in his first role for the franchise.
