It looks like Lantis has updated their website for the upcoming “Super Survivor” CD “single” which we know contains that song, the theme for the upcoming “Burst Limit” video game, and more:

  1. “Super Survivor”
  2. “Kiseki no Honō yo Moegare!”
  3. “Super Survivor” (English Version)
  4. “Kiseki no Honō yo Moegare!” (English Version)
  5. Image Song
  6. Image Song
  7. Off Vocal
  8. Off Vocal

“English Version” is definitely intriguing. You probably know that “Image Song” is what we could call a random song that appears on an album called something like “Music From And Inspired By (insert name here)” — it is not actually from the show/game, but in the same style, etc. “Off Vocal” is just another phrase for “karaoke version”.

So that about sums it up. I look forward to getting final information on the CD, which drops 09 April 2008 in Japan.

David Smith over at IGN has written up yet another article talking about some of our favorite material and its author. Smith does a pretty good job of explaining Toriyama’s humor and pretty powerful penchant for puns (once I got going on the alliteration, I couldn’t stop).

There is not a whole lot in there that visitors / readers / listeners of this website would not already be familiar with, but it is always encouraging to see some pretty intelligent writings on mainstream sites like IGN.

Akira Toriyama is going to be teaming up with Masakazu Katsura (the creator of series such as “Video Girl Ai” and more recently “I”s”, and not to mention the contributor of the idea of fusion in Dragon Ball…!) for a special one-shot that will appear in the May issue of “Jump Square” in Japan. There is no indication one way or the other yet as to whether or not it will contain any Dragon Ball elements, but we are assuming it would be something entirely new.

I’m not doing very good on keeping up with the “Friday” portion of “From The Past Friday”, am I? Oh, well…!

So here is a fun little doo-diddly you might have heard about either from actually being that old, or perhaps reading about it over in our “Rumor Guide”. Well, I dug up the voice samples and they are even older than those FUNimation clips we have been sharing, so I guess that makes them pretty darn well from the past!

Back in 1999, we played a fun little prank saying that Saffron Henderson (the previous voice of Gohan from Ocean Studios when FUNimation was first dubbing Dragon Ball Z) would be returning to play the role, rather than having it re-cast. This was, of course, absolutely false… but that did not stop us from having a friend at the time (Matt / “PyRo321”) use his then-young voice to do some impressions and fool some people!

Saffron Returns Prank – Clip #1 (40 KB)

Saffron Returns Prank – Clip #2 (14 KB)

Saffron Returns Prank – Clip #3 (53 KB)

Saffron Returns Prank – Clip #4 (52 KB)

When you look back on it now, it is pretty hard to see how anyone would believe it. I guess it was still that magical time and we were all in denial as to what FUNimation was actually doing. It sure made for good times, though! We will hit you back tomorrow with a podcast episode and contest winner!

Episode #0114 of the podcast is available for download! Sorry about the slight delay; blame Comcast. Anyway, kinoko (our resident Tenshinhan fangirl) came down to record the episode with us, since the character’s actually still relevant to the story for a little bit more. Lots of great discussions came up during our review, and I totally loved listening to it again. We also announced the winner of our 10th anniversary contest… did you win?! Definitely check it out.
