CDJapan is taking pre-orders for a couple new calendars, including the official DBZ 2008 calendar! It was exactly this time last year that we started getting wind of the next year’s calendars over in Japan, so it is great to see them keeping up with the releases. This particular one will set you back a mere ¥2100 at retail, and it is out 14 September 2007.

There’s also a general Toei Animation calendar coming out the same day for only ¥1575 at retail — check that one out on CDJapan, as well.

Episode #0092 of the podcast is finally available for download! And it has a special bonus video to go along with it! We’re hitting you back once again with another discussion about an inconsistency between the manga and the TV series. This time around, it’s all about Cargo! You know Cargo… No, really… You do. He’s Dende’s little brother. He’s around for a couple panels, and then he’s dead. Good stuff. In addition to the topic, we also went over some pretty huge news (which you already know about since you read this home page ^_~), September’s ridiculous amount of releases, and hit up a few e-mail questions all related to AMVs. Definitely check it out.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0092! VegettoEX and Meri debut the next inconsistencies discussion with the death of Cargo. While he was killed by Freeza in the manga, his killer was changed to Dodoria for the TV series. Why was this change made? Gigantic live-action movie news, video game news, music news, September’s releases, and an AMV-themed collection of e-mails round out the episode. Julian is off to Japan!

Over on Anime News Network, we have a link to the Montreal Gazette’s story by Brendan Kelly stating the following:

The 20th Century Fox studio is expected to shoot three big-budget movies in Montreal over the next year; each has a budget of at least $100 million. The films are the Night at the Museum sequel Another Night, Independence Day director Roland Emmerich’s remake of the sci-fi flick Fantastic Voyage and a big-screen adaptation of the Japanese manga Dragonball Z.

[…]

Dragonball Z is adapted from the manga created by Akira Toriyama; the work was also turned into a Japanese anime series that played all over the world. It tells the story of an alien sent to destroy Earth, who has a change of heart and decides to join the humans in their fight against various aliens and bad guys.

There are no details yet as to when these three shoots will begin, but they are expected to wrap production by next July.

There you have it. After all the years of confirmed news, additional rumors, more confirmations, fall-outs, more rumors… the damn thing is finally going to get made.

If you check out this entry over on RightStuf, the listing for the so-called “Dragon Ball Ultimate Edition DVD (Hyb)” from Tai Seng has a release date of 30 October 2007.

Now, Tai Seng is the distributor for a bunch of Chinese / Hong Kong live action movies, including the infamous “Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins” (the live action DB movie from 1989). The original North American printing of the DVD (which was English dub-only) came out in 1999, and is in fact still available on sites like Amazon.

So what is this upcoming release? Judging by the “(Hyb)” in the RightStuf listing, we can make a pretty educated guess that it will be a new release containing both the original Chinese dialogue as well as the hilarious English dub. We will definitely keep an eye on this one and let you know…

In the mean time, here is a picture to remind you how awesome the movie is:

You know you love it.

Differing from their stand-alone releases of, for example, a Naruto information book, the October 2007 issue of Viz’s domestic Shonen Jump magazine includes a section entitled “Dragon Ball Collector”. Information within this section includes a history of some video games, fusions, the Tenka’ichi Budōkai, action figures, and more.

The issue also contains the first of a two-part interview with original manga author Akira Toriyama entitled “Interview with the Majin!” discussing inspiration for the Boo arc and different types of dragons. Finally, the issue also contains an English-translated chapter of “Neko Majin Z 5”.

Indeed, they published the very last chapter (with nothing else before it, or hints at a future release of the whole thing)…!

Episode #0091 of the podcast is available for download! I know… three updates in one day?! That’s unpossible! But here it is, believe it or not. This week, we went in-depth with the ending to DragonBall GT. The two big questions that were asked and discussed were: (1) Did Goku die?, and (2) Where did Goku go? / What did Goku become? As Meri mentioned during the episode, this is perhaps the “deepest” you can go with the DragonBall series, so if you’ve been looking to wax philosophical for a while, this doozy of a conversation is probably right up your alley.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0091! VegettoEX, Meri, and Julian follow up with a couple more song homages regarding last week’s topic, and then move into this week’s DBGT ending analysis. The two big questions in every fan’s mind seem to be: (1) Did Goku die? and (2) Where did he go / What did he become? We’ll take you through this conversation and hopefully bring up some points you may have never noticed. August’s releases and some more video game e-mails round out the episode!

Our buddy sangofe and everyone on our forum have done a really great job of keeping up with this release over in France. While it is not officially out yet, they have managed to snag some images that a lucky consumer has put up, along with some great comparison images with the Japanese release of “Dragon Box: The Movies”. Packaging, screen shots, etc. can all be found updated in the forum thread right at the top. The “remastering” seems to be a little better (less-intrusive, more appropriately put) than FUNimation’s, but it is still nowhere near the Japanese release.

After another month of waiting, the next set of the Dragon Ball individual discs are finally here! As always, each of these discs contain six episodes, covering episodes 091 thru 108, and are set to be released 05 September 2007. This set wraps up the 22nd Tenkai’chi Budōkai arc and moves us into my favorite part of the series, the Piccolo-Daimaō arc. You can still order any of the released Z discs or any of these discs from Amazon Japan.

Episode #0090 of the podcast is available for download! The confirmation of Chi-Chi in the game was obviously put up on the site after the episode had been recorded, but since you’re reading this, you’re certainly all up-to-date, anyway… and that’s what’s really important. Beyond talking about a bit of Sparking! METEOR news, the main meat of the episode was discussing how some DragonBall songs either pay a little homage to, on in the case of one particular song, outright copy pretty much the entire song. Curious as to what we’re talking about? Well, just tune in and listen for yourself. Lots of other great stuff is in the show, including some pretty in-depth e-mail responses. Definitely check it out.

Jeux-France has updated with some larger scans showcasing new characters in “Sparking! METEOR”. All of the ones from prior updates appear, including the hinted-at Chi-Chi…! It will be her young form as depicted in her first appearance, which is pretty neat stuff:

The other big of interesting news is the confirmation that the game’s opening will indeed be yet another CG movie (rather than the traditional 2D animation found in the second and third “Budokai” games). As we have covered in the past, the opening will feature an all-new song entitled “Super Survivor” performed by the one and only Hironobu Kageyama.
