EvilGamerX has plopped a brand, spakin’ new scan from “Weekly Shōnen Jump” (#38, to be exact) over on the forum, which showcases three all-new playable characters in the upcoming “Sparking! METEOR”: Dr. Uiro, Great Ape Selypa, and Tambourine!

I know people around here have been specifically clamoring for the ol’ doctor, so that is certainly something!

Episode #0089 of the podcast is available for download! Boy, do I need to get some sleep. In the meantime, the episode this week is indeed volume seven of the so-called “Manga Review of Awesomeness”…! Lots of other great things came up, including a mini-topic regarding our thoughts on DragonBall hentai. Definitely check it out.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0089! VegettoEX, Meri, Julian, and Jeff dive into volume seven of the “Manga Review of Awesomeness.” It seems to have picked up a bit from the last volume, but has Toriyama alienated some up-and-coming fans with a step backwards in humor and story-telling? Japanese figures news, American internet streaming, Meri’s Top 5 Panels from volume seven, August’s releases, and your e-mails round out the episode.

Episode #0088 of the podcast is available for download! Sorry for the day-delay. As you can probably guess, things have been a little hectic. But fear not, since we are here to deliver! We discussed all of the news from the last week, including the two Koro-chan Pack CDs, the surprising continuation of FUNimation’s Spanish DVD releases, the apparent DBGT “Lost Episodes” boxset coming out, Japanese-exclusive TV plug-and-play games, and so much more. Our e-mails were all fantastic, as well, and allowed us to get into the always-interesting topic of DragonBall’s inherent qualities versus Naruto’s inherent qualities… or lack of on both sides, depending on your viewpoint. Definitely check it out.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0088! VegettoEX, Meri, and Julian conveniently put off volume seven of the manga in order to do another “Catching Up On E-mails” episode! Julian indeed makes his triumphant return to catch us up-to-date on all the Japanese news (video games, CDs, and more), in addition to some other random tidbits. Our e-mails always make great mini-topics, including the requisite DBZ vs. Naruto question.

Tanooki Kuribo did a little extra digging around based on the previous update, and found a companion to the “Koro-chan Pack Dragon Ball Z Best” CD that is coming out in September. What is this companion, you ask? One for the original Dragon Ball, of course! It looks like we are also getting “Koro-chan Pack Dragon Ball Best”. You can find its entry over on Play-Asia and CDJapan. According to its Neowing page, we can expect both “Makafushigi Adventure!” and “Romantikku Ageru Yo” along with a couple other songs.

“Koro-chan Pack Dragon Ball Best” (COCZ-1064) should come out for the same ¥1575 (roughly $12-$13) 09 September 2007.

In doing my typical rounds this evening, I came across an interesting entry over on CDJapan. If you check out the corresponding Neowing page, you can check out a little more info. This “Koro-chan Pack Dragon Ball Z Best” is essentially a cheap CD put out to cash in a little bit; the page even mentions that the series has regained a bit of popularity. It will contain “CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA” and some ending themes from the movies and TV specials. These CDs typically only have a few tracks (thus the low price tag).

“Koro-chan Pack Dragon Ball Z Best” (COCZ-1065) will come out for a rather cheap ¥1575 (roughly $12-$13) 09 September 2007.

The next set of the Dragon Ball individual disc covers are here! As always, each of these discs contain six episodes, covering episodes 073 thru 090, and are set to be released on 01 August 2007. This set wraps up the visit to Uranai Baba and moves into the heart of the 22nd Tenka’ichi Budōkai arc. You can still order any of the released Z discs or any of these discs from Amazon Japan.

Toei has also released the remaining release dates for the rest of the Dragon Ball individual discs, which have all been added to our home video guide. If Toei follows suite with their previous releases, the GT discs will start being released one month after the DB discs’ final release, which in turn means that the GT discs will most likely begin to be released sometime in February of 2008, which is right around the corner.

FUNimation will apparently be releasing the first two Broli movies (DBZ movies 8 & 10) on Blu-Ray (as a single-disc double-feature). It sounds like they are going the same “remastered” route (and boy-oh-boy, do you know that we use that term EVER so ironically when referring to their latest releases) as the TV series, so you can expect the same… err… “visual quality” blown up to the full HD resolution, allowing you to see every pixel of wrongness.

You can check out a trailer over on a new IGN article.

Anime News Network’s coverage of the Viz panel at Comic-Con gives us a little information on the upcoming “Viz Big” series, which will include “Rurouni Kenshin” alongside both Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z:

Viz Media opened its panel with the announcement of “Viz Big,” an omnibus line that collects long-running series into three-in-one volumes. This new US$17.99 format offers new illustrations on paperback covers with gatefold flaps, color page inserts, and a larger print size (5.75 by 8.625 inches, like Vagabond). The May 2008 launch titles under Viz Big include Rurouni Kenshin, Dragon Ball, and Dragon Ball Z.

Everything in there seems to point to a kanzenban-styled release, but probably not the exact same thing. The dimensions are pretty close (my measurements of the kanzenban come to 5.75 by 8.25). The new artwork, flaps, color pages, and larger print size all ring the kanzenban bell, though. So will Viz finally release it properly, including all the bits here and there they have been censoring (artwork, dialogue, names, etc.)? Will they include the new ending Toriyama wrote? Who knows?! We will certainly keep you updated as we find out more information!
