Last month Universal Music France released a digital-only “official soundtrack” for the international version of the “Majin Boo arc” of Dragon Ball Kai, known as “The Final Chapters”, which completely flew under the radar (due to virtually no advertising of its release). The album was officially released on 11 February 2015, with a retail price of €14.99 (~$16.50), and contains 33 tracks. These tracks consist of 30 pieces of background music by series composer Norihito Sumitomo, the international opening theme “Fight It Out!!” performed by Masatoshi Ono, the as-of-yet unused insert song “Let It Burn” performed by Masatoshi Ono, and the international ending theme “Never Give Up!!” performed by R&B singer Junear. It is worth noting that both the recap music, title card theme, and next episode preview theme have all been omitted from this release, as well as numerous other pieces of background music used in the series.

As of now there has been no official soundtrack announced for the Japanese broadcast version of the “Majin Boo arc” of Dragon Ball Kai, with the exception of theme song singles, so it is possible that this may be the only available option for fans of the series to own its background music. The soundtrack is currently available for purchase on various online retailers, including Amazon France, iTunes, and Spotify.

A huge thanks to danielsan_190196 for the heads up about this!

The story for Revival of “F”, opening nationwide in Japan 18 April 2015 in 2D and IMAX 3D, is being crafted by original manga author Akira Toriyama, who stated he is writing it, “…as though it were a continuation of the manga when it was in serialization,” and that while it will, “…of course be a continuation of the previous Battle of Gods,” he has also, “…deliberately increased the amount of action scenes by a good deal.” Tadayoshi Yamamuro, who worked for many years as character designer and animation supervisor on the Dragon Ball franchise, will serve as the film’s director and animation supervisor. Norihito Sumitomo will return from Battle of Gods and the Majin Boo arc of Dragon Ball Kai for musical composition duties. The third box set of the “Majin Boo arc” of Dragon Ball Kai was released today, with the cover art featuring an illustration of Super Saiyan 3 Son Goku by Tadayoshi Yamamuro. The box set contains episodes 123 to 134 of the Japanese broadcast version of the series on 2 discs and comes packaged with an exclusive booklet. The Blu-ray box dropped with a ¥15,200 (~$148.00) retail price point, while the DVD set comes in a little cheaper at ¥11,200 (~$110.00). Both formats of this release are currently available on CDJapan and Amazon Japan.

The fourth box set of the “Majin Boo arc” is still tentatively scheduled to be release on 30 June 2015, and is set to cover episodes 135 to 146. Episode 143 of Dragon Ball Kai was recently broadcast this last weekend in Japan, which covered the events up thru episode 265 of Dragon Ball Z, and the series is currently anticipated to run into June 2015 with approximately 158 to 160 episodes. As of now, a fifth box set has not been announced, but it is anticipated.

We are also able to confirm, thanks to our amazingly awesome international fans, that the Japanese version of the series has been mirroring the international version of the series (“The Final Chapters”) since episode 107. Essentially, the first 15 episodes of “The Final Chapters” were condensed down into the first 8 episodes for broadcast in Japan. Beyond that, both versions have been identical, with the exception of their openings, endings, and eyecatches.

We will do our best to keep you posted with any new developments with the series as we approach its finale, whenever that may be.

Japanese beverage company Kirin has recently unveiled a new promotional campaign for the upcoming film, Dragon Ball Z: Revival of “F”. By purchasing and submitting shipping labels from any of Kirin’s participating Mets soft drinks — Grape, Orange, Cola, and Lychee — by 14 May 2015, you will be entered into a prize drawing. 100 lucky winners will win a set of seven “Collaboration Quo Cards” totaling ¥35,000, with each card individually worth ¥5,000 and featuring an illustration or scene from the upcoming film. Another 2,500 winners will receive a Son Goku designed cotton bath towel (60cm x 120cm), while 2,500 other winners will receive a Freeza designed bath towel.

As a part of this promotional campaign, Kirin has also created two new short 15 second TV commercials promoting their new “Mets Orange Goku” and “Mets Grape Freeza” sodas. The commercials were choreographed by Takahiro Ueno, animated by Takeshi Morita, and directed by Tadashi Tsukagoshi, in a style not typical of the series, but do feature both Masako Nozawa (Son Goku) and Ryūsei Nakao (Freeza) in their respective commercials.

We will of course continue to keep tabs on the inevitable onslaught of promotional goods for the upcoming film, so be sure to stay tuned to Kanzenshuu for the latest “Revival of ‘F'” news and information!

After a tease on Mezamashi TV earlier this morning in Japan, Toei Animation released a new trailer for the upcoming film, Dragon Ball Z: Revival of “F”.

WARNING: Major spoilers ahead!

On-screen text during Mezamashi TV’s coverage describes Freeza’s new form — which was otherwise set to debut in the 2015 #15 issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump in Japan — as 究極の進化 ゴールデンフリーザー (Kyūkyoku no shinka: Gōruden Furīza or “the ultimate evolution: Golden Freeza”).

Jaco, from Akira Toriyama’s 2013 spin-off/prequel Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, is set to make an appearance in the film.

NARRATOR: “At last, the overlord is revived. He has but one objective: revenge upon Son Goku.”

Freeza: “Well then, shall we begin?”

(“F” by Maximum the Hormone)

Freeza: “Allow me to show you… my further evolution!” / “Why don’t we start the second part of my revenge?”

Goku: “Freeeeeezaaaa!

(“‘Z’ no Chikai” / “Vow of ‘Z'” by Momoiro Clover Z)

Freeza: “Mr. Vegeta! I’ll make you the commander-in-chief of Freeza’s forces.”

Narrator: “Just what is the worst outcome that waits at the end of the fierce battle…?”

Beerus: “This is something you invited by being soft.”

Vegeta: “You’re history.”

(Freeza laugh)

With 47 days remaining until the film’s debut, the official blog to promote Dragon Ball Z: Revival of “F” has updated with a visit from Kuririn!  Bulma offers an extensive critique of Kuririn’s life choices…

Bulma: Hey, Bulma here!
Just 47 days left until the premiere!
Oh Kuririn, finally showed up, huh?

Kuririn: What’s that supposed to mean?…I’m busy too, you know! I recently joined the police, so I’ve got patrols and stuff!

Bulma: Police? A bit late for you to be starting a career like that, isn’t it?

Kuririn: Well, if I hang around the house too much, 18 bugs me about getting a job. She’s scary!

Bulma: It’s because you’re such a slacker! Well, since you’re a policeman, you might as well go keep Earth peaceful! After all, Freeza’s coming back to life! You’ll get yourself killed again if you’re not careful!

Kuririn: Please don’t say things like that… Anyway, I’m sure Goku or Vegeta will manage something. The way things are now, I’d just get in their way.

Bulma: That’s a fine attitude to take! You’d be better off shaving your head to get yourself all fired up like in the old days!  Right!?

Kuririn: Wha?! Give me a break, Bulma!

The official website (and more specifically, the recently-updated YouTube channel) for Dragon Ball Heroes — the four-year-old, still-going-strong, card-based arcade game — has updated with a slew of promotional material for its upcoming God Mission 1 (“GDM1”) update coming this month.

dbheroes_logo_medium

The 15-second “GDM1” series announcement video provides a glimpse of the “Masked Saiyan” (a mind-controlled Bardock), as well as Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, the new “Kamehameha” Card Action Ability, and various “new elements” (such as a scouter for one’s Hero Avatar).

The nearly-two-minute main promotional video, meanwhile, gives a more detailed look at the above, plus content that suggests the player’s Scouter may be used to for functions other than mere decoration. There is also the suggestion that, by playing a “Hero Avatar Card”, one is able to create a Genki-Dama by gathering energy from one’s other cards.

The minute-and-a-half-long “Special Movie” acts as the sort of “opening” theme and animation for the update includes both Time Patrol Trunks (from Dragon Ball Online and Dragon Ball Xenoverse) and the aforementioned scouter, while also heavily promoting the upcoming movie, Dragon Ball Z: Revival of “F”. It even manages to work in Jaco from Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, although his inclusion here may be simply due to his existence as a card in the game itself, rather than any indication that he might appear in the film.

The five-minute-long “How to Play” video provides an overview of just that along with showcasing some of the new characters and their abilities, including the aforementioned Genki-Dama, which is called “God-Dama” and increases its potency with the number of characters attacking. By charging up enough energy, the player unleashes what is essentially a Genki-Dama on his or her opponent. It is also gives a glimpse of the first new mission of the new series. By achieving certain conditions, the player obtains a “legend clear” and can access stages from alternate futures (a clear nod to Xenoverse). Avo and Cado, the villains of the 2008 Jump Super Anime Tour special, are also shown. A “Dark Demon Realm” stage is also previewed, where the player faces off against a mind-controlled Bardock.

There is also an introduction to the Tenka’ichi Budōkai, where players compete against each other to try and progress to the “God League”, which comes with a special badge and the right to do battle against other players in the same league.

The “GDM1” update to Dragon Ball Heroes in Japanese arcades will be released 12 March 2015.

Thanks to Vitas Varnas for the heads-up.

With 48 days remaining until the film’s debut, the official blog to promote Dragon Ball Z: Revival of “F” has updated with the first of what looks to be a two-part installment featuring comments from the five members of idol group Momoiro Clover Z, the very same group contributing a song to the upcoming movie and voicing the “Angels of Hell” who are the bane of Freeza’s afterlife:

Hey there, Bulma here!
48 days until the premiere!

Today we’ve got a comment from the greatest of idol groups, the weekend heroines “Momoiro Clover Z”! Not only are they handling the theme song for the movie, but they’re also set to provide the voices for some guest characters.

Takagi: Dragon Ball’s this legendary anime that’s been around forever…I mean, even my dad loves it!

He used to wake up every week just to watch it and then go right back to sleep, so when he found out we were getting to do the theme song he was ecstatic. I bet he’ll be in seventh heaven when he hears we’re also going to be appearing as characters in the film (laughs).

Sasaki: Just getting to do the main theme was a big surprise, so voicing angels with the same 5 colors as us was an even bigger shock.

Everyone: Yeah, it was shocking.

Sasaki: We’re gonna be in Dragon Ball!

Tamai: When our group name got the “Z” added on, I thought “oh, like Dragon Ball Z”, and I wasn’t too fond of it at first (laughs). But seeing how Dragon Ball Z pops up in so many different places, I started thinking it was actually pretty cool. Now I feel closely connected to it, in a rather self-centered sort of way.

Still, it’s such a historic anime, I never dreamed we’d get to handle the theme song. I’m incredibly thrilled to have this opportunity to do the theme song for a brand-new movie, and getting to voice a character was beyond anything I expected. I’m sure it will be a memory I’ll treasure for the rest of my life.

Ariyasu: While there are probably more Dragon Ball fans in the older generation, it’ll really make me happy for those people to find out about us thanks to this. So here’s hoping we can deliver a product all the Dragon Ball fans will approve of!

Momota: Dragon Ball is a series from our fathers’ generation, so we didn’t know too much about it. But our staff and people like that got real excited and told us all about it. It’s like watching a child: we were happy, but seeing everyone around us so happy too made us even happier!
