Roasie is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Roasie makes her debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 96, broadcast on 25 June 2017 on Fuji TV, as a member of the Universe 2 team.

Biography

Roasie transforms into a Chinese-style magical warrior, a master of the Yacchaina Fist that becomes stronger and sharper the more she attacks.[1]

Tournament of Power

Roasie is one of the ten warriors chosen to represent Universe 2 in the Tournament of Power. She is first seen when the Great Priest transports the Universe 2 team to the World of Void and they are introduced to the other teams.[2] When the tournament begins, Narirama of Universe 3 goes into his Super Survival Mode and knocks Sous Roas and the other members of the Maiden Squadron flying. Helles is offended; it is not beautiful to attack the maidens before they transform.[3] After this, Roasie lays low and is not seen again until Ribrianne decides it is time for the Maiden Squadron to transform.[4]

Roasie's character design for the Tournament of Power.[1]

Brianne calls for Sous-Roas and Sanka-Ku, telling them it is time to show their power. Then she calls for the attention of the other warriors, and Jimeze, Zirloin, Bikal, Rabanra, and Zarbuto stop what they are doing to attend her. (It is unknown why the other Universe 2 fighters, Prum and Harmira, did not join them.) As Sanka and Sous join Brianne on a high rock, Goku, who was looking for Jiren, stops to see what is happening. They also have the attention of Kuririn, who is in the stands. Brianne asks the girls if they are ready, and they are; Sanka approves of the high ground for their performance. Peru roots in anticipation, and Helles stands to announce that it is time for lovely flowers to bloom on the battlefield. Beerus and Champa wonder what is going on. Vegeta asks them what this is all about.

Brianne introduces herself, followed by Sanka and Sous, and their Universe 2 teammates join them in a call-and-response ritual. "Let it bloom. Let it ring. The song of love and victory!"/"The song of love and victory!" Brianne calls "Formation!" and begins her transformation sequence as seen at her audition. Before the actual transformation begins, Sanka and Sous begin their sequences as well. Goku wonders if they are going to power up, but Beerus thinks it looks more like a recital than powering up. Helles tells him to be silent; this ritual represents the fighting spirit of the Universe 2 warriors. The maidens all drift, eyes closed, as they gather their power, and the Omni-Kings are enthralled, but then suddenly they are interrupted by a blast from No. 17. Peru is horrified; Helles demands to know who has done this. Goku asks No. 17 if he did it; No. 17 says they were wide open, and asks if there is a problem. Goku explains that they were going to transform.

The disheveled maidens rush in to angrily confront No. 17; Brianne tells him that every part of their transformation has meaning; how could he interrupt it? Toppo chimes in to support the maidens; a warrior's pose is justice, and No. 17's interruption was disrespectful. Goku pleads with No. 17 to allow them to transform, so he concedes and walks away. Brianne thanks Toppo for his understanding, but warns him that they will not hold back. Toppo says that is fine, and Goku tells them to show their full power. No. 17 takes a seat on a rock to watch, and the girls jump back up on their high rock. Beerus is frustrated with Goku; he is supposed to eliminate enemies before they reach full power. Kuririn says that is just how Goku is.

The Maiden Squadron transformation is interrupted by No. 17.[4]

Helles announces the ritual again, and Beerus and Champa cannot believe they are starting over from the beginning. Everything is repeated exactly as it was before, except that this time they successfully transform into Ribrianne, Kakunsa, and Roasie. Helles proclaims that this is the highest form of Universe 2's warriors; their mortal level might not be high enough, but their love level is the highest in all the universes. The Omni-Kings, the participating Universe 2 members, and Peru all celebrate; Peru thinks they are beautiful, but Kuririn thinks they were cuter before. Whis explains that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and each universe is different; indeed, the male Universe 10 warriors on the sidelines are enjoying the spectacle, and from Universe 11, Tupper, Zoire, Toppo, and Dispo are blushing. Goku adopts a battle stance, and Vegeta demands to see their power.

Ribrianne starts off with an attack called Love; all three maidens contribute, and they send hearts crashing all around the arena; Goku sniffs the air, and Freeza thinks the odor is foul. Obni is overcome by emotions, and Toppo warns Dispo not to inhale. Helles explains that this is the light of love; warriors bewitched by its aroma will burn. Rumoosh frantically tries to smack his warriors in the stands out of their stupor; only Rylibeu seems unaffected. Shin wonders whether Goku and the others will be okay, but Whis says they are all stoic and they seem to be holding up, even the Turtle Hermit, who was the one they would have had to worry about the most. Muten Rōshi says that his training with Pu'er is paying off, and Tenshinhan is proud of him. The Universe 7 defensive group scatters to fight independently.

Name

Roasie's name (Sous-Roas) is likely derived from "sous" (スー) and "roast" (ロース). The former refers to the sous-vide low-temperature cooking technique. The latter term, fully adopted from the English word "roast", indicates lean cuts of meat from around the shoulder and back, typically referring to what is considered the loin or sirloin in traditional American cuts. In some cases, rōsu is translated as "loin".[5]

Performance

Roasie is voiced by Yuka Saitō whose Dragon Ball roles include several minor parts in Dragon Ball Kai. In the FUNimation dub, Roasie is voiced by Kristi Rothrock in her first role for the franchise.[6]
