“Sparking! NEO” sees its release in Japan on the PlayStation 2 today! Those of you who ordered it from Play-Asia probably had it shipped out to you on Tuesday (like I did), so look for it coming in this week! Much excitement.

Look for the American release in November from Atari (retitled “Budokai Tenkaichi 2”).

It has been brought to our attention that Kazuyuki Sogabe, a voice actor known for his roles in Dragon Ball as Dr. Myu, Toma, and #13 (though possibly more well known as Kunzite in “Sailormoon”) passed away a couple weeks ago on 17 September 2006. He will be missed.

According to The Magic Box, “Famitsu” has given “Sparking! NEO” for the JP PS2 scores of 8, 8, 7, and 6, for a total of 27/40*. The game drops next week in Japan 05 October 2006.

* 8 + 8 + 7 + 6 obviously equals 29 and not 27, so if someone with the actual issue of “Famitsu” could confirm the numbers for us, that would be great.

Episode #0044 of the podcast is available for download! We recorded it before the convention, but due to remastering a video FOR the convention and delayed flights, the editing just couldn’t get finished until this morning. So here you go! Certainly an interesting episode, going into depth about the gender roles of the characters within the show, the author himself, fans, and even comparisons to other manga-ka. And to totally destroy the intelligent side of the show, Meri’s more than happy to tell you about the Top 5 Hottest Women in the series :P. Definitely check it out.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0044! VegettoEX, Meri, Julian, and Andrew talk about gender roles in the series; how are females portrayed, and are their characters written into a corner by all becoming mothers? We also compare stories and authors (Oda, Kishimoto, Takahashi, etc.) with their DB counterparts. Releases for October, some old e-mails, and our “Super DragonBall Z” contest round out the episode!

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of “Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo” (or simply “Kochikame” for short), various significant manga authors/artists have gotten together to showcase their appreciation with contributions in manga form! You can learn all about it (in Japanese, of course) over on the official website.

Akira Toriyama’s contribution is a little cross-over story in which Ryo-san is sent to work on Planet Namek, and decides to inform Freeza that his ship is illegally parked…!

Definitely check out our forum thread for previews and translations! We will talk a little more about it on this weekend’s upcoming podcast.
