Episode Summary
Opening
Gomah’s wish has been granted… but isn’t he supposed to get THREE wishes granted from Shenlong?! That’s apparently just a bonus for regulars; unknown first-timers only get a single wish. Shenlong bids his farewell, and the Dragon Balls scatter across the Earth once more.
Kuririn wakes up to see Goku and Vegeta plummeting out of the sky, then crashing into the ground back at the party. Kuririn says they’ve both grown small! Goku and Vegeta look at themselves and around at their friends in disbelief.
The Ox Demon King, Yamcha, Oolong, Pu’er, Kibito, Kaiōshin, #18, Marron, and even Piccolo are all children!
Part A
If Gomah knew this would happen, he would have wished for the Evil Third Eye from the start! Neva can’t just gather the Demon Realm Dragon Balls like he just did with Earth’s, however, to get another wish so easily; they’d have to fight the Tamagami and win! Even Neva can’t do the same ritual so quickly again, too. Degesu says that Gomah still ultimately got what he wanted, though, since now these people here on Earth are all pretty much harmless.
Even Mr. Popo and Dende have been turned back to children! Gomah wonders: without the little Namekian, will the Dragon Balls of this world be useless? Neva agrees, but Gomah says to bring him as a hostage just in case. Popo is helpless to stop them, and Degesu whisks Dende away with them in the spaceship.
Back at the party, Bulma and Chi-Chi have been turned into children as well, but Goten and Trunks are now babies all over again! Kuririn finally realizes he shrunk, too, as Goten and Trunks roll around.
Vegeta wonders if everyone has shrunk down as a bushy-haired young boy walks up, noting that all the staff are unchanged: it’s Mr. Satan (and even Boo runs by enjoying his new form)!
Bulma and Chi-Chi are into the fact that their skin is so young looking, which prompts Kuririn to note that everyone is basically still an adult on the inside, so it’s more like they’ve all been turned tiny.
Vegeta asks Piccolo what is going on around here; Piccolo supposes it might have to do with Shenlong being summoned. The world’s Ultra Super Hero Mr. Satan will… well, do something, but everyone has already walked away.
Kibito says he sensed something up at the temple, so Goku tries to fly off to check it out… but promptly drops out of the sky. A young bald boy with sunglasses and a walking cane says that because Goku shrank so suddenly, he isn’t used to the balance of his body yet. It’s the Turtle Hermit, and he’s really into his newfound youth! Kibito will take them to the temple to investigate, and Piccolo wants to come along, too.
Up above, Mr. Popo greets his visitors… but Goku says this really isn’t the time for that. Where is Dende, anyway? Some strange men took him away! They had pointy ears and said they came from the Demon Realm. Kaiōshin gasps hearing the name of the Demon Realm. One of them even looked like Kaiōshin! They called him “Degesu”… which is Kaiōshin’s younger brother! There was also a short arrogant guy and an old Namekian named Neva. Piccolo perks up at that name, saying that he was the “Legendary Namekian” who remained alone back in the Demon Realm to protect the Dragon Balls there. This Namekian could apparently even control Earth’s Dragon Balls; he was feeble, but had great power. The short one asked Shenlong to turn them all into children! Goku wants to take off after them to save Dende, but Kaiōshin says there’s no way — they can’t teleport to the Demon Realm. There might be something they can use, though; Kaiōshin tells Kibito to return to the Kaiōshin Planet and bring back the spaceship. Kibito briefly teleports away and back, bringing a moss-covered spaceship with him! Kaiōshin says that he came to this universe long ago in this spaceship. While the hatch opens, nothing inside seems to respond, so they might be out of luck. Goku thinks they can get Bulma to fix it, though! He tries to fly off again, but goes flopping off and nearly falls off the palace. Piccolo says he should get used to his body, and Goku snaps back about Piccolo doing the same. Piccolo himself flops off headfirst into a tree and his nose begins bleeding.
Part B
Kibito returns with Bulma and Vegeta in tow. Vegeta can’t let anyone get away with turning him into a little brat! Piccolo wonders where Trunks is; Bulma says she left him with a babysitter, and turns her attention to the spaceship. Kibito says a normal spaceship wouldn’t be able to get to the Demon Realm. Bulma can fix it, but it will take about ten days. Goku worries about Dende, but Kaiōshin notes that they kidnapped him without killing him, so he’s probably fine for now. Bulma needs a bunch of materials back at Capsule Corporation, so she asks Kibito to take her back again. Kibito hesitantly agrees.
Two days later, as Goku trains in his smaller body, he thinks he finally has the hang of flying. He goes in for a kick against a pillar, but realizes he didn’t reach it because he’s not used to this sense of distance with his body. Goku thinks it will take too long to get used to his body at this rate, so he flies off with a new idea.
The group wonders if everyone with pointy ears is from the Demon Realm, but Kaiōshin says while most are, not everyone is. Long ago, some sought out freedom from the Demon Realm and traveled abroad. These days, only those who are granted permission are able to travel to and from the Demon Realm.
Bulma ordered takeout for dinner, so could Kibito please go pick it up?
Goku arrives at Karin Tower, and is surprised to find his old master isn’t shocked at all to see Goku’s new stature. Karin, of course, sometimes watches down over the world below. Goku wonders if he might have too much free time. Goku has actually come for Nyoibō! It’s not connected up to the palace anymore since no-one really needs to use it to get there. Karin thinks hard about where it is, and remembers that the Turtle Hermit has it! Goku thanks Karin and plops his way down. Karin wonders if he should take Kinto’un, but Goku is good on his own.
Back at Kame House, the Turtle Hermit poses for himself in the mirror, excited to relive his youth. Goku wonders where Nyoibō is, since Karin said it’s here. The Turtle Hermit thinks for a moment, as the camera pans outside to show it holding up his laundry. Umigame gasps as he slowly turns his head up at the pole, then looks back inside again, realizing the gravity of the situation.
Goku returns back to the palace ready to show off Nyoibō! After a short display, he extends it over to Piccolo’s face and then back again. Bulma recognizes it, and when Goku says where it just came from, she rolls her eyes a bit. It’s time for dinner, so everyone digs in. Bulma realizes that this whole situation would have been easier if they brought the spaceship to Capsule Corporation, instead. Kibito finally speaks up about his position here, but Goku is more interested in hearing what Piccolo knows about the Demon Realm. Piccolo wasn’t born there, of course, but he’s heard about it. The place where Namekians lived was apparently nice, but they don’t like to be ruled over.
A spark suddenly appears in the sky, and a spaceship heads toward them. Piccolo says he doesn’t sense any malice, but his senses may have been dulled in the transformation. Popo recognizes the spaceship as like the one the Demon Realm folks used, but it’s a different color.
What looks like a blue-skinned, white-haired, young man steps out and excuses himself for intruding. His name is Glorio; Kaiōshin notices the pointy ears, and it is confirmed he comes from the Demon Realm. Glorio wants Goku to come with him to the Demon Realm to defeat King Gomah. Goku asks who this is, and Glorio explains he is an evil Majin who became king after the death of the Great Demon King Dabra. Kaiōshin thinks it was this Gomah who kidnapped Dende; he’s both powerful and crafty.
Goku is all for it, and ready to go rescue Dende! Kaiōshin wonders how Glorio even knows about Goku in the first place. Glorio says he heard about him from the king of the Third Demon World, who apparently watched Goku’s battle with Majin Boo through a magical monitor. He was ordered by the king to come here. Kaiōshin wonders if Glorio serves this king, but Glorio says he was given the request in secret. Kaiōshin announces that he will come too, both since his brother is involved, as well as him having some knowledge of the Demon Realm.
Glorio is all set to go, but Bulma would like to examine the spaceship as reference material for fixing up Kaiōshin’s own ship. Glorio pauses, and then says it’s his airplane. Bulma thinks it’s a spaceship if it travels through space, but Glorio says it just happened to travel through space this time — it doesn’t normally! If she hurries up, it would be fine to take a look. Kaiōshin tells Goku not to let his guard down, as Glorio shouldn’t know they were kids but didn’t seem surprised. Bulma is good to go after examining the ship, and it should even speed up her repairs. Vegeta announces that he will go with them, but there is only room for three on the plane. Kaiōshin apologies, and suggests that they just follow them afterward when Bulma finishes repairs on his ship.
Glorio, Kaiōshin, and Goku take off in the plane, setting course for the Demon Realm!

Episode Notes
- After the first episode’s lack of traditional opening and ending animation sequences (with the opening song played overtop a scrolling black screen with credits), this episode kicks off the standard opening and ending themes with their own dedicated animation sequences.
Character Names
-
Glorio (グロリオ; Gurorio)
In line with other plant-based names in the series, “Glorio” likely comes from Gloriosa — lilies.
Translation & Language
- The official simulcast English subtitles use a variety of untranslated names/title, translated ones, and ones lifted from legacy English dub changes. These include:
- “Kamesennin” (meaning “Turtle Hermit”) in the same breath as “Master Roshi” (from 武天老師 or Muten Rōshi)
- “Supreme Kai-sama” using the half-translated name of Kaiōshin from FUNimation’s English dub with the honorific for “Lord”
- “Nyoibo” (the “Compliant Rod” taking its name from the Golden-Hooped Compliant Rod in Journey to the West) instead of “Power Pole”
- “Flying Nimbus” from FUNimation’s English dub instead of Kinto’un (the “Somersault Cloud”; another pull from Journey to the West)
- “Karin” finally gets his actual name, as opposed to “Korin” from FUNimation’s English dub
- The Turtle Hermit tells Goku to call him 亀仙人兄貴 (Kame-sen’nin aniki), meaning along the lines of “Big Brother Turtle Hermit”; while not necessarily referring to an actual blood relative (though it can), it’s more of an honorable term referring to a superior (Like a Dragon franchise fans certainly don’t need this explained to them!). This gets adapted in the official simulcast English subtitles as “Big Kamesennin”.
- As in the original series, Goku regularly refers to the Turtle Hermit as じいちゃん (jii-chan), somewhat literally meaning “grandpa” but informally just meaning “gramps” or even “old-timer” in this context, as they are not actual relatives.
- Degesu is referred to as Kaiōshin’s 弟 (otōto), specifically his younger brother.
- As with the first episode, characters refer to Neva and Demon Realm Namekians as ナメック人 (Namekku-jin or just “Namek People”). This is in contrast to what we read and hear back in the original series as ナメック星人 (Namekku-seijin or “People of the Planet Namek”).
- Glorio refers to Dabra as ダーブラ大魔王 (dābra daimaō), or “Great Demon King Dabra”. This is the same 大魔王 used, for example, alongside the Great Demon King Piccolo. English localizations often leave off the 大 (or “Great”) part. In the official simulcast English subtitles, Glorio uses the phrase “Supreme Demon King Dabura”.
- The “Third Demon World” Glorio refers to is spoken in Japanese as 第三魔界 (dai san makai), calling back to the first episode’s note about there being three worlds in the Demon Realm.
- Glorio says that the king of the Third Demon World watched Goku’s battle with Boo on a 魔法のモニター (mahō no monitā), literally a “magic monitor”. This gets adapted in the official simulcast English translation — capitalized seemingly as a proper noun — as “Magic Mirror”. Perhaps this was the translator’s way of making an allusion to the “Magic Mirror” in the Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but in the Japanese dub of the film, the Evil Queen refers to the 鏡の中に閉じ込められた男 (kagami no naka ni tojikome rareta otoko) or “the man trapped in the mirror”, and later just the 魔法の鏡 (mahō no kagami) or literally just the “magic mirror”.
- Glorio refers to his spaceship just as his 飛行機 (hikoki) or “airplane”.
Staff & Cast
- Other than Masako Nozawa still voicing Son Goku and Son Goten, any character turned into a new “Mini” version has been recast, the majority of which are new to the franchise:
- Kaiōshin — Yumiko Kobayashi
- Bulma — Mai Nakahara
- Vegeta — Yūdai Mino
- Piccolo — Tomohiro Yamaguchi
- Kuririn — Aki Kanada
- Chi-Chi — Ai Kakuma
- Turtle Hermit — Nobuaki Kanemitsu
- Trunks — Tsubasa Yonaga
- Dende — Erina Gotō
- Mr. Popo — Kimiko Saitō
- Kibito — Yūsuke Handa
- Mr. Satan — Tōru Sakurai
- Majin Boo — Shiho Amuro
- Despite the majority of the legacy cast being switched to new voice actors for their “Mini” roles, notable characters who keep their existing voice actors include:
- Son Goku / Son Goten — Masako Nozawa
- Shenlong — Ryūzaburō Ōtomo (continued from Daima episode 1; taking over for the original and late Kenji Utsumi after 2013’s Battle of Gods)
- Karin — Ken Uo (taking over for the original and late Ichirō Nagai beginning with Dragon Ball Super)
- Umigame — Takahiro Fujimoto (taking over for the original and late Daisuke Gōri beginning with Dragon Ball Kai)
Animation Alterations
Various scenes were altered in composition, special effects, and/or for content between initial trailers and the final episode broadcast. These include (but are not limited to) the following scenes. The initial trailer scenes are shown below, which you can hover over to view the scene as it was eventually seen within the episode.
-
In the original teaser and subsequent trailer, the wine behind Kaiōshin and Kibito was a red wine next to a green bottle. In the final broadcast episode, this was changed to a white wine from a darker green bottle. The bottles and wine we see with other characters (such as Piccolo) remain unchanged, and are still red.
-
The camera placement of Goten and Trunks as babies rolling around with each other is altered between the original teaser and final broadcast episode, though the drawings and animation themselves remain unchanged.
-
A tiny little shadow to the side of Bulma’s nose is present in the original teaser but removed in the final broadcast episode.
-
The camera position and composition of Goku’s location compared to the pillars in the background as Vegeta yells at him is different between the original teaser and final broadcast episode.
-
Goku himself is completely redrawn as he arrives to greet Karin between the original teaser and final broadcast episode, though nothing else in the scene is changed.
