Following a trickle of initial information — a timeframe followed by a specific release date followed by a price point — Shueisha has updated with a page count and digital release date for the second collected edition of Toyotarō’s Dragon Ball Super manga.

dbs_vol2_page_announce

The actual chapter contents are still unannounced. Picking up where the previous volume left off, chapters 10 through 15 comfortably fit within the announced span of 216 pages; including chapter 16 would push it too far over the allotted number of pages, independent of any potential bonus content. However, this does still leave roughly 50 pages worth of content to fill.

The two-page bonus chapter from the 2016 Jump Victory Carnival attendee booklet seems like a safe bet (considering the 2015 chapter’s inclusion in the first volume), leaving the remaining page space up in the air. The 10-page Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2 comic from the international collector’s edition packages remains unreleased, and could serve as potential filler content. The three 31-page Resurrection ‘F’ introductory chapters from early 2015 also remain unpublished outside of their original V-Jump printings.

The print edition will be released 02 December 2016 for ¥420 + tax. As previously indicated by its Amazon listing, Shueisha has confirmed an 04 January 2017 digital release date. The staggered release between print and digital editions has become common with Shueisha’s collected editions.

The second volume is available for pre-order via CDJapan and Amazon Japan.

The first collected edition was announced back in February and saw its release in April covering the series’ first nine chapters, one spin-off chapter, and a special interview between Toyotarō and original author Akira Toriyama. Since this volume’s release, another eight regular chapters and one more spin-off chapter have been released, with one more regular monthly chapter set to hit V-Jump by this second volume’s December release.

The Dragon Ball Super manga began in June 2015 as a promotional tie-in for the television series. The manga runs monthly in Shueisha’s V-Jump magazine, with the series’ seventeenth chapter printed last month in the magazine’s December 2016 issue. Illustrated by “Toyotarō” (in all likelihood, a second pen-name used by Dragon Ball AF fan manga author and illustrator “Toyble”), the Dragon Ball Super manga covered the Battle of Gods re-telling, skipped the Resurrection ‘F’ re-telling, and “charged ahead” to the Champa arc to act as further promotion for the television series. Viz is currently releasing free digital chapters of the series, and will release their own collected print edition beginning in May 2017.

Shueisha has released the cover artwork for the upcoming fourteenth volume (“Legend 14”) of the Dragon Ball manga’s new “Digest Edition” (Sōshūhen), continuing the “Artificial Humans & Cell arc” in the manga re-release series:

These editions are touted as allowing the reader to “enjoy Dragon Ball the same way as when it was serialized in Jump“, and are the same size as the original Weekly Shōnen Jump serialization (JIS B5; 18.2 × 25.7 cm). The volumes feature an exclusive large foldout poster, the original color pages and titles, promotional slogans, text and logos, and next issue previews at the end of each chapter.

“Legend 14” picks up with Chapter 358, runs 550 pages, and will be released 11 November 2016 for ¥700 plus tax, with the second and fourth Friday of each subsequent month seeing one new volume apiece. “Legend 15” (releasing 25 November 2016) is also available for pre-order (along with several previous releases) via Amazon Japan.

FUNimation has announced their acquisition of the Dragon Ball Super TV series, currently airing on Fuji TV in Japan and seeing multiple simulcast streams across various platforms. FUNimation will simulcast new subtitled episodes on their “FunimationNow” service each Saturday, and will also produce an English dub.

Funimation to Produce English Dub of New Series

LOS ANGELES, CA – November 4, 2016. Building upon their more than 20-year association with the Dragon Ball franchise, Funimation® Entertainment and Toei Animation Inc. have expanded their partnership to include “Dragon Ball Super” – the first new storyline from original creator Akira Toriyama in more than 18 years. Encompassing streaming, digital download and home video distribution, their multi-year agreement will introduce “Dragon Ball Super” throughout the USA & Canada. In addition, the partnership also covers broadcast and merchandising opportunities for “Dragon Ball Super” as well. Fans can immediately begin watching current subtitled episodes of “Dragon Ball Super” (episodes 1 – 10 and 47 – 64) on FunimationNow followed by new simulcast episodes which will begin with episode 65 this Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 8:30 p.m. CT. Episodes 11 – 46 will be available on FunimationNow once subtitling has been completed. In conjunction with the agreement, production will begin on an English dub of the “Dragon Ball Super” series, with broadcast and casting details to follow.

“We are thrilled to continue our great partnership with Toei Animation’” said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and founder of Funimation. “Like with the recent blockbuster Dragon Ball Z movies, having original creator Akira Toriyama passionately involved in ‘Dragon Ball Super’ is so wonderful to see and for fans to experience.”

““We are delighted to introduce ‘Dragon Ball Super’ to a fantastic audience together with Funimation” said Masayuki Endo, President of Toei Animation Inc. “’Dragon Ball Super’ encompasses everything fans love about Dragon Ball, while talking the mythology to a whole new level. Toei’s team of talented animators and creators have put their passion and imagination into this series.”

In late March, FUNimation shared seemingly-random animated GIFs of Goku on their social media channels, which at the time seemed to be (and perhaps always were part of) an Easter tie-in campaign more than anything else.

On March 29, the company shared the new Dragon Ball Super characters’ social media badges alongside the question, “Do you have a favorite champion of Universe 6?”

After that point, the company remained silent on the Dragon Ball Super front, other than asking fans to simply stay tuned for future announcements.

On July 21, English voice actor Jason Douglas (Beerus) posted a photo on Instagram showcasing a recording session with a scene from the first Dragon Ball Super episode; the post was subsequently removed:

The TV series has already been licensed for and is airing in other international territories. Last July, Viz announced their acquisition of the Dragon Ball Super manga, which is currently seeing chapters released for free on the company’s website, with a print release coming in 2017.

Last month, Bandai Namco’s official website for Dragon Ball Discross announced the impending cancellation of the product following its Phase 3 release.

Discross, announced and debuting back in December 2014, allowed players to purchase ¥100 toys from capsule machines to play a specialized arcade game. Bonus toys were also packed in with various magazines and merchandise over the subsequent years.

A promotional manga, Dragon Ball Discross Divine Power God MAX!!, had been running in Shueisha’s bimonthly Saikyō Jump magazine since its March 2015 issue, with the series’ 11th and final chapter published last month in the magazine’s November 2016 issue.

Eagle-eyed NeoGAF community members have noticed a change in the Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2 product listing on Steam: the description of post-launch support has been changed from “for more than a year” (also noting “free updates”) to “for over 6 months”:

xv2_support_timeframe_change_sidebyside

Indeed, an archive.org capture showcases this original text, which was also provided to the press in the original announcement materials back in June, albeit phrased slightly differently at that point (“Updates and post launch support for up to one year”).

The first Dragon Ball XENOVERSE saw three DLC packs released over its lifetime bundled into its $24.99 season pass, with the third and final major pack releasing in June 2015, four months after the game’s original release.

The season pass for Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2, promising “4 content packs” in the future, is available on PC and consoles for $29.99.

Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2 will be available worldwide over the next week for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. In North America, the game launched for consoles 25 October 2016 with a PC release following 28 October 2016. In Europe, the game also launches across all platforms 28 October 2016. In Japan, the game will exclusively launch on the PlayStation 4 console 02 November 2016.

UPDATE: The American branch of Bandai Namco posted the following message to their Facebook page later the same day:

Several of you spotted a sudden change on the Steam description page and we are happy to confirm that this was only a technical mistake: the support on the game will go on as planned for a year!

We have exciting updates coming for the game in the coming months and will share more info on this in the near future, so stay tuned!

Thank you for your support!
