It has been a busy winter for Dragon Ball merchandise, and that trend is only going to continue. March began strong with the final batch of “Full Color” print-edition manga in Japan; more magazines, books, music, and home video releases are already on the horizon. Where applicable, we have included referral links to vendors that we at Kanzenshuu have worked with in the past and have a good relationship with; using these links is a great way to support the website as you make your usual purchases. Let us know if you other international folks have anything else that we can add to the list!

The official website for Dragon Ball Heroes — the five-year-old, still-going-strong, card-based arcade game — has updated with a slew of promotional material for its upcoming “God Mission 7” (“GDM7”) update coming this week in Japan.

The 30-second “GDM7” announcement commercial provides a glimpse of the new cards and abilities coming to the update this week:

The main promotional video, meanwhile, gives a more detailed look at the above:

The “Special Movie” acts as the sort of “opening” theme and animation for the update and showcases the beginning of the “Gods of Destruction Selection Tournament” from Dragon Ball Super before turning its attention to the Ankoku Makai (“Dark Hell” or “Dark Demon Realm”) material with Chronoa, Demigra, and the new God Class-Up avatar form:

The “GDM7” update to Dragon Ball Heroes in Japanese arcades will be released 10 March 2016.

Bandai Namco has announced a forthcoming third content patch for the 2014 Nintendo 3DS game Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission 2 in Japan. The update charges ahead with the Ankoku Makai (“Dark Hell” or “Dark Demon Realm”) chapter currently being explored in the arcade version of the game.

In their own report, Famitsu shares character designs for the four characters the patch will deliver to the 3DS game: Trunks (Xeno), Chronoa, Mira, and Towa:

The game’s previous two major content patches added Resurrection ‘F’ and Super Saiyan 4 characters, respectively.

Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission 2 is available for individual purchase at Play-Asia, or as part of a combo-pack with Extreme Butoden at Play-Asia. A Japanese system is required to play the (region-locked) game.

Following up on their continued licensing of Dragon Ball manga products and other miscellaneous Akira Toriyama works, Glénat has announced their French translation of Shueisha’s Dragon Ball 590 Quiz Book for release in June 2016.

The 590 quiz questions are divided up into various categories, including “Character”, “Story”, “Illustrations”, and more, with a battle power assigned to each question’s difficulty. After completing the quiz, the reader’s final battle power is correlated with one of 11 different characters, ranking their expertise.

The 198-page book will hit French shelves in June 2016 for €7,60.

Japanese band Czecho No Republic has announced that their upcoming single “Forever Dreaming” will take over as the fourth ending theme song for the Dragon Ball Super TV series beginning in April.

forever_dreaming

A CD single for the song is due out 18 May 2016 in two versions: a “Czecho Version” (COZX-1174~5; ¥1700 + tax) and a “Dragon Ball Super” version (COCA-17191; ¥1200 + tax). Each will contain four tracks, with all but the title track undecided at this point in time.

The band previously contributed “Oh Yeah!!!!!!!” as the fifth overall closing theme for the Japanese broadcast of Dragon Ball Kai.

CD singles for the show’s first three ending themes — “Hello Hello Hello” by Good Morning America, “Starring Star” by KEYTALK, and “Light Pink” by LACCO TOWER — have been released. A CD single for the show’s opening theme — “Chōzetsu ☆ Dynamic!” by Kazuya Yoshii — was released 07 October 2015.

In a similar style to their initial “God Mission” trailer from late-2014, Bandai Namco has released a new CG trailer promoting the upgrades coming to avatars in Dragon Ball Heroes. The trailer features our hero characters struggling against Demigra (originally from Dragon Ball XENOVERSE) until the player’s avatar character arrives in his new God Class-Up form.

The “God Mission 7” (“GDM7”) update hits Dragon Ball Heroes arcade machines in Japan next week on 10 March 2016.

Thanks as always to everyone on our forum for keeping up with the game and its ever-increasing list of characters, updates, etc.

The confusion, mystery, and insanity surrounding the production of Dragon Ball Super only seems to escalate with each passing week. Though the first collected edition of Toyotarō’s Dragon Ball Super manga was announced for an April 2016 release earlier this month, its initial listing left much to be desired. The listing has since been updated with two key items of note: a page count (192 pages at the standard tankōbon size) and a digital release date (02 May 2016, approximately one month later than the print release).

dbsuper_manga_listing_update

The actual chapter contents are still unannounced. Within 192 pages, the entirety of chapters one through ten (which will be printed in next month’s issue of V-Jump prior to the collected volume’s release) could be contained at a perfect 192 pages (including both the first and fifth chapters’ special title pages), assuming the upcoming tenth chapter jumps back down to only 19 pages in length. On the flipside, by including the three 31-page Resurrection ‘F’ manga chapters, up through Dragon Ball Super chapter six could all perfectly fit at exactly 192 pages by perhaps excising the fifth chapter’s special title page.

The Dragon Ball Super manga skipped the Freeza revival arc in order to “charge ahead” with the Champa arc.

The first volume will see its print release in Japan 04 April 2016 for ¥400 + tax and is currently available for pre-order via Amazon Japan.

“Toyotarō” is, in all likelihood, a second pen-name used by Dragon Ball AF fan manga author and illustrator “Toyble”.

Today’s thirty-third episode has revealed that episode director Morio Hatano (畑野森生) has been appointed the new role of series director alongside Kimitoshi Chioka (地岡公俊). This comes just shortly following the announcement that scriptwriter King Ryū had been named the series composer for the Dragon Ball Super TV series beginning with the “God of Destruction Champa” story arc.

Series Director: Morio Hatano & Kimitoshi Chioka

Note that original series director Kimitoshi Chioka is now credited second after Morio Hatano, indicating that Chioka is taking a step back in his responsibilities and Hatano is stepping into the lead role as series director. The addition of a second series director typically occurs when the lead series director has become too busy with other significant projects or is in need of assistance managing and overseeing the series. However, it is not common for the additional director to immediately assume the lead director position, so this sudden change is rather significant.

Morio Hatano has directed Dragon Ball Super episodes 6 and 14, both of which he storyboarded himself. In addition to directing several episodes of Digimon Savers, One Piece, and Marvel’s Disk Wars: Avengers, Hatano has been largely involved with the recent PreCure and Saint Seiya franchises. His sole series director credit to date has been for the first half of the Saint Seiya Omega animated TV series produced by Toei Animation between 2012 and 2014.

Thanks to JacobYBM for catching this.

Veteran voice actor Ryūsei Nakao returns to Dragon Ball Super as the voice of Frost from Universe 6, as heard and credited in today’s thirty-third episode of the television series.

Nakao, most well-known as the voice of Freeza, has also played the roles of Tambourine, Coola, Chilled, and Kuriza in various Dragon Ball features and video games. Nakao was most recently heard in Dragon Ball Super itself as Freeza.

Of the Universe 6 competitors, only Magetta and Hit remain unvoiced and uncredited thus far; Botamo and Cabba were revealed to be voiced by Yasuhiro Takato and Daisuke Kishio, respectively, during last week’s episode.
