Kanzenshuu – The Podcast

Your one and only Dragon Ball podcast!

Our “weekly” podcast, then named Daizenshuu EX – The Podcast, began in November 2005 as a new way to reach out to our audience, extend that audience, and simply have fun with the franchise we love so much. Though we updated the name to Kanzenshuu – The Podcast in April 2012 with the launch of this website, we remain the best, most authoritative, entertaining, and only Dragon Ball podcast you will ever need!

Each episode, the Kanzenshuu staff discuss the latest news in the world of Dragon Ball from across the globe before heading into a core topic — whether it be an in-depth discussion of the way in which the story and franchise was produced, theories for in-universe scenarios and “What If?” scenes, interviews with those actually involved with the franchise, thorough reviews of video games or home video releases, we have you covered! We wrap things up with the month’s upcoming releases, questions from the listeners, and much more! We regularly have contests, broadcast live (watch our Twitter and Facebook!), and have a great time sharing our love of the Dragon Ball franchise with you all each and every week.

Special Podcast Episode: DBZ Video Game Music #1 — 26 May 2013

This week on the show we are taking a break from our usual news and topical discussions to dip into the past a little bit and share some stories. We love the music from the series here at Kanzenshuu, but we also love the franchise’s video game music. For a bunch of us over a certain age, discovering this almost alternate world of Dragon Ball music was this amazing, strange, new world of extended fandom. We brought on a whole slew of friends and special guests to tell these stories of how they discovered the music and what the songs meant to them (and still do mean to them!). Please enjoy this jump into our collective fandom’s history, as well as the songs that defined our younger years.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
The Kanzenshuu crew brings on an incredible group of special guests to dive into the Dragon Ball franchise’s rich history of video game music. What were some of the songs that defined our early fandom, and why do they still mean so much to us? Our focus is up through the 32-bit era, so join us for a history lesson and some rockin’ tunes!

Enjoy! Discuss this episode on the Kanzenshuu forum. We would love to hear what some of your own picks are from this era of video games!

Podcast Episode #0334 — 20 May 2013

As we get ready to head down to Animazement this coming weekend, we figured it would be a good time to reflect on just how busy of a month May is. We don’t mean busy for us — we mean busy for the Dragon Ball characters! The Tenka’ichi Budōkai taking place in May each time it comes around might just be why so many things happen in that one particular month. Tournaments? Check. Assault on an army? Check. Demon King returns? Check. Time travel complications? Check.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0334! VegettoEX and Hujio dive into the timeline and history of the Dragon World in an attempt to figure out why just about everything in the series happens during the month of May. Does Toriyama hate winter, or does the Tenka’ichi Budōkai taking place in May just set the stage for the entire series? “Ultimate Mission” 3DS sales and your questions round out the episode!

Podcast Episode #0332 — 30 April 2013

Back on Episode #0324 of our podcast, we gave you a wonderful look into the interview and testing process as well as the overall experience our own Julian had trying out for Hoko x Tate, the Japanese show that pits expert fans against expert production staff in a maniacal battle of geekery.

The actual episode itself aired this past March, and while Julian did not make the final cut as one of the four contestants, he was still able to attend the screening, meet fans and production staff alike, and is here to tell the tale! Take the quiz along with us — you are on the honor system, though, so no looking up answers or referring to anything until the end. Click on through to our episode’s discussion thread on the forum for all of the answers and let us know how you did!

Podcast Episode #0331 — 22 April 2013

With the post-Battle of Gods news and content coverage slowing down and giving us a chance to breathe, we decided to catch up with a bunch of your questions this week on the show. Long-time buddy Kirbopher plays co-host duty with VegettoEX to discuss everything from Kame-Sen’nin’s choice of beer to the eventuality of Battle of Gods home releases.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0331! VegettoEX and Kirbopher take a breather and answer a slew of listener questions. There is always (still!) something fun to discuss about “Battle of Gods” but the rest of the questions head off into tons of different directions, as well, most important of which is determining Kame-Sen’nin’s beer of choice.

Podcast Episode #0330 — 15 April 2013

A new series was NOT announced!
This podcast episode is about using critical thinking skills to debunk rumors. There was no press conference, Akira Toriyama would not personally animate anything, and no new series is coming! Join us in the fight against bad Dragon Ball information.

It’s true! I heard it from a friend! On the Internet! Akira Toriyama is totally animating a new Dragon Ball series even though Toriyama is not an animator and it will be over 200 episodes and he announced it at a press conference even though he didn’t even show his face on TV last time he was on and it is because the movie did so well even though the announcement was supposedly made before the movie actually premiered in theaters and…

Heard this one before?

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0330! VegettoEX and Julian give fandom a lesson in critical thinking with regard to new Dragon Ball announcements. There is always a random new rumor floating around, but we took the opportunity to break this one down – that Akira Toriyama supposedly appeared at a press conference to announce a new 200-episode series – to its humble beginnings and how a game of telephone can contort and twist misinformation into even worse misinformation.

Podcast Episode #0329 — 08 April 2013

As the new film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods continues to hold steady in theaters, we felt it was proper to continue diving into all of the reference materials coming out these days — guide books, magazine articles, website interviews, etc. — to get a better idea of where the movie actually came from. So many ideas were drafted and tossed out before the final stages of production that we almost have an entirely different story sitting out there in the unused ether. Join us for an in-depth look at some of these ideas and where the story could have taken us!

For those of you who may also wish to refer to this material in text form, the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods page in our “Movie Guide” has been updated with an “Original Draft/Design Concepts” section which includes a few tidbits we have yet to post in full over in our “Translations” section!

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0329! VegettoEX, Hujio, and Julian dive into a wealth of reference materials for the new film “Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods” and attempt to discover where the film’s story truly came from. While the final result was fantastic, imagine an alternate version with a lizard-esque villain, Super Saiyan God with a cape, a wedding instead of a birthday party, and a far darker story than has ever been told before!

Podcast Episode #0328 — 30 March 2013

It may have shifted to a brand new day over in Japan, but for the rest of us slumming it up without the movie, it is still technically Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods day…! We have been bringing you news, photos, and more since its debut this past morning, and we are not done just quite yet: it’s podcast time!

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0328! Julian makes the entire English-speaking world jealous with his tales of checking out the new film “Battle of Gods” on its opening day in Japan. Podcast Episode #0327 — 18 March 2013

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is simultaneously “done” and still a few weeks away! Preview screenings have started, which in turn means — at least for those of us who cannot sleep without knowing every single detail — the entirety of the plot and the movie’s secrets are out there. While we still want to wait to go see the movie for ourselves 30 March 2013, we also wanted to dive into “spoilerific” material for the rest of you crazy folks, so we took it upon ourselves to do the math and figure out in exactly which Age the movie could (at least theoretically) take place. For the rest of you that are not quite ready to head into movie-spoiler territory, we also have some early impressions on Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission for the Japanese Nintendo 3DS.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0327! VegettoEX, Hujio, and Julian dive head-first into “Battle of Gods” and do the math in ways that perhaps even the movie’s producers could not do: in which Age would this movie take place along the main timeline? Those wishing to avoid spoilers for a little while longer can still tune in for our early impressions on “Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission” for the Japanese Nintendo 3DS with Herms!
