The "Human-type" section of Daizenshuu 4: World Guide (p. 66)

The most numerous kind of Earthling is the general "human-type" (人間型; ningen-gata)[1], making up 75% of all Earthlings as of Age 784[2]. For the most part they have no unique powers, but there are those who have acquired exceptional abilities.

Manga Characters

The following characters appear in Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga series.

Aerobics Woman (エアロビの女の人)
Japanese VA: Unknown
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 24 / Dragon Ball Episode 14

She is the aerobics instructor on the workout show "Wide-Thigh Aerobics", which the Turtle Hermit is distracted watching when Son Goku arrives at Kame House to begin his training. To get the master's attention, Goku screams in his ear.

Blind Boy (盲目の少年)
Japanese VA: Megumi Hayashibara (DBZ), Hōko Kuwashima (Kai)
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 478 / Dragon Ball Z Episode 249

A blind boy who went to the grocery store to buy milk, only to find them all closed because of the terror being caused by Majin Boo. On his way back home he meets Majin Boo, who is upset that the boy cannot see him and be scared, and so he heals his eyes. The boy is very grateful, and Boo is surprised at feeling joy in doing something other than killing.

Bora (ボラ)

First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 84 / Dragon Ball Episode 58

The guardian of the Karin Holy Land, and Upa's father. He handily defeats all the Red Ribbon soldiers who invade the land in search of the Dragon Ball located there, but is effortlessly killed by Tao Pai-pai. Goku revives him with the Dragon Balls, making him the first person to be brought back to life like this. He later helps Yajirobe and Goku get to the top of Karin Tower, and contributes energy to Goku's final Genki-Dama against Majin Boo.

Brief, Doctor (ブリーフ博士)

First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 69 / Dragon Ball Episode 44

Bulma's father, and the founder of Capsule Corporation. He invented the Hoi Poi Capsule, one of the series' most distinctive and iconic items. A brilliant but highly eccentric man, he lets stray animals roam free in his house, and has quite the porn collection.

Bulma (ブルマ)

First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 1 / Dragon Ball Episode 1

An intelligent and spirited young girl in search of the seven Dragon Balls. She uses state-of-the-art technology, such as the Dragon Radar and Hoi Poi Capsules, to track them down. In search of the Dragon Balls, which she wants to use to wish for a boyfriend, she stumbles upon Goku, who she decides to take with her as a bodyguard.

Bulma's Mom (ブルマの母)

Bulma's eternally youthful and shut-eyed mother. Somewhat of a ditz, she drives her daughter crazy with inappropriate questions and attempts to hit on Bulma's male friends. She lives at the Capsule Corporation headquarters in West City with her husband, Dr. Brief.

Erasa (イレーザ)
Japanese VA: Megumi Urawa
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 421 / Dragon Ball Z Episode 200

A flirtatious classmate of Son Gohan's at Orange Star High School in Satan City, she is a social butterfly and best friends with Videl. She quickly befriends Gohan, asking him to sit by her in class, and introduces him to Videl, telling him her father is Mister Satan.

Farmer (牧場のおやじ)
Japanese VA: Ginzō Matsuo (Z), Kei'ichi Sonobe (Kai)
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 195 / Dragon Ball Z Episode 1

While working in the fields, he witnesses Raditz's arrival on Earth. After investigating the situation he panics and fires his gun at the mysterious alien warrior, who merely catches the bullet with his bare hand and flicks it back, killing him.

Fortuneteller Crone (占いババ)

First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 98 / Dragon Ball Episode 69

She is the Turtle Hermit's older sister, and a brilliant fortune teller. Her divinations are always right on the mark, and she can even predict the future most of the time. By King Enma's command, she fills the position of bridging the gap between the Afterlife and the Living World. In addition to that, she can return a dead person to the Living World for one day, but only once. "The Fortuneteller Crone" is just a nickname, and her real name is unknown.

Girl Who Oolong Was After (ウーロンが狙った娘)
Japanese VA: Chieko Honda
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 5 / Dragon Ball Episode 4

An inhabitant of the village Oolong terrorizes, she is betrothed to marry him. Dressed like her, Goku attempts to trick Oolong, but their plan is discovered when Goku pees on a nearby tree. However, he still easily defeats Oolong, preventing the marriage and saving the village.

Grandma Paozu (パオズばあちゃん)
Japanese VA: Reiko Suzuki
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 5 / Dragon Ball Episode 4

An inhabitant of the village that Oolong terrorizes, she possesses the Six-Star Ball that Goku and Bulma are in search of. In exchange for saving her village from the dreaded Oolong, she promises to give Bulma her Dragon Ball.

Hedge (ヘッジ)
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 5 / Dragon Ball Episode 4

A young girl kidnapped by Oolong. She is rescued by Son Goku and Bulma during their first hunt for the Dragon Balls.

Hogg (ホッグ)
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 5 / Dragon Ball Episode 4

A young girl kidnapped by Oolong. She is rescued by Son Goku and Bulma during their first hunt for the Dragon Balls.

Idasa's Mom (イダーサママ)
Japanese VA: Hiroko Emori
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 432 / Dragon Ball Z Episode 210

A rude and arrogant woman wearing a signature pair of Zamas glasses, she is the mother of Idasa and Ikose who participate in the Youth Division of the 25th Tenka'ichi Budōkai. She cannot believe Idasa has to fight such a pipsqueak like Trunks, which angers Bulma, until Trunks effortlessly defeats Idasa.

Jingle Village Mayor (ジングル村の村長)

First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 66 / Dragon Ball Episode 38

He is the mayor of the Northern village where Sno lives. He is taken hostage by the Red Ribbon Army and imprisoned within Muscle Tower, but Goku storms the tower and frees him with the help of Artificial Human No. 8. The mayor takes a liking to No. 8, and adopts him as his own son.

Lee (リー)
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 5 / Dragon Ball Episode 4

A young girl kidnapped by Oolong. She is rescued by Son Goku and Bulma during their first hunt for the Dragon Balls.

Lunch (ランチ)
Japanese VA: Mami Koyama
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 26 / Dragon Ball Episode 15

The Turtle Hermit sends Kuririn and Goku off to bring back a pichi-pichi gal, and the two eventually rescue and return with a peculiar girl... Lunch. The boys soon find that she's much more than meets the eye, as her other self is revealed when she sneezes.

Mai (マイ)
Japanese VA: Eiko Yamada
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 18 / Dragon Ball Episode 1

A servant of Pilaf, she serves him without question (unless Pilaf is going to do something very stupid, which happens often). She always works with Shuu and although she's pretty bright, they both always manage to screw up Pilaf's best laid plans.

Marron (マーロン)
Japanese VA: Tomiko Suzuki (Z, GT), Naoko Watanabe (JSAT, DBZ: Battle of Gods), Hiroko Ushida (Kai)
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 426 / Dragon Ball Z Episode 205

The daughter of Kuririn and No. 18, she was born following the battle with Cell. She resembles her father with her round eyes and friendly expression, while she takes after her mother with her blonde hair. Unfortunately, it seems that she did not inherit her father or mother's fighting stock. When she was little she had no nose, like her father, but she grew a nose when she reached puberty.

Rabbit Gang Member (ウサギ団団員)
Japanese VA: Masaharu Satō
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 16 / Dragon Ball Episode 9

After seeing his comrade defeated and getting the Nyoi-Bō shoved up his butt by Goku, he calls "The Carrotizor" for help. Finally gaining the upper-hand, he is handily defeated once again by [[]Yamch]a. In the end, he is placed on the moon by Goku with his comrades.

Rabbit Gang Member (ウサギ団団員)
Japanese VA: Issei Futamata
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 16 / Dragon Ball Episode 9

Bulma tells Goku to beat up the gang members, since they're bad guys and they're flirting with her. After getting kicked around by both Goku and Yamcha, the now defeated Rabbit Gang must live out their lives pounding mochi on the moon.

Shapner (シャプナー)
Japanese VA: Hiro Yūki (Z), Mitsuaki Madono (Kai)
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 421 / Dragon Ball Z Episode 200

Shapner is a popular student at Orange Star High School and one of Gohan's classmates. He makes fun of Gohan when he first comes to the school, calling him a bookworm, but Gohan shocks him with athletic skills while playing baseball in gym class.

Sherman Priest (シャーマン・プリースト)
Japanese VA: Ryōichi Tanaka
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 5 / Dragon Ball Episode 4

An inhabitant of the village Oolong terrorizes, his daughter is betrothed to marry Oolong. Thinking Goku is Oolong coming to take his daughter away, he attacks Goku as he enters his house. After hearing the story of Oolong, Bulma volunteers Goku to save his daughter and the village in exchange for the Dragon Ball.

Sno (スノ)
Japanese VA: Naoko Watanabe (DB), Mayumi Tanaka (Z 285)
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 56 / Dragon Ball Episode 34

A girl from Jingle Village that saves Goku's life after his plane crashes into the snow. In gratitude, Goku sets off to rescue the mayor of her village, who has been taken hostage by the Red Ribbon Army. Years later, a grown-up Sno contributes her energy to the final Genki-Dama at the end of the series. It's at this point that her name is first mentioned in the manga proper, although she's called by name in the anime from the start.

Sno's Father (スノの父)

Like the other men in Jingle Village, Sno's father is forced to search for the nearby Dragon Ball by the Red Ribbon Army after they threaten to kill the village's mayor if they resisted.

Sno's Mother (スノの母)

First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 57 / Dragon Ball Episode 35

Sno's mother is a kindhearted woman who helps Son Goku recover after he nearly freezes to death in the snow. She worries about him going off to attack Muscle Tower, fearing that he will be killed.

Upa (ウパ)
Japanese VA: Mitsuko Horie (DB), Masafumi Ōkura (Z 13), Naoko Watanabe (DBZ: Idainaru Son Gokū Densetsu)
First Appears: Dragon Ball Chapter 84 / Dragon Ball Episode 58

Bora's young son, he is taken hostage by Colonel Yellow in an attempt to get Bora to surrender. Luckily, Goku happens by and rescues him, and they quickly become friends. After Goku is defeated by Tao Pai-pai, Upa advises him to climb Karin Tower to get stronger. Upa later goes with Goku to the Fortuneteller Crone's palace, and teams up with Pu'er to defeat Dracula Man. After Bora is revived, Upa promises to try and live each day as bravely and energetically as Goku. Years later, he contributes his energy to the final Genki-Dama during the battle with Majin Boo, by at which point he is grown-up with a wife and child.

Anime Original Characters

The following characters are original to Toei Animation's animated adaptation based on Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga series.

Angela (エンジェラ)
Japanese VA: Kumiko Nishihara
First Appears: Dragon Ball Z Episode 202

A student at Orange Star High School who has a cat-like personality, being assertive but having her feelings change constantly. She happened to be on the school roof when Gohan was changing back from his Great Saiyaman outfit. Gohan thinks that she has discovered his secret identity, and so he reluctantly goes out with her on his first date. However, it turns out that she knows nothing of his secret identity, but saw that he was wearing baby bear underwear.

Bourbon (バーボン)
Japanese VA: Hirohiko Kakegawa
First Appears: Dragon Ball Z Episode 170

The man in charge of Chazuke Village, he deviously collects money from the villagers in order to construct a domed shelter from Cell. He plots to charge a high entry fee to refugees from the nearby larger cities and make a hefty profit for himself.

Bun (ブン)
Japanese VA: Daiki Nakamura
First Appears: Dragon Ball Z Episode 39

A boy traveling with a group of orphaned children in a mirror-covered spaceship. His parents were killed before his eyes when his home planet was attacked by Freeza's army, for whom he now holds an intense hatred. Thinking that Gohan and the others are Freeza's underlings, he advises they be killed immediately.

Chao (チャオ)
Japanese VA: Yuriko Yamamoto
First Appears: Dragon Ball Episode 79

A resident of a poor village that is terrorized by the two outlaw brothers Kinkaku and Ginkaku for food. She has a strong sense of responsibility, and leaves in search of a strong person to save her village from the evil brothers. In the midst of her journey, she was about to be eaten by a tiger, but was saved by Goku, who happened to be passing through. Seeing Goku easily defeat the tiger, she asks him to come to her village.

Chu Lee (チューリー)
Japanese VA: Tomiko Suzuki
First Appears: Dragon Ball Episode 127

A girl from the village at the foot of Goro-Goro Mountain, where God sent Goku as part of his training before the 23rd Tenka'ichi Budōkai. She saves Goku after he is struck by lightning and loses consciousness.

Cynthia (シンシア)
Japanese VA: Yōko Kawanami
First Appears: Dragon Ball Z Episode 125

Cynthia is a teacher at the air car training facility which Goku and Piccolo attended at the request of Chi-Chi. She is beautiful and stylish, but her personality completely changes the moment she takes the wheel, becoming a reckless speed demon.

Elderly Scholar (老学者)
Japanese VA: Jōji Yanami
First Appears: Dragon Ball Episode 150

In order to revive the Fire-Eating Bird, said to be extinct, he continues his research alone inside the caves of Mount Kiui. He installs a large incubation device inside the cave in order to incubate the remaining egg laid by the Fire-Eating Bird. He cries with joy after seeing the living Fire-Eating Bird reappear and safely retrieve its chick.

Emmy (エミー)
Japanese VA: Junko Shimakata
First Appears: Dragon Ball Z Episode 40

Her home planet was destroyed by Freeza's army, and so she fled with the other children on a mirror-covered spaceship to find a safe planet. She mistook Gohan and the others, who were on their way to Planet Namek, for some of Freeza's underlings. She always carries around as stuffed animal.

King Wonton (TBD)
First Appears: Dragon Ball Episode 80

The king of an unknown Chinese-inspired kingdom. King Wonton holds an Imperial Match between two rival martial arts schools in his kingdom; Son Goku fought in the match representing the Chin-Star school, successfully defeating their rival the Leopard-Fang School during his training for the 22nd Tenka'ichi Budōkai.

Lime (ライム)

First Appears: Dragon Ball Z Episode 170

A young girl whose parents were killed by Imperfect Cell during his attack on Chazke Village. She is first rescued by Gohan after falling from a tree, but they meet again when she tricks some thugs to leave her grandfather and Gohan alone by calling out that Cell had arrived. She later caused a stampede at the Shelter Dome and revealed Bourbon's true nature to the people.

Queen Harumaki (TBD)
First Appears: Dragon Ball Episode 80

The wife of King Wonton, she attended the Imperial Match between Son Goku and Tenlong during Goku's training for the 22nd Tenka'ichi Budōkai.

Rock (ロック)
Japanese VA: Masaharu Satō
First Appears: Dragon Ball Z Episode 203

The leader of the Red Shark Gang. The gang took the mayor of Satan City hostage and challenged Mister Satan to come save him, but Satan stayed hidden in his attic. Videl came in his place and defeated Rock, while the Great Saiyaman rounded up all the gang members.

Vodka (ウォッカ)
Japanese VA: Kōzō Shioya
First Appears: Dragon Ball Episode 92 (unnamed) / Dragon Ball Z Episode 174 (named)

Originally a con-artist and minor criminal that aided Panput in his martial arts career, he eventually rose to become the "emperor of gangsters" and sought power by collecting the dragon balls until he was defeated (quite by accident) by Son Goku.
