Episode Summary
Opening
When seven magic Dragon Balls are collected and the password is recited, a dragon named Shenlong appears to grant the summoner any wish.
Son Goku is an incredible warrior who lived in the mountains as a child, searched for the Dragon Balls while going on many adventures, and grew into adulthood with his new friends.
One day a vicious battle race called the Saiyans arrived on Earth — it seems that Goku was himself a Saiyan that had been sent to Earth as an infant. Saiyans maintain a youthful body for much of their lives.
Throughout his life, Goku continued to face terrifying enemies and overcome these challenges to protect Earth. Now the Earth faces a new threat…
Part A
Majin Koo introduces himself to Tamagami Number One and makes his intentions known: he is here for the Dragon Ball! The fight begins with Koo striking a series of wild poses and rushing in with quick attacks. The Tamagami dodges each, forcing Koo on the defensive. Koo charges up a ki blast, which he erupts over his head and guides back down toward the Tamagami… who slices it away.
Meanwhile, Glorio and the others make it to the next Warp-sama transfer station. With their new PIN of 1022 (and another quick bit of magic to make Goku’s ears pointy), and despite a little pushback from Small Warp-sama about their identity, they’re on their way — apparently Panzy’s story about being military family is good enough. Kaiōshin wonders about simply going to the First Demon World since they have the opportunity now, but Goku and Glorio agree that going after the next Dragon Ball in the Second Demon World remains the best course of action. Goku is still worried about Dende, but Kaiōshin reminds them that Gomah and the others kidnapped Dende alive, so they clearly have an intended use for him. With that, they’re on their way!
Hybis and the second group of Earthlings recovered their plane, so they are likewise back on track. Bulma is still infatuated with her baby-smooth skin, which even Hybis takes note of. Bulma thinks maybe it’s OK if she never becomes an adult again. Hybis thinks she could be his girlfriend. Vegeta reacts harshly to this, saying they’re married… but Hybis doesn’t mind (and notes that Bulma married a guy with funny hair). Vegeta can’t stand being a brat any longer, but Bulma wonders if he should just ask to be turned back to an adult all on his own. Vegeta says they’re turning back together, which prompts Hybis to ask if Vegeta likes big boobs. Vegeta screams back at Hybis, and Piccolo figures this was a correct assessment.
Koo continues his assault on the Tamagami, but is not making much progress. Even with his giant whirlwind rush, Koo is just grabbed and tossed aside. With a few more flashy movements, Koo closes in with more direct punches, wrapping up with a mouth blast from the sky. Arinsu smiles!
Glorio and the others finally arrive in the Second Demon World! They’re able to fly much faster here since the air isn’t as dense. What’s even better is that they’re near the next Tamagami, so they’ll be there soon. Kaiōshin wonders if there are still kraken here; Glorio confirms there are. If they accidentally fly too low, they’re in danger of being eaten. Panzy has heard of them — they’re supposed to be huge with claws and… the military police has found them! A series of five plans all close in and open fire. Glorio tries to evade and counterattack, but he’s not used to this kind of maneuvering. Their plane gets hit, so Goku hops out and starts his open-air assault on the planes. With all of them taken out, Goku flies himself back to their own plane.
Gomah and Degesu watch this all unfold from the monitors at their headquarters. They have severely underestimated these guys, and Gomah requests all the military police gather here in the First Demon World before it’s too late.
One of the kraken makes its move, emerging from the water and initially looking like it will eat them, but fakes them out and instead grabs the entire plane with one of its tentacles. Goku and the others all fly out of the captured plane, but Panzy flies back at the last second. She begins to get crushed inside, so Goku flies back to grab her. Just when it seems like the kraken has eaten them whole, Goku and Panzy fly out of the kraken’s mouth. Seemingly satisfied, the kraken makes its way back underwater. Kaiōshin finally realizes that they’ve lost the Dragon Ball… but that’s what Panzy went back for! Gomah thought he finally had a win under his belt, but alas… Kaiōshin wonders if they should just wait for Vegeta and the others now, and Glorio agrees. Goku figures he should have left at least one plane intact! Kaiōshin notes that the planet where the Nameks used to live should still be floating nearby, so they will gather and wait there.
Part B
The Tamagami is completely unharmed from Koo’s blast, much to even Arinsu’s surprise. Koo tries to attack again, but is flung into a wall. The Tamagami keeps appearing directly beside Koo, keeping him on the defensive.
Goku remarks that this planet looks just like Planet Namek. Kaiōshin thinks it must have taken a lot of effort to leave and rebuild, especially with the trees. Goku remembers that Freeza ended up destroying it all… but is distracted by how hungry he is. Glorio says he has to suck it up, and it hasn’t been long since breakfast anyway. Goku takes out his Revive Bugs and knows they restore your stamina, but do they also satiate hunger? Panzy says this isn’t how they work, but Goku has three and wants to try one. It tastes gross, but he feels great, and even a little more full now! It seems like no-one lives here anymore, especially with all the dirty water — nothing has changed since the Nameks left. Goku suddenly hunches over, and can tell that Vegeta and the others have arrived; he flies off to meet them.
Bulma thinks this new area doesn’t feel like the Demon World at all, and that Piccolo must have missed this place; he wouldn’t know, since he himself never lived here. Vegeta can tell “Kakarot” is here, but Hybis sees Goku. It’s weird that he has two names, but whatever. Goku keeps gesticulating out the main window, but no-one has any idea what he’s trying to say. Piccolo finally has them open the door, and Goku warns them about the kraken. Vegeta scoffs it off a little bit… until one pops out of the water and they get a look at just how huge it is. They fly higher and faster to escape, and Goku remarks they aren’t a match for that kraken the way they are right now. Bulma yells at Hybis for not doing something about it earlier, but it’s his first time here — don’t blame him! Goku wasn’t necessarily here to warn them about the kraken, though; his group needs a ride since they lost their plane to a kraken earlier!
Koo is out of breath, and the Tamagami seems rather disinterested. Koo stands up, apologizes, concedes, and returns to Arinsu for another apology! The two take off in Arinsu’s plane while military police finally arrive on the scene, confident they heard some kind of commotion here earlier… but everything is quiet and the Tamagami has returned to his pedestal. Arinsu is completely disappointed in Koo; he’s fired! Koo thinks she should reconsider, since he’s still pretty strong, but he’s also a good singer, pretty fast, and can be helpful if she sends him shopping.
Hybis lands on this Namek homeland, and the group is reunited again. Piccolo thinks this place feels familiar and pleasant, even if he personally has no memories of it. Kaiōshin reflects that it must have been hard for them, since they had so many unique abilities, and the Demon Kings regarded them as quite valuable… almost like slaves. Panzy says that “Nahare” here was also from the Second Demon World too, right? Bulma wonders what “Nahare” is, so Goku explains that it’s Kaiōshin’s real name. Bulma follows up on the fact that he’s one of the beings that escaped from the Demon Realm — why was that? Kaiōshin says it’s a long story, so Goku thinks they don’t need to hear it; Bulma presses on, though.
Long ago, the good Great Demon King wanted to expand the Demon Realm. He ordered the powerful “Super Majin Rymus” to create the universe — Rymus is still the highest authority. Various universes were created, and the Majin began moving to those universes. Rymus then chose a select few from among the Glind who were then sent out to monitor the universe as Kaiōshin. Bulma asks if this means that every being in the universe is therefore technically a descendant of the Majin. This is not necessarily the case, according to Kaiōshin; for example, Earthlings and Saiyans came after their universe was created. After this, many of the Glind moved to a planet near Rymus. Back then, Warp-sama was able to be used to freely move between realms. Dabra’s predecessor, Abra, feared outside threats, and was the one to enact the limits on Warp-sama usage. Kaiōshin was still in the Demon Realm at the time, but says that most of the remaining Glind revolted against Abra and escaped to the outside world. It was after this time that he was chosen as Kaiōshin. At Goku’s prompting, Kaiōshin goes on to explain to Bulma that Glind are born from five Glind Trees; however, all of these trees died, and so with no reason to stay here, it ultimately led to them leaving for the outside world. Bulma realizes this means the Glind will eventually die out, which Kaiōshin confirms. Hybis, catching on that Kaiōshin is a Glind, thinks he’s pretty smart, just like Degesu and Arinsu; Panzy confirms they’re all siblings. Hybis thinks they must have all fought over snacks — anyway, they may be Glind, but they’re not very nice. Bulma wonders if Kaiōshin wants to visit his home planet, but he says there’s nothing left there anymore, and they should move on instead. Vegeta is eager to hurry on to the next Tamagami to get its Dragon Ball. The group all load onto Hybis’ ship, and Bulma thinks Glorio should pilot; it’s Hybis’ first time here after all.
Neva slowly walks his way toward the ship, smiling…

- When Shin/Nahare describes that certain Glinds were selected to monitor the various universes as Kaiōshin, several familiar faces first seen in Dragon Ball Super make an appearance (roughly from left-to-right-top to bottom):

- When the official simulcast English subtitles later refer to Abra as “Dabra’s predecessor,” Dabra is not specifically named in the Japanese dialog; this is inferred by them referring to “the previous Great Demon King Abra” (先々代のアーブラ大魔王). That said, we already know from the first episode that Abra was Dabra’s father and directly preceded him.
- Though Shin/Nahare does mention he was chosen for the role of Kaiōshin, it was not necessarily in the initial batch. While not shown or explicitly referred to in this scene, this does at least seem to leave enough appropriate wiggle-room to explain the Elder Kaiōshin, who pre-dates Shin as the Eastern Kaiōshin from 15 generations ago.
Character & Location Names

Abra (アーブラ; ābura)
First spoken aloud during Gomah and Degesu’s early conversation during episode 1, and seen in the opening theme but not yet technically confirmed with a named visual until this episode, Dabra’s father’s name is sourced from the same magical phrase: “Abracadabra” (アブラカダブラ; aburakadabura). Based on his design — or perhaps vice versa — there is the possibility that his name is inspired by “lard/fat” (脂; abura), and/or perhaps even “oil” (油; abura) which would nicely line up with Gomah’s name being sourced from “sesame”: combined, this gives us “sesame oil” (ごま油; goma abura). Another character named “Abra” (アブラ; abura) appears in Toyotarō’s Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission manga series, spelled without the extended first syllable. -
Rymus (ライムス; raimusu)
The name of the universe-creating “Super Majin” has a few potential sources. It’s possible that the name is an intentional anagram of “slime” (スライム; suraimu), the name of the cute little monster generally first encountered in each Dragon Quest game, designed by Akira Toriyama. It’s also possible that the name adds an additional syllable to “lime” (ライム; raimu). In either case, there is a slight resemblance in the head/face design. Kaiōshin later refers to Rymus with the –sama (“lord” or “king”) honorific. Rymus’ large belt features the katakana symbol ラ (ra), the first syllable from their name. Depending on the source, and based on the original Japanese pronunciation, alternate and valid transliterations/spellings could include options such as “Raimus” or “Laimus” or “Limus”.

Kraken (クラーケン; kurāken)
Originally sourced from Norwegian and the legends likely inspired by giant squid, “kraken” is spoken aloud as-is with its Japanese pronunciation. -
You’re Fired (おまえはクビだよ; omae wa kubida yo)
Arinsu uses the fairly standard phrase for “You’re fired/dismissed/sacked” when berating Majin Koo in the plane. She follows this sentence up with a pointed クビ (kubi; the same fired/dismissed/sacked) all by itself. -
Super Majin (超魔人; chō majin)
Kaiōshin explains that a “Super Majin” (or “Super Demon”) with incredible powers is tasked with creating the universe. Here “super” is 超 read with its normal pronunciation of chō; this is the same kanji used in “Super Saiyan” (超サイヤ人) where it instead has furigana overhead indicating a pronunciation of the English word “super”. -
“Highest Authority” vs. Other Options
When describing Rymus, Kaiōshin states: 今でも宇宙で一番、お偉い方です. The key phrase here is 偉い (erai), which doesn’t necessarily mean “highest authority”; to be more explicit in that description, this likely would have been written using the phrase 権限 (kengen). As such, the actual dialogue in the show could also be more generally translated as “most distinguished” without implying the actual hierarchical “authority” of Rymus within the god rankings. - Person/They
In the same explanation, Kaiōshin simply refers to Rymus as a “person” (方; kata) in Japanese. This is rendered in the official simulcast English subtitles with the singular “they” pronoun. -
Being/Human (人間; ningen)
When Bulma asks if all the — what’s translated as “beings” in the official simulcast English subtitles — are technically descendants of the Majin who spread across the universes, she uses the standard Japanese word for “human” here: 人間 (ningen). This is the same ningen used in-universe to refer to effectively any sentient being, from Earthings to Saiyans to even Ginyu. During Dragon Ball Super, and in particular the “Future” Trunks arc, this word is often translated as “mortal” to differentiate the fact that Zamasu is looking down on a different type of “human” than his supposed divine self. - “Born” vs. Alternate Options
In response to Bulma’s question, Kaioshin explains that entities like Earthings and Saiyans came later after their universe’s creation: すべてはありませんたとえば、あなた達、地球人やサイヤ人は、宇宙誕生後に自然発生した人間です. This is rendered in the official simulcast English translation as: “For example, Earthlings and Saiyans were born after your universe was created.” The key word here is 誕生 (tanjō), which can mean “born” but also “emerge” or “come forth” and the like. In some ways it’s a distinction without a difference, but if you consider that a perfectly valid translation of the dialogue is that “…Saiyans and Earthlings developed later,” there is a slightly different through-line for alien races here.
Staff & Cast
- Atsuki Tani plays the kraken, having previously played Shito in Dragon Ball Super: Broly.
- Veteran voice actor from the 1990s onward Hiroki Takahashi (not to be confused with the singer of the same name who performed the original Dragon Ball opening theme) plays Tamagami Number One. Takahashi may be best known as the modern voice of Ryu from the Street Fighter video game series.
