The sudden hiatus of Toyotarō’s Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission within the pages of V-Jump two months ago seemed odd at the time, but the recent announcement of a three-chapter, introductory, manga-adaptation of the upcoming film, Dragon Ball Z: Revival of “F”, seemed to explain the time off!

The short manga begins in this weekend’s upcoming April 2015 issue of V-Jump, and while the magazine does not officially hit shelves until 21 February 2015, enterprising fans have already begun leaking photos and details from the issue.

One Japanese fan in particular has showcased three pages along with providing a short summary of the events within the first chapter (其之一). Needless to say, spoilers apply for this chapter, and in turn, the upcoming film!

Starts with flashbacks to Freeza getting beaten by Goku and Trunks

With Freeza down, his army is in shambles. So to reorganize, Sorbet (former staff officer of the third stellar region) takes control of the army for the time being. He heads for Earth together with Tagoma, a warrior on par with the likes of Zarbon and Dodoria.

They coerce the Dragon Balls from Pilaf and co., summon Shenlong, and wish to revive Freeza.

Freeza: “I won’t be satisfied until I’ve killed the two Super Saiyans who did this to me.”

Tagoma says something he shouldn’t, and gets killed for it.

Sorbet: “Son Goku has become strong enough to defeat Majin Boo.”

Freeza: “That’s more than I imagined. But I’m a prodigy, so if I bring out all of my dormant power through training, I’ll crush even the Saiyans in the blink of an eye.”

The evilest revenge begins. End chapter one.

“Toyotarō” is, in all likelihood, a second pen-name used by Dragon Ball AF fan manga author and illustrator “Toyble”. The introductory manga will run for three chapters in the April, May, and June 2015 issues of V-Jump in Japan. The story for Revival of “F”, opening nationwide in Japan 18 April 2015 in 2D and IMAX 3D, is being crafted by original manga author Akira Toriyama, who stated he is writing it, “…as though it were a continuation of the manga when it was in serialization,” and that while it will, “…of course be a continuation of the previous Battle of Gods,” he has also, “…deliberately increased the amount of action scenes by a good deal.” Tadayoshi Yamamuro, who worked for many years as character designer and animation supervisor on the Dragon Ball franchise, will serve as the film’s director and animation supervisor. Norihito Sumitomo will return from Battle of Gods and the Majin Boo arc of Dragon Ball Kai for musical composition duties. Momoiro Clover Z will contribute a song alongside Maximum the Hormone, whose “F” will be used as a “battle song” during the film. Revival of “F” is set to bring back Freeza and will also include two new characters (Sorbet and Tagoma), feature Beerus and Whis again from Battle of Gods, and much more.

While previously reported on the official website for AnimeJapan 2015 (the same event where the Majin Boo arc of Dragon Ball Kai was extensively promoted last year), the official website of the upcoming 2015 film, Dragon Ball Z: Revival of “F”, brings additional details about the Dragon Ball event happening this year.

The “Tenka’ichi Fan Meeting”, as it is being billed, will take place on the Green Stage from 3:25 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, 21 March 2015. Masako Nozawa (Son Goku, et al.), as well as other, yet-to-be-identified participants, will be on hand to answer questions, and a “participatory event” for fans is being teased in celebration of the new movie. Fans are invited to help “make new Dragon Ball history together”.

Attendance at the stage event is not guaranteed, requiring a special ticket with a “stage viewing lottery entry”. While the price is identical to regular attendance, these special tickets ended sales yesterday, 15 February 2015. Nevertheless, we at Kanzenshuu will be sure to bring you any news from the event as it becomes public.

By way of Glénat and Kazé, respectively, the “Film Anime Comic” or simply “Anime Comic” (or even more generically, “animanga”) and home video releases for the 2013 film, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, have finally hit France.

The animanga version — a comic taking screens from the film and arranging them manga-style with dialog bubbles — hit shelves 05 February 2015 for 9,60€. At 368 pages, it comes in just above the original Japanese release (360 pages). The book is available for order from Genki Store and Amazon France.

The home video release for the film dropped 11 February 2015 on both DVD (24,95€) and Blu-ray (29,95€):

In addition to containing the extended “Special Edition” of the film, bonus material includes a 19-minute behind-the-scenes featurette with the French voice cast. The film is available for order from Genki Store (DVD / Blu-ray) and Amazon France (DVD / Blu-ray).

Via Japanese blog TAG Hobby, we have caught our first glimpse of the “World Collectable Figure” (WCF) crane-game prize figures tying in to the upcoming 2015 movie, Dragon Ball Z: Revival of “F”:

The figures were previewed by Banpresto over the weekend at the 2015 Japan Amusement Expo (JAEPO) industry event, held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Three waves of figures were shown, including newcomers Sorbet and Tagoma, Gohan in his tracksuit, Freeza in his first and fourth forms, and Goku and Vegeta in their new outfits. However, a total of seven figures were absent, represented only by placeholder cards and denoted with letters rather than character names.

This situation echoes the unveiling of of WCF figurines for the 2013 movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. There, however, the early reveal of Pilaf provided the first appearance of a character that had not yet been formally revealed for the film. This time out, Banpresto have studiously avoided giving away any characters or forms not yet revealed. We may probably reasonably expect at least Beerus and Whis, Bulma, and Kuririn in his police uniform, but who or what the rest may represent (and indeed, whether there might be a fourth wave of figures, as with Battle of Gods) remains unknown at this time. The current WCF batch is from Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, which will be followed in March by a second wave from the Boo arc of Dragon Ball Kai.

The official website of the upcoming 2015 movie, Dragon Ball Z: Revival of “F”, has announced that the film will be screened in “4DX” in select venues across Japan.

4DX is a proprietary system from South Korean company CJ 4DPLEX (a subsidiary of the CJ Corporation conglomerate), which uses technologies embedded in moviegoers seats to provide an additional element of physical sensation on top of sight and sound. These include seat motion, air jets, spraying mist, scents, fog, and more.

Included with the announcement is a list of 10 (nine currently operational) venues which will be providing the 4DX movie experience. The vast majority are in the Kanto and Chubu regions, with one additional location each in Hiroshima and Fukuoka.

The official website for the upcoming 2015 film, Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F, recently announced a special encore screening of the 2013 movie, Battle of Gods, to mark the upcoming home release of the “Special Edition” aired on Fuji TV last year.

There will be a single screening at a single venue, Shinjuku Toei 1, on 21 February 2015 (this coming Saturday), which will be preceded by a “talk event” featuring Masako Nozawa (Son Goku, et al.), Ryūsei Nakao (Freeza), and model/TV personality Risa Yoshiki. Although technically a Battle of Gods-themed event, Nakao’s presence virtually ensures that the conversation will turn to the new movie in some capacity.

Tickets went on sale 12 February 2015 for ¥1,200 each. The fine print notes that the media will be covering the event, so attendees may end up being photographed or filmed. In a somewhat convoluted twist, the version of the film screened will be the original theatrical cut, rather than the “Special Edition” being promoted.

The “special edition” of Battle of Gods will be released to Blu-ray and DVD in Japan 12 March 2015. Its release in Japan comes later than for the English-speaking market, where it went on sale in North America and the U.K. last year through FUNimation.

Both the original soundtrack album and single for the theme song of the 2015 movie, Dragon Ball Z: Revival of “F”, have been announced via King Records in Japan.

The as-yet untitled single for the equally-untitled theme song, which will be performed by Momoiro Clover Z, will be released 29 April 2015 in Japan and will come in two versions: a standard edition on CD containing three songs and their respective karaoke versions (KICM-1594; ¥1157 + tax; ¥1250 total), while one will also include a Blu-ray featuring the music video for the movie’s theme (KIZM-345~6; ¥1713 + tax; ¥1850 total).

The movie’s original soundtrack (KICA-3241; ¥2667 + tax; ¥2880 total) will drop 08 May 2015 in Japan and will contain a tentative 40 background music tracks composed by Norihito Sumitomo, along with a “movie-size” version of the theme song by Momoiro Clover Z. Unfortunately, the soundtrack’s release after the movie is already in theaters means that we may not be able to use it to divine anything about the story beforehand unless we receive an early tracklisting; the full tracklisting for the Battle of Gods original soundtrack hit roughly a month ahead of the film, allowing for all sorts of speculation.
