Episode Synopsis
Piccolo steals the unconscious Gohan from Bulma and the others, and takes him off to train in preparation of the Saiyan’s arrival. God has a plan as well, and takes the dead Goku to see Enma-daiō. God says that before Goku will be brought back to life with the Dragon Balls, he will train under Kaiō, who stands at the peak of all the gods in the universe! After receiving permission from Enma-daiō to meet Kaiō, Goku begins running along the Serpent Road, said to be as long as a million kilometers. Elsewhere, Kuririn visits Goku’s house, but is too uncomfortable to tell Chi-Chi and Gyūmaō about Goku and Gohan. Meanwhile, upon testing out Gohan’s dormant power, Piccolo tells Gohan to strengthen himself so as to be able to draw that power out.

Episode Notes
- The next episode title was not originally typed in the broadcast episode’s next episode preview, but was later added for the home video release.
- While the original broadcast of this episode featured Kenji Yamamoto’s musical score, the background music in all subsequent re-airings have been replaced by Shunsuke Kikuchi’s original musical score from Dragon Ball Z due to allegations of musical infringement. The credits below reflect those from the original broadcast in which Kenji Yamamoto is credited as the series’ musical composer, although Shunsuke Kikuchi is credited as such in all subsequent re-airings and home video releases featuring his replacement score.
Re-animated Scene Gallery
This collection compiles all re-animated scenes featured in this episode’s original broadcast, listed in order of appearance. Each re-animated scene will be presented with a screen shot from the original Dragon Ball Z TV series (left) and another taken from the Dragon Ball Kai TV broadcast (right). In Japan, Dragon Ball Kai was broadcast in widescreen, so these comparisons will maintain this proper aspect ratio. All original comparison screen shots were taken from the Japanese Dragon Boxes and maintain their proper 4:3 aspect ratios. It should be noted that some of these re-animated scenes only appear in the widescreen presentation of the series and were possibly omitted from fullscreen releases, both domestically and internationally.
