Episode Summary
A dark, purple cloud approaches Earth from space, leaving a crater on impact. Across the planet, various warriors react: Tenshinhan, Chiaotzu, Kuririn, Pu’er, the Turtle Hermit, Yamcha, Goten, and Trunks.
A menacing face laughs, and says it is time to eat.
Goku appears to have been sleeping for a while, keeping everyone waiting — their last battle at the tournament was a great one! Jiren and Hit appear to have already left, as has the “other” Goku and the rest of the group. Chronoa explains that the other Goku has taken off again with the rest of the group to continue their patrolling; it’s only Trunks here that stuck around. Gohan notes that Yamcha appears to have suffered some sort of shock and already traveled back, as well. Trunks says the battle between his two fathers was also amazing, and he wants to become even stronger! Chronoa encourages everyone to return to Earth from the same space-time as before. As she opens the scroll, Chronoa reacts in horror: there is no more Earth! Goku wonders if Kaiō is still there; they should go to his planet.
Goku and the others arrive at Kaiō’s and it at least seems that the planet itself is still there… but Goku can’t sense Kaiō’s ki. Trunks can sense something else there, however. A three-eyed monster walks out of Kaiō’s house, saying he’s full. Goku asks what this guy is doing here, but Chronoa seems to know him: it’s Majin Ozotto! The monster wonders if the Super Space-Time Tournament has ended, but Goku presses on, asking where Kaiō is. Ozotto feigns ignorance, asking if that’s the guy who was here with the bug and the monkey; he ate him. Along with the Earth itself, it really was a fantastic meal! That said, he’s quite busy “god-hunting” right now; that God on Earth, the Namekian, was also quite tasty. Trunks and Vegeta launch questions at Ozotto, turning Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue; Goku also turns Blue. Ozotto looks around, calling out Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Trunks, and the Kaiōshin of Time by name. Ozotto rushes in at Chronoa, but Goku stops him in his tracks. Ozotto teleports away, punching Piccolo in the stomach. Ozotto says that Piccolo was previously a God, so he’s interested in this power. Ozotto surrounds himself and Piccolo with a big ball of goop, and emerges intact… without Piccolo. Gohan charges up in anger and flies in, but is immediately grabbed at the neck by Ozotto’s tail. Ozotto apologies for not having the time to deal with them right now, but he is impressed with these Saiyans; they can really increase their strength and reach incredible battle powers. Ozotto surrounds himself and Gohan with the same goop as before; Gohan screams, and is gone.
Vegeta fires a Gyallic-Hō, and Goku follows up with a series of punches. Trunks fires from the sidelines as well, and the trio take turns attacking up close. Ozotto tanks every single attack, praising the group of their power. Goku grabs Ozotto’s tail and swings him around, which breaks the tail off from the monster. Vegeta calls for him to spit out Gohan and the others, but Ozotto wonders in return why exactly they think they are suddenly winning; they cannot defeat him, no matter how hard they try. Ozotto’s tail pieces start to shake and return back to his body as he explains that he ate the Earth, and there was another Majin in particular there who could regenerate even after getting turned to pieces. Isn’t this ability incredible? Vegeta recognizes his as being from Boo, when suddenly a familiar duo of voices speaks to them from above, asking if they should make this situation even more hopeless. Standing atop Kaiō’s house is 17 and 18, but when they next speak, it is with Ozotto’s voice; furthermore, when he takes this kind of shape, they cannot detect any ki from him. Ozotto has the ability to transform into the various people he has absorbed. 17 and 18 de-goop into two more Ozotto, as the monster explains that they are all just parts divided off from his body. The parts then all merge back together, as Goku notes that his power just keeps increasing.
Chronoa calls for everyone to escape, raising the Scroll of Time above her head; its light envelops all four of them, who disappear from Kaiō’s planet, leaving only Ozotto behind. Ozotto says the Kaiōshin of Time is a bit annoying, but actually fairly interesting.
Episode Notes
Characters
-
Ozotto originally debuted as the shape-shifting final boss character in the 1994 arcade game Dragon Ball Z: V.R.V.S., developed by Sega, in conjunction with that year’s “Jump Multi(Media) World” event. Beyond his name as “Majin Ozotto” (translated as “Ozotto the Super Monster” in the game itself), no actual backstory for the character is given.
Ozotto was designed for the game by Akira Toriyama himself — his design set included a four-armed transformation, though this form was not used in the original game.
The character fell into relative-obscurity following his original release, with a planned appearance in the 1996 PlayStation and Saturn game Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu (“The Great Dragon Ball Legend”) unfortunately scrapped.
Ozotto returned 24 years later within the Super Dragon Ball Heroes empire of video games, anime, and comics. Ozotto makes a small appearance at the end of arcade game’s “Universe Mission 3” update special video, kicking off his ongoing appearances in the game franchise. Though Ozotto went unused in the promotional anime until here in the Meteor Mission series (as opposed to the various manga series by Yoshitaka Nagayama, where he made regular appearances), he did make a small cameo on one of Fu’s monitors in the promotional anime’s debut episode:
Manga vs. Anime Differences
-
Though the rough underlying story beats are largely the same between the two media, the Meteor Mission! manga series by Yoshitaka Nagayama includes a wealth of additional details and character appearances beyond what is seen here in the promotional anime. Of note, Ozotto initially disguises himself as Kaiō in the manga. Across the two chapters that correspond to this episode’s events, Ozotto also takes on the forms of #13, #14, and #15 from Dragon Ball Z movie 7, in addition to #17 and #18 as seen here in the promotional anime. Each of these fights conclude with attacks that are themselves homages to previous material.
Translation & Language
- Goku’s group refers to the tournament they just returned from, while Ozotto refers to it directly by name as the “Super Space-Time Tournament” (超時空トーナメント; chō jikū tōnamento); this tournament occurred during the previous story arc.
- Ozotto is currently on a “god hunting” (神狩り; kami kari) mission. So far, this at least includes Dende on Earth, and North Kaiō.
- While fighting against the group, Ozotto makes a direct reference to the increasing strength and specifically “battle power” (戦闘力; sentō-ryoku) of the Saiyans.
- Chronoa uses the power of the “Scroll of Time” (時の巻物; toki no makimono) in her hands to take everyone away from Ozotto.
Staff & Cast Notes
- Masaki Terasoma makes his debut here as Majin Ozotto. Though Ozotto has appeared throughout the various Super Dragon Ball Heroes manga series by Yoshitaka Nagayama along the way, this is Ozotto’s first voiced performance in the promotional anime.
