Once upon a time, you could sarcastically respond to a simple or obvious question with, “Is the sky blue?” Nowadays, red is blue, and apparently purple is also blue. What is a Dragon Ball fan supposed to believe?! Join us for yet another podcast discussion about hair color!

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0407! Mike and Meri discuss the “change” of Trunks’ hair color from lavender to blue for the “Dragon Ball Super” TV series. What has Akira Toriyama said about these kinds of changes in the past, and what circumstances might have led to this situation? Is this lack of consistency even a worthwhile conversation to have, or is it yet another overblown production nugget?

Japanese band Batten Shōjo-Tai (“X-Mark Girl Squad”, stylized as “Batten Showjo Tai”) has announced that their upcoming single “Yoka-Yoka Dance” (“Easy-Going Dance”) will take over as the fifth ending theme song for the Dragon Ball Super TV series beginning in July.

batten_shojo_tai_splash

According to the group’s official website, “Yoka-Yoka Dance” will begin airing in July 2016 with a CD single release following 14 September 2016.

The song was written by Takemasa Ono of KEYTALK, who performed the series’ second closing theme, “Starring Star“. Additionally, Narasaki (known as the producer of Momoiro Clover Z, who contributed “Pledge of ‘Z’ as the closing theme for the 2015 theatrical film Resurrection ‘F’) was involved in the editing and production of the new song.

Takemasa Ono provided a comment about the song alongside its announcement:

It’s a song about how even when things are rough, you can smile and overcome it! I’ll be glad if it gets people excited during live concerts! By the way, I wrote it while dancing (^O^) Yoka-Yoka Dance! Heh!!!

Batten Shōjo-Tai was formed in June 2015 by Star Dust Promotion Fukuoka. The idol group’s members average 14 years of age. The group aims… “to be popular not only in Fukuoka but also all of Kyushu and the entire country.” The group’s major debut was with the song “Osshoi!” from Victor Entertainment Colorful Records in April 2016.

CD singles for the show’s first four ending themes — “Hello Hello Hello” by Good Morning America, “Starring Star” by KEYTALK, “Light Pink” by LACCO TOWER, and “Forever Dreaming” by Czecho no Republic — have been released. A CD single for the show’s opening theme — “Chōzetsu ☆ Dynamic!” by Kazuya Yoshii — was released 07 October 2015.

Thanks to @nemurenatta for the clarification on “Osshio!”, previously reported incorrectly as a debut album rather than individual song and CD single.

The stage show closed with a final message from author Akira Toriyama (pulled from his larger Super Dragon Ball Heroes quote):

Bandai has announced Super Dragon Ball Heroes, an update to the successful card-based arcade game in Japan, scheduled to launch in autumn 2016.

sdbh_main_splash

The basics of Dragon Ball Heroes will remain unchanged, with the player placing cards on the panel and moving them around to control the characters on-screen; the number of cards used in battle will increase from five to seven, however. The monitor will be 32 inches (140% larger than the old one) to facilitate a “more dynamic” battle. The flat panel is also now a touch-panel monitor, allowing for special “touch actions” that players can activate. All previously-released Dragon Ball Heroes cards will be compatible with the new machine. The game will also introduce “Virtual Cards” that affect battle conditions, which will only exist as digital data (as opposed to the standard physical cards), but can be controlled alike all the same.

Bandai is looking to appeal to new and old fans alike, with a specific target demographic of boys aged nine to twelve years old. The game will be placed in arcades, stores, amusement parks, etc. around Japan, and will be shown off at the company’s booth at “International Tokyo Toy Show 2016” from 09 June 2016 to 12 June 2016.

Original manga author Akira Toriyama provided a special quote in honor of the upcoming game launch:

sdbh_toriyama-quote

Thanks for always playing Dragon Ball Heroes! As the original author, I was really happy to hear last year how it was entering its fifth year and still doing better than ever. Just like the Saiyans, it’s constantly evolving; from now on, please enjoy Super Dragon Ball Heroes!!

Following several prior patches, Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butōden on the Nintendo 3DS received a new patch today (08 April 2016) in Japan, bringing it up to Version 1.5.0.

The update adds one new playable background stage: Uchū’ichi Budōkai (“Number-One-In-The-Universe Martial Arts Tournament”), the stadium from the Universe 6 vs. Universe 7 tournament in the Dragon Ball Super TV series. The patch also adds three new Z-Assist characters, rounding out the Universe 6 team, also from Dragon Ball Super: Magetta, Cabba, and Hit.

Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butōden launched in Japan 11 June 2015. First-press copies of the game come packed with bonus content, including a downloadable version of the Super Famicom game Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden 2 (previously included as a part of the J-Legend Retsuden compilation game; albeit now with replacement music). Arc System Works developed the game for Bandai Namco. The developer previously worked on the Bukū… / Supersonic Warriors games on the Nintendo GameBoy Advance and DS.

The game was released in Europe 16 October 2015, in North and Latin America 20 October 2015, and in Brazil 23 October 2015. A free demo is also available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. The international edition of the game received a 1.1 patch in April, roughly bringing it in line with the Japanese version’s 1.4 patch.
